I'm not sure how to respond, you're giving them 6 more years to get things right, seems like an extremely low assessment of what they could do, conversely if they need 6 more years then do you really want to spend 3,000 to 4,000 on a product from them that took so long to get it right?

Think about it this way, their keyboards have been failing since 2015, and its now 2019, The thermal performance of the 2018 MBPs is inadequate, and I'm presuming that the 2019 will be just as bad. Owners of the 2016 have to contend with Flexgate, I'm not sure of 2017 is in the same situation. They've struggled to fix the T2 chip, staingate and other gates.

my opinion of apple is they've chosen form over function, and while the laptops look great, Apple has been cutting corners and making poor design choices when it comes for function (like cooling)

I just popped a 512GB SSSD into my laptop, my battery can easily be replaced, if I do need a keyboard, that can be done without getting a new top case. Apple has chosen a path of disposable products, and it limits the consumer.

My tasks are not your tasks, but when I work either in a VM, PS, LR, and various other tasks, my i7 stays very cool. I don't think you need a thick heavy mobile workstation, you just need something that has proper thermal designs and many windows machines already have that. Like I said however my idea of pushing a machine may not be yours and YMMV
[doublepost=1558606420][/doublepost]Let me say its not all rainbows and unicorns in the Pc/windows world but I do believe having a laptop that has proper cooling, an awesome keyboard, does not use proprietary chips is a huge plus. On the PC side, we have issues, headaches and head scratchers but I think all of the issues I've gotten have been minor and fall into the realm of quarks

Edited for clarity

I think that the question is: how long am I prepared to wait. Not that I expect them to take that long.

I agree with you on your comments about their direction. They are not making devices that professionals that need high, sustained performance, need and there are better options, OS notwithstanding) for those that need sustained, high-performance.

I do, apparently. This is on the latest generation with the HDR screen... the bezel is a disposable sticker. There are no clips. I removed it after the tech left and re-placed it because he didn't get it lined up properly, one side was overlapping lid.

I ordered a couple of extras just in case the adhesive fails and I need to re-apply a new one. They are pretty cheap / OEM part from China. The Lenovo part number is 01YR448. here's a link:
My bad. Thought I saw most of them, except for the last generation of course o_O. Thanks, good to know ;)

I have the X1 Carbon/G6, and the trackpad is no where close to the MBP or MBA IMHO. It's too small, and the drivers are only so-so with regards to responsiveness and accuracy. I do like the laptop, and overall pleased even though it's Windows 10 :p I have a dual boot w/ Pop OS and it's not too bad.

Thanks for reaffirming my suspicions. ;)
I'd exclusively be running some variant of Linux on it, I take it PopOS is a recent flavor - I see it's from System76 who also happen to make laptops that are said to be pretty cool.

Do you have tap-to-click and multi finger gestures available under Linux?

Tap to click works well. Out of the box multi gestures aren't available, but I've been reading that there's some kind of pkg that can be added to give it that functionality. Then I guess there's a version of Wayland, that sits between the OS and Window Manager. I haven't done that yet, because I'm no Linux expert, and I've read if you do it wrong it pretty much hoses the OS...lol.

Agree on the trackpad ... though the hardware seems solid said:
I had the preview of the new edge, and I like it as well. It has the swipe gestures built in, and it scrolls well. But it was a tad buggy, so I'll wait. I'm hopeful.

well I guess 2019 aint the year of re-designs haha

Apple seems well aware of failure rates extending the warranty on the keyboards and flex cable, and making more strides to make it less failure prone, but they are also well aware many people simply don't like the keyboard, prone to failure-ness aside.

I wonder if next year will be the year they add more key travel / re-think things. MBP seems ripe for a total overhaul, even 3 years out. Plus laptop space is moving quick again, with lots of nice laptops on the market. Apple can't rest on their laurels forever... but will they?

Abandoning the non touch bar is a total disgrace too and forcing people into the Touch Bar that want modern internals

as of now they still aren't getting my money on another laptop but I have I think until may 2021 on keyboard and flex cable now, instead of December 2019 or something like that. Buying more time

I know what I would get into, I recently used Linux on my desktop at home for some weeks when my mac was out for repair (twice).
I absolutely loved how fast and snappy everything felt, and the native docker support is a huge plus.

But it's also Linux, and I'm a noob. I would loose so much time fiddling around with it, probably destroy my installation in the process multiple times. The possibility to use the xcode ios emulator would be a pretty big loss, too. I don't develop ios apps, but use the emulator for ios safari debugging.

Here is my favorite Linux distro and this company will provide you with support and a stable distro of KDM Neon and Plasma. You may not have heard of it before, but it is very nice: https://neon.kde.org/

I'm using Mac since 2008 and Windows + Linux since forever. I had the black macbook, imac 2008 and rMBP 15" 2013 fully loaded : 16gb, 512gb SSD, i7 and dual GPU.

I also have 2 servers, and main PC is 32gb with i7, all SSD and have dual 4k screens.

Last year I was not attracted by the price of Macbook so I checked the thinkpad laptops. I ended up with a t580 : 32gb ram, 2tb ssd, 4k screen, sd card, dual video cards, hello-compatible camera and fingerprint.
It was a very nice deal, but in the end, it's still no mac.

Why Windows still sucks
- my rmbp 2013 still has a superior battery life (~8h) than my 8 months old thinkpad (which have dual batteries which last at it's best ~6h with light tasks).

- the wallpapers are not processed via the color calibration module. So even if my monitors are calibrated, my wide gamut monitors images don't match the standard sRGB ones. If I open Photoshop on my wide gamut and load the same wallpaper, the colors will appear correctly since the color profile is loaded from the image. Windows background engine's bypass the profile. If I plug the same 2 monitors on my mac, it's all good since ICM is integrated at it's core.

- privacy: none. Even if you disable everything via the gui, so still have to use scripts to turn off almost everything. When you think you have caught everything, well you don't. Text that you type is any application is tracked.

https://news.softpedia.com/news/win...ivate-in-google-chrome-incognito-525862.shtml

- even nvidia drivers add telemetry by default, that you have to delete the service every time you update your drivers.

- if you encrypt your drive, your private key is automatically sent to your onedrive bucket which they have access.
Encryption is weaker than Mac's T2 chip. They had major flaws with it

- crapware by default, games and random app are pushed to your start menu every now and then. I have a 5000 lines powershell script to handle privacy setting and crap but I still got new ones with this week 1903 update. Every uninstalled crap, came back.

there's plenty more to say.. the OS itself is real nice, but you're the product, they spy, impose crap.

The grass may look greenier but it was planted on a big turd.

This isn't really true. The only information they gather is telemetry to see how Windows is running. If you use Cortana then she looks through things to set reminders and such. You don't have to use her. The telemetry has no personal information attached to it. You are not a product for Microsoft. Do you use Google? Yes you are a product for them. I don't really get all the hyperbole. Windows is on millions and millions of computers. Do you honestly think they are sitting around spying on individuals?

As for OneDrive they are not looking through your personal files such as Google does (Google admits in the EULA that any information on their drive is also their property to use as they see fit.) Microsoft only has scanners that will pick up illegal material such as child porn. That is all. You need to chill. The fact is everyone to include Apple has means to look at what you have on their services. Where do you think all the suggestions from the music service come from? They are watching to see what you listen to. When I go to the Mac or IOS store they have suggestions based on things I have purchased.

So ... wrapping this up. I don't think a "perfect" laptop exists anymore... I felt like we were getting pretty close with the 2015 MacBook models, then, well ... 2016-2018 happened. Windows machines are seemingly getting a bit better but still have their issues with OS and hardware quality.

I'm going to stick with the Lenovo for the time being until the next MacBook redesign... and my days of Mac may be limited if ARM is the future, as I need a Bootcamp / Windows option for work and some mild gaming. Time will tell I suppose ...

I'm bailing ... I just can't do it. I've used the X1C exclusively for the last 4 days ... too many compromises, way more than my 2018 13" rMBP.

I opened up the MacBook today to transfer some files, ended up using it the rest of the day and just constantly asked myself why I was doing this.

So... X1C will go up for sale for a loss... sort of an expensive experiment I suppose. I purchased from B&H so can't return it. Overall the X1C is a good piece of hardware. However, for me and my uses, I simply can't justify all of the compromises with Windows. Windows is getting better, but still not good enough to prevent me from yelling at it. I need a computer that works for me, not against me.

I can deal with keyboard issues in the Mac, especially knowing that it's completely covered now. Hoping T2 crashes (1-2 times per week for me) will be completely resolved soon with a software update.

The main things I need fixed in Windows:
  • Color Profiles. They really should just remove it at this point, it's completely broken. DisplayCAL has a "feature" that constantly applies the correct profile over and over, but you can still see the flicker across all monitors every few seconds depending on activity. Unacceptable.
  • Precision Touchpad consistency across the system/all apps, especially with two-finger scrolling. Need more settings, and they need to be honored throughout the entire system and all apps.
  • Lots of little things that add up to a lot of time, especially during initial setup... googling fixes/workarounds, registry hacks, etc.
  • Microsoft/Windows OEM native, seamless backup and full system restore solution
I may try again in the future ... especially if the first two items are fixed/confirmed. I probably will. I'm a gadget nerd.

Yeah I saw that Incognito mode on Chrome for Windows was being criticized as not being very private. However if you are using Google while in incognito mode on the Mac, your searches are still being logged by Google. So not much of a difference. Face it there is NO privacy online anymore.

Well good luck. We must all use what works best for us. For me that is Windows, thought I also enjoy the others. But sometimes I find myself frustrated with MacOS. For example I hook up my iPad on occasion to draw with. The first time I did it, MacOS on it's own without asking me set it up as an extended desktop. I wasn't sure that I wanted that, so I hunted down the setting and changed it to mirror the desktop. After awhile, I thought "No, maybe I prefer the extended mode...." It was gone. I spent over an half hour, thinking I was losing my mind because I was sure of where I had found the setting. Turns out MacOS took away the setting because it decided that I didn't need it anymore in mirror mode.… Windows never does that! You can find different settings in different places, but Windows doesn't try and decided what you can or can't do. Or need or don't need.

So I am in permeant mirror mode. Oh well. What I have learned is that it pays to use the systems as they are. Using Windows and trying to make it act like a Mac and Vice Versa never works, and I suspect that is what you did. You have to be open for the adventure. Hope you get a good price for your Lenovo.

I understand all to well. However, I can't stand Apple's (Cook's) disgusting hypocrisy, their too obvious attempts to rip off customers wherever they can by locking everything down while asking ridiculously inflated prices for standard components.
I refuse to support behaviour like this.
Damn predicament...

I am abandoning the ship due to security flaws of Intel and Apple admitting 40% fall in performance with later mitigations applied for intel flawed chips.

I woild return when Arm based macbook comes.
till then would use current 2013 late macbook pro for non banking and casual use .

I am planning to throw my current i5 4690k desktop out and pit ryzen 3 when it comes .
Millions of users, and companies with vast resources and you think you're a target?

You’re still regularly using a 9 year old computer? That’s impressive. Of course it will be slow, but that’s quite the lifespan.

actually the cover is falling off (need new screws) the o-w keys dont work (cat knocked air off table) and the chord need to be perpendicular with venus to charge/work. beside the extreme stubbornness of the company who made the laptop, everything runs smoothly until adobe starts to delete their old programs.

I was just gonna say…

Pull out an original iPad (also 9 years old) and see how that experience goes.
One won’t have any hair left to pull out by the end of it
i smashed my 2010 ipod touch hours ago, i feel sooooo much better!

It’s not about targeting.
When I pay top rate for tech,I expect quality and not some crackpot loosing 40% performance with one available mitigation.
While AMD has been without those same vulnerabilities, what does that indicate

Either intel lied and kept vulnerabilities to get more performance?

Or they doing something else at expense of my dollar.

No of course not, but many long term apple fans are tired of over paying for a class of a machine that has many problems. Why spend 3k on a machine that apple made an apology for, when you can buy a faster, more durable machine for around 1,000 less.

As I see it, apple used to provide a great design, with a well made laptop that ran an OS that is written for the hardware. The benefits are a well running smooth computing experience. I'm not seeing much improvements on software side, I see a high number of people complaining about bugs and issues with every annual release of the OS. (I know MS has had their share of problems with the bi-annual release). On the hardware, with the risk of beating a dead horse, the keyboard, flexgate, staingate, etc, etc. Are these the qualities and experiences you expect when buying a premium product? For me its not.

I've been quite pleased with how solid the Thinkpad has been, its keyboard has been joy to use and windows has been rock solid. There are things I miss with with macOS but not at the price that apple is charging.

Let me just add, I totally understand my opinion is unpopular and in the minority here as its an apple fan sight. I'm not looking to convince anyone, rather just post about my experiences, choices, and opinions.

I appreciate your posts for and against Macs, and/or Windows. You always have something balanced to say and worth reading. Please keep posting your thoughts. As someone who is trying to switch away from Apple it helps to read posts like yours. Alas, I am one of those long term Apple fans who are tired of overpaying for a machine that has many problems inside and out. I am currently challenged with Windows, but want to make the move and I appreciate the common sense, support and suggestions you provide.

I wish it didn't have to be this way. I am not a fan of hating on Apple, but I've been burned way too many times now to stick around. Once I can psychologically make that break and understand that no machine will be perfect, I'll be fine.

as someone who has tried to pull away to save money with 3 computers in our studio
my history I am 55 so used computers since HS apple ][e included :) mainframes and so on was the 2nd best hacker at my college so for sure a tech head :)

I had a mac when they first came out stuck with em till some mid point I felt they were behind and went to PC when OS X came out I switched back but I still had windows for gaming and HTPC etc.. my wife used macs before OS X she used to be the head graphic designer for Kapalua on Maui so was doing about 400 jobs a year
our studio is small we still manage a lot of clients and the column view customizable views and tagging are a huge thing to us if you never use color tagging or the column view or customize the side bar or use quick preview this below might not matter :)

so recently tried another PC and built up quite a nice one and wanted to give it a solid try again the things that I found to be a issue ( I kinda knew where their but gave it 6 months to see if I could get used to what is missing or not available)

drivers and updating all over the place from many sources ? just a pain to do especially with multiple machines
the worst color management or lack of really and in my line photography and my wifes graphic design this is a pain and as long as you only work out of adobe its workable but stepping out you get to much variance
the file explorer on windows for me is horrible the lack of column view to view client folder and contents gets old to move things manage things also the lack of custom tagging mac has in both color and name is lacking on PC (some win guy will come in and say NO it can do it and sure for only a couple file types and only tagging then no real way to use the tags and to get those tags is multiple windows and clicks and so on
you are left with a ton of junk in the left view of the explorer also with no way to get rid of it and no way to truly customize it ! again win folk will say yes you can but their view of customizing is severely limited
and no smart preview there is a program you can get but it is lacking and slow and just horrid compared
again this is coming from someone that does have both and uses both and the options are not even available in windows ! and the one quick preview that is well acts nothing like the OS X one built in

little things like saving out files not always seeing all files but only the file type you are saving gets old in some programs etc..

I think the file explorer vs the finder is a bit like a soar throat and then realizing how much you swallow during the day and realizing how much you use it all the time

really its just the whole user experience and really things have not changed since NT or win 98 everything takes many windows and tabs and so on

huge lack of customizing easily again in both the finder and the interface !

even super simple things like the start menu on windows is horrid its in multiple folders and even then near impossible to truly customize etc..

lots of people use it that is for sure but lots eat at McDonalds knowing its garbage for your body so those who say more use it ? that does not make it good just makes it the most popular what is the most popular car on the road ? does that make it the best and the best for your use ?

so yeah you can get used to anything and use it but do you enjoy it does it get old does it really work or is it just missing and you get used to it and do no care you are missing or you never used those things so you won't miss them :)

I keep a PC in the house so my kids learn both really solid cause I do think its good for kids and I can do that with boot camp but building maintaining a dedicated PC is good for them to learn

I love the best tech more then anyone company and I still think apple is not as good as it was but still better then others

also note on the laptops
the screen on the macs is the top along with the dell XPS 15 $400 or so option (not the 2n1) and the X1 again $$$ option and the HP dream color and again $$$ option
all the rest or those base ones they come with are not nearly as good when it comes to accuracy so build up the same spec of those to compare pricing !!! cause the screen is the thing we look at for creatives its HUGE to be accurate if its for general then yes you can get many less priced comparisons when comparing the 15 inch but then you have the non pro apple way less money and not as good screens as the mac pro models one reason they cost less I reckon :) and not to much more then PC options ? so keep that in mind when looking !!!
also the track pads this is where PCs fall apart any honest review of any PC always compares the trackpads to almost as good as a mac hahahah yeah sure it is :)

the keyboard thing is a issue with some apple owners (that is taken care of) but the trackpad is a issue with ALL PC owners not being as good and some love the apple keyboard and at least they do take care of it if iit has the sticking issue

yeah apple has faults but when ONE shows up people just freak and like to point not realizing every company has issues no company is perfect its more how they take care of the customer how easy it is etc..

I'm genuinely curious how you manage that. I was trying to get into tagging but just couldn't make it work. Let's say I have 100 customers and from each I have 10 dated backups. Now I want to find the last backup I saved from customer A I think it was sometime in 2008. With folders I go to projects->product name->customerA->backup and see what's in it. As it happens the last one was actually from August 2009. Takes me maybe 10 seconds. With labels I would have to remember exact tag name out of 1000, or have some cross reference file containing label names, and since I didn't even remember what year it was it was never going to happen. I could create additional tag "last backup" or something to the last file at the moment of save, and remove the same from the previous one, but that's again something I'm very likely to forget and additional work - on top of assigning other tags. I'm just curious what system do you have. I can remember very well where I saved the data, the location of it, but there is no way I'm going to remember multiple tags assigned to a single file that would allow me to identify it.

I see people frequently bringing up the superiority of finder over windows explorer, and how the windows one is a dealbreaker, but I just don't use either of them, like at all. I'm so used to dual pane file managers that I can't live without them, on Windows - Total Commander, on MacOS/Linux/Unix - Midnight Commander. Total Commander is just the single most useful piece of software I've ever worked with, unfortunately available only on Windows, I actually have it in Parallels VM and use to manage my files on Macs. MC provides some basic functionality, but doesnt even compare, as is the case with all (I literally tried them all, I mean - paid to try them) dual pane managers from App Store.

sorry I do not write well :) I have some really bad dyslexia so tough for me to write etc.. :)

yeah that works for that situation I reckon :) and I might do it the same way since backups are not a huge deal to find again ?
if it was named archive or or backup as a tag name which you could just hit when making it you could do a search with the client name the tag backup and sort by latest ? is that quicker no idea and again forcing something to work is not always the easiest as I am also a very visual person so I might do it your way to :)

also agree has to be easy to do use etc. or it never happens :)
so we try to keep it simple for the most part and not do to many tags
also I am constantly changing small changes as I need to

I use it a few ways color label/tags are to-do,pending ,done are my main ones

a color for posted to social for my work so I remember which ones I posted
a color for current client
also some clear or invisible ones when you create that are just the circle and you do not see them in the finder but they are there :) invoiced, paid (whatever else you want)

I am a photographer and also retoucher so some of it is personal to my biz and some of it is for wifes biz my wife does graphic design layout etc.. she has her own use on top of our mixed she has much more pending kinda things going on and other stuff she uses so this is more my use so we do work together and our own ( having a invisible tag when the client file is created if its hers or mine could help some as a idea and would really something that is done once but will come in lateras example )

if we quickly tag our current clients we are working on with a color lets say we choose Orange and we rename it Current Clients we have a tag and a quick visual

its now pretty quick for me to find our current clients by clicking on the tag in the finder on the left and only see the current say out of 400 + clients we might only be working on a few at any given time
so even this visually is nice to find them quickly or just looking down our list of clients
this is one small way we use labels/tags

so lets say we have a label that is TO-DO and its green
we can use this on a folder for the complete job
or individual files that might be a single retouch in a design or album etc.

sams as say a folder or file that is pending more info or feedback ? lets say that label/tag is yellow and is called Pending

so visually I can now see in the left of my finder (put the labels I want there) any of those files or folders or whatever by just hitting that label on the left and either look inside or sort down really depends on how much is going on etc..
I use this a lot !!!!

NOW comes the best part though is smart searches
start a new search
lets say we want one click for current clients and pending files

just make a custom search with label yellow (or tag Current Clients)
and then hold down the option key and your + turns to 3 dots ...
you then have any all or none in the search so we could then choose Tags and matches pending
and save that as a smart search on the side bar that way with one click you only see the current clients pending
of course you could do the same and then put in folder as the kind near the top to help narrow down etc..
now if you had someone else working here is where that tag owner could come in I could make one for my wifes work one for mine ? we do not have that much pending I feel I need it but its a example of how you could use it :)

I can look up who I have billed in accounting or a spreadsheet
but having it handy for the job folder is nice to so I can create a smart search for current clients and invoiced but not paid and quickly see what is not paid
this can be handy if a client says OH that job XXX I thought it was 37 files you retouched ? or just to give a super quick one click look in finder without opening and looking up in another program etc.. and look and say NOPE it was 43 I did for ya :)
so my smart search of current clients invoiced will allow me to find that quick but again chances are if I KNOW the client I might just click to the color label on the finder called current clients (avoid looking at all) and go OK its Bob and just click his name and view it that way ?

again I just use the simple visual a lot
but the invisible tags and smart searches are great tools also in combinations etc..
but I might have done 4 jobs one day and 3 the next and then invoice those or invoice weekly so again having that quick one hit way to see what is invoiced or done is handy (custom search current done not invoiced as example)

same thing again I can have my favorite folder and tag which ones I post and do a smart search to see which ones I have not if I want to post some new images
yeah I can do this in other programs but I do find it handy to just have on hand in the finder without having to open another program etc..

or something like current client pending longer then 2 weeks and use that as a quick visual or follow up to see whats happening now again example :) I might do that in another program or in a calendar so just sharing ideas

hope this helps and again sorry if its hard to read :) I need to make some videos :) hahahahaha

MC provides some basic functionality, but doesnt even compare, as is the case with all (I literally tried them all, I mean - paid to try them) dual pane managers from App Store.

to hit on this :) I never try to be THIS is the way it is I try to say this is like Pizza I like it a certain way and so do you :) and their is no perfect but its for ME or IMHO :) while I forget that I tend to speak from my position so kinda intended :) hahahahahah

I used to work a lot in windows before OS X and some after and for me the lack of quickly tagging of all file types and quick easy customizing the left pane of file explorer and the smart preview and column view are deal breakers and of course my color management if they go that fixed it would be worth it for the hardware

i tried the total commander also some older one that had some kinda rough column view but it was nowhere near native of OS X

I do think everyone has dif needs if you are juggling a lot of clients and various stages one has to find what works for them :)

most folks are just working on their own stuff and often limited number of it as they do the job get done and onto the next or might have a couple job overlap as a photographer waiting for client to choose album files as example

my daughter hates windows loves OS X my boy (10) loves windows but mostly because its a good gaming setup its actually for tethered capture but he gets to use it a intel 7820x with a 1080 GPU NVMe 1TB data SSD boot and 32GB mem (asus MB and meshify case)
I work on a color accurate monitor buy my 2nd is a 34 inch ultra-wide dell monitor not gaming comp awesome but still pretty awesome for the ultrawide experience with a good cpu and gpu decent I do love it more then the PS4 :)
even at 55 I am still a gamer as part of the tech fun I love

I also think its important my kids (everyone) to have solid experience with both systems !

building a new mac mini for the wife and have a i7 with a external GPU and the thing is really nice closer to my 7820x box then I thought it would be !!!! so I also think hardware is not the issue anymore with Adobe its Adobe itself that gets in the way and really needs some serious optimizing but in programs like capture one the PC has solid gains with the GPU used properly !!!

maybe to the point of folks jumping ship on this thread choose each one for the best as a photographer this is like having primes and zooms why dump one or the other :)
gaming have both PC and console :) although PC is superior for performance but working on a computer all day sitting in front of a nice TV and on the couch is just kinda more fun

as someone who has tried to pull away to save money with 3 computers in our studio
my history I am 55 so used computers since HS apple ][e included :) mainframes and so on was the 2nd best hacker at my college so for sure a tech head :)

Thank you for the excellent posts.

I appreciate your detailed perspective. I've come to understand that no machine will be perfect for me. I've had bad luck with Macs, iDevices and PCs recently. This is also true for the Surfaces I tried (though that was more me than the Surface line).

I know PCs can be nightmares with updates and missing drivers (I've dealt with an update crippling my long gone 2017 Acer laptop. I also know I treated the three Surfaces I tried over the holidays like Macs and screwed them up right out of the box due to accidentally deleting mice, and after trying every official fix and other stuff, not being able to fix it. This scares me.)

While I appreciate your optimism about Mac hardware issues being fixed, I am struggling with giving Apple more money after so many iDevices going wonky too fast and their decline in build quality/QC while charging more money.

Not sure what I am going to do. I do not use my machines professionally. Big life change here though so I am not sure that jumping to PCs is such a good idea either.

At any rate, thank you for posting your experiences.

Thanks for sharing! I can definitely see how labels are useful in your case and also why they won't improve my life. The amount of files I produce is very small, my projects last weeks or even months sometimes and the deliverable is usually a Virtual Machine. But I may use some of your ideas to manage family photo/videos collection, which is a complete mess right now.

I like that idea and my kids have also access to both, although they just had 5th birthday. I'm trying to show them Commodore 64 and Amiga games, but as it turns out Montezuma's Revenge is no match for Minecraft. But I don't give up that easily, besides the argument to show the kids history of computing is one of the few reasons my wife still didn't throw away my vintage computers collection while I'm gone on project, which collection is frankly is a little bit too large.

Join http://dadshideout.com, most of the guys play wargaming titles, tanks and warships, but you should be able to find mature companions for other pc or console games.
