So I ended up getting a wifi iPad 2 with a leather case, never used, for $200. It's awesome. Thanks for all the input folks.
The resolution really doesn't intrigue me all that much. Nor do the upgraded graphics capabilities; when I play a game on my iPad it's solitaire 95% of the time, and sometimes I'll load up a game of Monopoly if I'm stuck for something else to do. Other than that I'm reading, either websites, iBooks, or Feeddler. The current resolution of my iPad for those tasks has been fine for me.![]()
You saying the retina displays doesn't interest you but yet you mostly read, websites, iBooks and feedler ........ AND THE RETINA DISPLAY DOESN'T INTEREST YOU???
Ummmmmm OK![]()
So if I don't conform to your way of thinking and buying...what? I'm lying? What is the point that you're making?
Enjoy your new iPad, I am enjoying mine immensely so far.
I will stand in solidarity with Pete and say I'm eagerly waiting for my refurb 16GB wifi to arrive on Thursday or Friday.
I got a Nano 16GB which I didn't want as a gift at work so was able to exchange that, sell my iPad 1 to eBay for $200, and basically upgrade a generation for $20 tax.
It's tough, I want the latest too, but I don't have much disposable income. Someday! I'm excited for the improvement over iPad 1.
I understand not wanting to upgrade. I wouldn't have if it didn't have a retina display. But how can someone say it's not an impressive screen. I just don't get it. It's going to be gorgeous.

I'm getting an iPad 2 but I don't think it's the reason you are looking for and I won't be getting it this week.
My mom is upgrading her iPad 2 to the new iPad so I'm benefitting by getting her old iPad 2. And I have to wait til I visit her in May to get it
(But hey, free ipad
! Which is awesome when you are on a tight budget and you just cannot find any justification for it and you can't really justify buying a random extra toy with no real use for you that you don't already have something that does that reasonably well).
I'd love the better screen and if I were buying one myself I'd just spend the extra for the better screen. But, the iPad 2 is still a good device and still is pretty relevant even if you are worried about still being compatible with new apps (and even games).
Ohhh good lord nevermind ... strain your eyes for all I care I guess ... just trying to point out that you of all people and the ones who read etc. with their iPads should be REALLY interested in the The New iPad ... but to each his own. You will when you can afford it I guess.![]()

Lol, thanks brother. I will tell you, coming from an iPad 1, I am already super impressed with this upgrade. It's incredible how fast it is compared to the oldest generation model I've been using happily for two years now.
I genuinely hope everyone loves their iPad 3s, and will gladly be there to buy your gently used tablets in a year when you have to upgrade to the latest and greatest.![]()

That is one reason I'm wanting to upgrade at least to an iPad 2. My iPad 1 seems really slow now and the iPad 2 is a definite upgrade. I'm still considering an iPad 2 because I don't want to spend that much money on a tablet that in a year will be barely worth half what you pay for it.

Buying old gear is always a bad idea with Apple. Enjoy the iPad 2 performance deterioration with new OS upgrades, as well as a lack of software features moving forward.
