No way am I going to cancel. I’ll return it if I don’t like it, but I’m not canceling without having used it for the full two weeks.

I thought about it for a few minutes the following day but said screw it. I’ve been doing this since the original iPhone so why stop now. Besides I pass down the previous models to my family and sale off the oldest phone. Remember when the first iPhone was around $599? Besides phone cost are going to continue to rise. Look at all the Samsung flagship prices, $$$.

Yes, $1500 for mine, with Apple Care, and I've thought about cancelling all day. But...
- you only live once
Indeed. You only live once: And think what a life-changing adventure you could have for $1,500 - if you hadn’t spent it on a phone.

I considered the $1,500 price tag myself, but this time Apple’s gone too far, IMHO. And I’ve been a fan of their stuff for decades. I’m totally addicted to their brand and product philosophy, but $1500 for a phone is out of whack for an everyday object that needs to be used. It’d be like owning an expensive car, but being scared to take it to work or the grocery store in case it got dinged. At that point it stops being functional. It becomes a liability.

Not knocking you but I thought it out well before purchase, so no. No regrets.

I am the same way. When you spend $1000 dollars on something, you have better thought it through, ordering and canceling right after seems reckless.

I think a lot of people forget its even 1,000 with these payment plans, therefore think less about it beforehand. Then when getting the confirmation email that “yes. You’ll end up paying $1200” is a shock and causes a bit of regret for not thinking it through more

This is a growing trend amongst smart phones. They are increasing in price point every year and the consumer needs to make the justification if they can afford the phone and what does it offer them in terms of features they would appreciate in the upgrade.

Yes, I cancelled my preorder because I’m really unsure about the Face ID. Also, don’t think this OLED phone is worth $1,000. I’m not sure what to do now because I actually need a phone. Android is out of the question.

This sounds like exactly why Apple also released the 8 and 8 Plus. Familiar design, lower price, but basically the same internal specs and capabilities as the X.

are there other consumer product area where the frenzy to buy is always for the most expensive option?
may e it is an affordable luxury thing. not everyone can own a ferrari, but nearly everyone can own the best phone in the lineup....

Not even close. After using the Essential phone (almost the same size as the iPhone X) my 7 plus felt like a monster. I love the screen size in the body of a smaller phone. It’s like having my cake and eating it too.

Most of us here haven't even held it in our hand. Will wait until I see it in person, then will decide. That's why the later delivery time doesn't bother me. I got another week to decide.

Too long have I been on the smaller phone and my Plus friends keep telling me "The Plus is So Much Better". Now this year, the best is in my preferred smaller form factor. They may come out with an X+ next year, but at least for this year I'll be happy with my dual lens OIS.

Nope. I ordered through Verizon and I’m only being charged $63.25 upfront with a $11 increase on my monthly bill. That’s not bad at all for a $1149 device.

I don’t cringe at the idea of paying $1200 next year because this is a product I get a ridiculous amount of use out of. No other product in my life gets used as much as my phone, so when I think about value and whether it’s worth it, HELL YEAH IT IS

I am fully willing to pay top dollar for good technology that enhances my life.

That’s how I see it exactly.

I wasn’t sure I’d order one. I figured it’s better that I did than didn’t. I can always return it if I don’t like it or don’t think it’s worth it. I kept my 6s plus for two years and so will likely keep this for two years too. Either that or keep the 6s plus another year, but will need a new battery.

The “justifications” for me were an improved camera over my current phone (yeah I could get that with a 7 plus or 8 plus) as well as an improved screen. The fact that I use my phone as much computer for 99% of everything I do helps; I have a six year
Old MBP that gets used a few times a month.

I’m also somewhat confident I could sell the thing for more than I paid if I decide I don’t want to keep it too, so there’s always that. I probably won’t do this though; too much hassle/headache.

I paid more than this for my Mac, and the phone will be used significantly more. I completely understand the “just a phone” argument, but it’s the centerpiece of technology for most people.

For people talking about leasing. That’s not a bad thing. Buying a depreciating asset is never good :)

I actually paid $850 for the original and Apple dropped the price shortly after and refunded people who paid $850

Something about paying this much for a phone just isn’t sitting right with me. I’m thinking of canceling but don’t want to regret doing it.

Common buyer's remorse. Understandable and perfectly reasonable feeling, esp if it's something you truly cannot afford. If you can afford it but just can't wrap your head around the price, join the club. I had to suspend reality myself. But I really want a bigger screen and optical zoom camera that the regular 4.7" iPhone can't deliver. I have no illusions though that the X is an exceptional toy that will in no way enhance my productivity. I think these kind of nutty buys are OK occasionally. We all need shiny new objects once in awhile.

I would say this: don't cancel just yet. You have X # of days to return your phone depending on where you bought it. Unless you bought it 100% out of impulse to get the thrill of buying you bought it for a reason and now just feel guilty about the price. Again, that is rational. Give it a spin. Then you'll know if it's for you and not have any regrets whether you keep it or return it.

Alternatively, play with it in-store after the launch next week. That should give you some indication if it really floats your boat, though not as good as using it IRL.

I already considered canceling while taking the pre-order.

Checked on my credit cards that my Mom keeps and are nearly maxed out with less than $200. My parents uses my name for credit cards only to ruin it and then asked me to file for bankruptcy. Six figure annual income for 25+ years but they filed for bankruptcy multiple times and just press reset with a lawyer.

I only have $800 in cash but that's for my 1099. So the only way I might go through with it is if I go back to Best Buy and ask to change the purchase from whole sum to installments (mandatory carrier sign-up). I just find it weird that I just got out of Verizon in Sept 30th and now going back to them by Nov 10?

I didn't even find paying $650 for a Pixel worth it and I loved that phone those first five months before Oreo. Now $1200 for a mobile OS I prefer as a secondary and worse robust as macOS? My T-Mobile bill is $81. If I pay off the S7 edge, it will drop to $57. If I sign up for Verizon, it will be $140+. That's $90 + $50.

At least if I cancel, some random walk-in will get one which helps both sides. I didn't scalp it to make a quick buck. I will just need to see it in-person and don't mind Nov 10 so I have more time with my decision. The bigger decision is really if I want to go back to Verizon which has better coverage and faster LTE in my area or stick to T-Mobile with the 50GB and more of my phones work on it. $80 v $140 too.

What would you call it? You aren't financing it since you don't own it, you send it back and get a new one.

Installment loan. Like paying off a car or anything else? I think lease just means you’re basically borrowing it while paying a monthly fee without really paying into the total cost.

I thought it was in the $800+ price range. I doubt we get that lucky with the 10.
