I'm an attorney, and in my opinion this is nothing less than a "bait and switch" tactic that amounts to illegal unfair and deceptive trade practices.

Your aren't much of an attorney then. They don't owe you a unit and even if you order and your card are charged they have a certain number of days to ship.

BTW - my 32GB order on 3/11 @ 5:17 pst has still not been processed, but my AMEX has been charged.
Will be canceling this order tomorrow if this does not improve.
Since I was led to believe that I would receive it on Sat, the delivery is my home, and tired of calling every morning for status to see if I need to make delivery arrangements for the required signature.

Well, I went to my local Apple store (~45 mile drive) which expected a shipment today and opened an hour early to accommodate customers. I arrived 30 min prior to opening and was ~30th in line, by the time they opened there was about 60-75 people in line.
At 9 a.m. there were 8-10 Apple employees ready to serve customers, but the expected delivery never arrived. Needles to say, many disappointed customers and Apple employees.
Several observations;
- Apple is supply very limited, which may be a manufacturing yield issue
- Demand has far outstripped Apple expectations
- Apple logistics and internal communications leaves a lot to be desired, since they opened many stores early in anticipation of deliveries that never materialized
- Although I planned on canceling my order with Verizon, I did not since did not want to loose "my place in line"

Advice to Verizon customers who want an iPad2 soon - unless the credit card billing puts you in a bind, keep your order to maintain your "place in line".

That is my plan for now. And my local salesperson has agreed to provide me with daily updates on whether or not I have a tracking #, so I can make arrangements to sign for delivery.

I don't understand how people can defend Verizon in this situation and rationalize it with this ************.

Verizon should have their own stock. As I mentioned earlier, this was not a pre-order from Verizon. Verizon sold and continues to sell the unit with the intent that it will ship immediately (or within reason). They never advised anyone at the time of placing the order that there is a 2-3 week wait.

Even if you call Verizon now and order the iPad 2, they still don't advise you of the "lead time", so to say.

This is pure lies. They tell me they went out of stock. How? I placed my order at 5pm EST, the earliest possible time they would accept order! We were all lead to believe that they are in stock and will be shipping immediately.

This has not been the case.

He's not defending verizon, he's just saying you're not going to get it any sooner by canceling your verizon order and ordering it somewhere else.

Thanks for the law lesson. I'm so glad that we have someone with this much knowledge on the forums.

Here is how it actually plays out:

-They do "owe" me a unit, since I bought it.

-They don't have a "certain number of days to ship." Their contractual obligation is to ship and deliver as promised. For me, they promised to ship Friday and deliver on Saturday. Since I didn't get it, they failed to comply with that contractual obligation. An "unfair and deceptive trade practice" argument can also be made because that's similar to a "bait and switch" (promising something in order to make the sale and then changing the terms).

Wow. Its nice to see someone getting a shipment from Verizon. I does suck not knowing anything and not being able to track order status, especially when they have your money. Think about it, if they sell 10,000 of these things and collect $750 from each person that is $7.5 million they get to sit on for a couple of weeks. I wouldn't mind having that interest. I'd be willing to bet they took more orders than that so far. In my opinion it is bad business practice to charge someone without a definite ship date.

I got my iPad today and I ordered Friday at 5:03. Verizon never did give me a tracking number but Fedex did.

How did fedex give you a number? through email?

I finally got verizon's order tracker to work and this is what it said:

Thanks verizon.

What did you put in for order number? I'm still getting the same error message as before.

Order number is the number after the # at the top of the receipt
Location number are the numbers before it. in my case on the receipt it was written as "D2587 01" so you put those two together into one number as the location number "D258701"

Still getting the "We are experiencing technical difficulties, please check back later" message...

Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I double checked my receipt. I had D258701 as the location number when it's actually supposed to be D285701. back to getting the same error as you guys...damn.

Thanks verizon.

Tried it with my location numbers and it didn't work. Used YOUR location code and my order number and my name and got the same screen as you. :confused:

Anyone out there place their order on Sunday? Still waiting to hear anything...I wouldn't mind waiting if I had some idea of what to expect...come on Verizon - help us out here!!:confused:

Not knowing is the worst part. Well, having them sit on your money is bad too. I placed an order with Apple also just in case. The Apple delivery isn't until April 26th but at least they give you a status AND they DON'T charge your card until it ships. Once somebody tells me they are shipping, I will cancel the other. My luck they will both ship on the same day. :)

Guys trust me on this one I have been a Verizon customer for the past 10 years and I have never had any problem ordering from them. Usually when you place an order from Verizon you have a tracking number and free overnight shipping email within an hour. Even last month when I ordered an iPhone from them they were faster than just about any other place. This is clearly an issue of not having enough stock from apple.

I agree. I don't think Verizon is doing anything intentionally. I am bothered by the fact that my card was charged and I am getting very little communication about the status of my order. If they didn't already have my money, I wouldn't be so annoyed by it. BTW, the CS rep who took my order has been communicating with me via email. She usually responds within an hour of my emails. She has done her best to provide me with as much info as she can, but she doesn't know anything other than MAYBE next Friday. When I placed my order at 5:00:01 ET 3/11, i was told it would ship that day. Didn't happen.

Anyway, I placed a second order directly with Apple just in case they screw the resellers and fulfill their own orders first, as has been suggested in other threads.

I don't think they're trying to screw anyone, but they're making a lot of money by charging people without shipping anything (there's a lot they can do with it) and since I'm not an existing customer they don't have my email to send me updates and none of their website tracking stuff works. I would have appreciated a call saying "hey we miscalculated the stock and we're planning on getting your order out (whenever) and we'll call if you anything changes)

if it was some crappy free phone I wouldn't give a ****. but this is a $900 device I ordered.

Verizon web customer service - 8th graders at best

Well I am still awaiting a tracking number for the order I placed at 5:17 p.m. on March 11 at my local store.
Am not a current V customer so have to call daily for status, so I can make arrangements for signature delivery.

On another note, did use the Verizon online "submit a problem" tool.
WOW - was glad to get a response, but had a hard time deciphering the grammer, seems like V is hiring 8th graders to perform responses and cut and paste from corporate emails.

Below is an excerpt;

"My name is XXXX and this is all the information we are provided. Because the equipment is being shipped to us from Apple you will receive a email when it will shipped and with the Fedex tracking information. I most cases the dates there giving us for shipments will be a lot less but this is all we are being told."

The email was from "DO NOT REPLY", but the sender message included;

"We apologize for the delayed response to your email. We appreciate your business and thank you for using Verizon Wireless. Again, my name is XXXX and should you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this email."

Pretty pathetic - IMO another situation where skilled marketing people are avoiding the front line and sitting around with too much time on their hands and leaving the dirty work for others.

XXXX was used above to protect the privacy of the sender.

Still no credit to my credit card.......if its not there by Monday, i'll be filling out the dispute paperwork.

You might wanna talk to your credit card company first. Even if they refund you the moment you request it, it can still take up to 8 days I believe for your credit card company to process it. (they would rather you go over your limit first)
