I had the sheath for my xs and didn’t think the grip was that great at all.

have they improved it for the 12 or was I just expecting too much after reading it get recommended by every man and his dog on this forum?

I think the texture is more raised this year and a bit grippier than previous years. It’s still not a tacky case. So, when your hands get dry, you won’t have as much grip. That’s just the trade off. The plus side is that it does not stick to your pockets or lint.

Hmm, I was wondering, since I was reading everywhere that it was grippy. I love the form factor and how slim it is. the texture on my case seems pretty worn down. It was great when I took it out of the box, but when I actually started using it more it was a little slippery. I emailed support so let’s see if they have can swap it out. No response yet though.

Probably more likely that your hands became dryer or something from when you first got it. That’s definitely something that you notice with cases that depend on texture for grip. Dry hands don’t grip to them as well.

thanks for this! And with COVID and all the hand washing that doesn’t help either, lol

No problem. You’re right. Hand washing constantly will absolutely have an impact on how much grip you have on the case.

I wish there was a perfect solution, but there isn’t. It’s like glass. You get shatter resistance or scratch resistance, but physics won’t give you both. You either get a case that sticks to your pockets AND hand, or you get one that comes out of your pocket easily BUT also slips out of your hand easier. Texture is the best in-between, but it’s not perfect.

I think through details a lot. It’s hard for me to accept that everything has trade-offs, but it’s true.

Are these cases fairly rigid or do they flex much on the sides to allow dust and bits down? I like the look of these cases from the pics, I think they are the nicest looking I’ve seen so far.

Very true. Have you noticed it getting grippier over time or does it pretty much stay the same?

If you’re asking another the sheath, it fits like a glove. There’s no way much of anything would get in it. Over time, very small amounts of dust can get in a little, but every case I’ve ever had does this.

The early batches of the sheath did have fit defects, which made the sides loose. They’ve since fixed it, and I’m waiting on a replacement. Their customer service is great.

Going from your post in the other thread re dropping and your work environment i would imagine you would be looking at a OB or similar.
It's a good question though, they say its 6ft drop proof but I've never seen any real life test that get done. If you pull at the sides they will come away a bit but in normal use they dont, even the OB symmetry does that, has a firm fit but not tight that its hard to get on and off, just right, doubt it would come off in a drop, has a good fit all around and good grip, slim too.
I don't work in a dusty job but cant imagine stuff getting in.
They don't get lint on them, would be easy to clean with water, but they don't really show any marks etc.
It's a maintenance free case and will stay the same down the track like the OB Symmetry.
Hope that helps :)

I agree. I got three of them. Two of them were perfect, one was a little off but not too bad. I checked in with them again, they said the replacements should be in by Friday. Really impressed by how they're owning up and fixing the problem so fast. I'm used to the opposite experience with most customer service (even from Apple at times) these days.

I must of got the new batch here in Australia, my black is perfect.

Ordered a grey Sheath to try on my 12 Pro with my corner issues with the leather cases I am buying I’m prepping to give up on them.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m tempted to try one. Just need to decide whether to get the black or navy blue to go with my blue iPhone 12.

Thanks too, i’ll have a bit more of a look into the range and try one, cheers.

I just got a grey one in for the PB max. No phone yet but here’s a comparison of my iPhone X sheath cases with a lot of miles!

Navy, red, and the new grey.
IMO navy was darker than I wanted. Used it for a year and then got the red. Wish there was a blue in between the navy and the new electric blue. Or even a red case.

Got my Sheath.

It's the first time I have had one since my iPhone 7 and I don't like it. It's so grainy compared to how they used to be, almost borderline rough? The sides don't find snug on the phone either; the Apple leather case fit a lot better. £28.00 for these cases used to be well worth it, not anymore IMO.

Also it's quite a bit chunkier than the leather case.

So it's going back.
