On its Way

I recently purchased an iPad 2 and have subsequently retuned it and placed my pre-order for iPad 3 on March 8.

The original purchase took place on March 4. Knowing that there was a good chance the iPad would be updated within a few days, I figured this was a good time to buy an iPad 2, because there were three potential outcomes:

1. I became a happy owner of an iPad 2.
2. I became a happy owner of a discounted iPad 2 (return to apple store for $100 rebate)
3. Return and pre-order and become a happy iPad 3 owner.

After seeing the upgrades in the keynote, as many have discussed here, the upgrades seemed substantial enough to jump through some relatively reasonable hoops.

I checked this morning and the new piece of equipment is now in transit and scheduled for a 3:00pm delivery on Friday.

For those that have an iPad 2 and are unable to upgrade, I know they still will enjoy their number one selling tablet. It is hard to keep up with technology in real time. I am very excited for the arrival of my iPad 3, but in the not too distant future I will be remiss as always when arbitrarily my MacBook Air 11, iPhone 4Ss and iPad 3 are rendered relatively obsolete in a short amount of time.

Enjoy what you have, while you've got it. Purchase new equipment when you can afford it, and relish in the fact that we can go back and forth with no end on a forum about high-end electronics.

I just want to say, it's not that I can't afford to buy the iPad 3. If I really wanted to I could easily buy two of them on Friday. But as I've gotten older and made more money I've found that I am less willing to part with it for the "newest" thing because they're only new for 12 months and then the newest newest thing is out and everyone is jumping on that device. I've been on this rollercoaster with Apple since the first iPhone came out, and as I sit here with my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2 all I can really think to myself is "why do I NEED anything else?".

I wanted the iPad 2 because web surfing and typing on the iPad 1 had gotten a little laggy; tabs reloading every time you open them (I usually have a tab or two in the background) was getting old. But the iPad 2 met those requirement superbly, and I ended up getting an amazing deal buying from my father-in-law who bought an iPad 2 for himself but ended up basically opening the box and looking at it once.

I have absolutely no doubt that the new iPad's screen is a thing to behold, and I absolutely will play with a display version at Best Buy at some point just to take it in. I have an iPhone 4S so I have an idea what it's going to be like. But what you guys don't seem to get is that it doesn't compel me to buy it right now the way it does you. In a year when it's discounted as the newest newest newest iPad comes out and I'm buying an iPad 3 for $399 (or less if my father-in-law gets one ;) ), I will come here and post another thread like this and be told how stupid I am for not getting one with hi-def speakers or something and we'll all have a good laugh together.

There's nothing wrong with your logic in my book. Enjoy your iPad!!!
