As a long time Verizon customer and a Verizon iPhone user, I'm glad I decided to go with the AT&T iPad 2. That's just horrible to be charging people's credit cards and then not delivering stock for 2-3 weeks or more and not even mentioning it to people. Also Verizon turned me away with their initial waffling on the activation/re-activation fee issue and then their continued language that makes me believe at some point in the future they would charge a fee to activate or re-activate.

Well I am still awaiting a tracking number for the order I placed at 5:17 p.m. on March 11 at my local store.
Am not a current V customer so have to call daily for status, so I can make arrangements for signature delivery.

On another note, did use the Verizon online "submit a problem" tool.
WOW - was glad to get a response, but had a hard time deciphering the grammer, seems like V is hiring 8th graders to perform responses and cut and paste from corporate emails.

Below is an excerpt;

"My name is XXXX and this is all the information we are provided. Because the equipment is being shipped to us from Apple you will receive a email when it will shipped and with the Fedex tracking information. I most cases the dates there giving us for shipments will be a lot less but this is all we are being told."

The email was from "DO NOT REPLY", but the sender message included;

"We apologize for the delayed response to your email. We appreciate your business and thank you for using Verizon Wireless. Again, my name is XXXX and should you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this email."

Pretty pathetic - IMO another situation where skilled marketing people are avoiding the front line and sitting around with too much time on their hands and leaving the dirty work for others.

XXXX was used above to protect the privacy of the sender.

If you can manage to get a tracking number, fedex will hold it at one of their offices for you.

Another "for what it is worth". I spoke with a Verizon rep today and he told me that my order was scheduled to ship on 3/24 and I should have it on 3/25 since I ordered overnight shipping. I'm not holding my breath.

I expressed my frustration to my card being billed and being told that it was going out immediately. He only said. Our CS reps work on commission. Enough said.

Here's hoping this is accurate.

when did you order? what state?

I live in Maine but I ordered over the phone. I ordered at 5:00PM on 3/11. It was about 5:05 by the time my order was completed.

Ah, MA at 5:37 here. Makes me nervous for when mine's gonna ship if you ordered right at 5, and it's not going to ship until the 24th at the earliest.

I am hoping that the 25th is the date for me. They guys also said I should be able to begin checking the status online on the 22nd. I am not sure what the significance of that date is.

What model did you order. I ordered the 64GB in black. Betting it's less popular than the lower models.

Thanks

Glad I found this thread. I ordered in-store at 6pm on the 11th. Also promised overnight delivery, to arrive Monday at the latest. This was promised by the store manager, whose words were "it will come by Monday, worst case scenario, if FedEx messes up the delivery". Well, here it is a week later. They've blamed both FedEx and now Apple. Manager said he's upset because Apple is making Verizon look bad. I said they don't need any help when they take people's money without having existing inventory to backup their order promises.

I've talked to CS with the same results as you all. No luck for me using Verizon's online order-status checker, or the FedEx track-by-reference method. They have my money for a 32gb Black 3G model, but I have no tracking info, and no way of checking.

At this point I've been told by CS and the store to expect it to ship "By March 25", and be delivered via FedEx next day morning priority. Hmph. We'll see.

I am one of the very few exceptions. I went into the store on Friday, March 11. I ordered my iPad 2 at 5:16 pm. I was told it was coming via FedEx 2-Day shipping. I called the store where I bought it from last weekend to check on the status of the order. They told me they did not have any more information at this time, and could not provide me with a tracking number. They also told me that it may take up to 2-3 weeks to ship. I called 611 on Sunday. The customer service rep looked up my order in their computer system. There still was not any tracking information. He then told me to check back with them on Monday, March 14.

I called 611 Monday evening, and was given a tracking number. The customer service rep told me that I will get it Wednesday. I tracked my package, and my iPad 2 arrived via FedEx late Wednesday morning. The only way that I was able to track it was by calling 611 on my Verizon phone. I tried to check on my order via Verizon's Order Status form but every time I checked, I would get the message "We are experiencing technical difficulties, please check back later." The order status site is worthless.

I may be wrong but so far as i know, only existing customers have gotten theirs. Did you ever try the track by reference method?

Arrggghhhh Verizon

Verizon has handled this whole situation miserably. Like everyone else, I ordered an IPad 2 and was told it was in stock at the warehouse, would ship FedEx Next Business day, and arrive Tuesday or Wednesday (the 15th or the 16th) at the latest. The rep that sold it to me also told me she would get me shipping/tracking info on Monday. (I placed the order on the 12th.)

Monday, she wasn't there, and the associate I spoke to told me they couldn't give me tracking info since I wasn't already a Verizon customer. I thought maybe they were mistaken, and called again on Tuesday, only to be told to call customer service. They directed me back to the store, saying they couldn't look it up, and so on. On Wednesday, they told me that I could at least see when it had shipped by checking when the charges hit my card, but when I checked that, I actually got billed for it on 3/12 when I ordered. What a huge CF.

The story from the Verizon reps seems to have been so consistent for so many of us that you have got to think the reps didn't mislead all of us, this must have come from above at Verizon.

I may have had to wait to get one anyway, but I hate being lied to about availability, as I didn't pursue other options. I also wonder what happens if I don't receive the device at all. I have no way of tracking my order, and I can't return it without waiting for it to arrive. No one at corporate or local levels seems to be able to tell me any information about my order at all. This is just really nuts, and it doesn't make me feel like I'd want to shift any of my other business to Verizon. I think they really need to get on the ball here and at least figure out how to give us order status/tracking info.

I will add on and say im in the same boat. I purchased mine march 12 and they told me I would get my iPad 2 by march 16. I opted to pick up in store since I know I can't take time off and would be easier for me that way. When I called them march 16, no shipment in yet and told me there was a 2-3 week wait even after the Wednesday delivery date they told me. My credit card has been charged and theres no way for them to cancel my order since I did not sign up for a service plan. Even scarier customer service can't track my order and only my verizon store can and I have to call frequently to find out more.

In essence, I'm annoyed at the fact that I've been lied to and my credit card has been charged for a device I donthave and apparently, which they don't have either. I don't mind waiting, it's the fact that my money's been taken that irks me.

Anyways, in a way, I'm glad that I'm not the only one in this situation - it would make it easier to file a complaint and have something happen out of it.

I'm glad I went to the Apple Store to get mine. Went in around 7AM on both Tuesday and Wednesday. No luck Tuesday. Wednesday they had exactly what I wanted; 16GB White Verizon 3G iPad. They had 16 of them by the time I got there.

If you really want your iPad that bad, maybe cancel your order and try your luck in person.

Milkshake

On a positive note, I bet my local Verizon rep (this past Wednesday) a Baskin Robbins Milkshake that my iPad would not arrive within a week of my Mar 11 5:17 pm order.
The free milkshake was rather good, but would have rather had the iPad2 in my hand!
Oh the whoas of short supply and high demand........make the most out of it and sit tight.

Compared to what most of us are getting out of this situation (a headache) that sounds like a win to me.

So I went back to the verizon store today. 20 minutes of waiting around for the incompetent employees and ending up with nothing but the first name of the district manager (they wouldn't give me his name, nor the office phone number)

The only answer I got about ship times was "According to the computer, orders placed on 3/11 will be shipped 2-3 weeks from the time the order was placed."

Well... Here's the update, after finding an iPad2 at a local Target store today and purchasing it. I went in to the Verizon store where I had "purchased" an iPad2 on launch-day, March 11, at 6pm. The short story is that the store manager couldn't cancel the order and refund my money. Unbelievable. I had him call customer service. They couldn't cancel the order or refund the money. Unbelievable. He proceeded to call some other corporate department, but had to call from his own personal cell phone - because "They don't allow us to contact them from the store lines." WHAT THE $&!**??!

Anyway, when they finally answered, I was directed to a supervisor who told me she had filled out an official request to cancel the order and process a full refund. She said it would begin processing in the morning, and that within a "few days", I should have the money credited back to my card. She did give me a case reference number, and a number to call back to check on the status. She also took my phone number and gave me a promise to follow up personally within a couple of days. I was also told that, "in the unlikely event that the product does ship before the cancellation and refund are processed, please refuse delivery to avoid being charged a restock fee" L O L.

So, at least this person was helpful, and gave me some assurance that this will finally be resolved. She was pleasant, helpful, and professional, and I have a reasonable expectation that the refund will be processed soon. As an additional measure, I called the credit-card company and filed a dispute on the charge, stating that Verizon had not delivered the product and had refused to refund the money thus far.

This is the course of action I recommend to anyone who has been stung by Verizon's dishonesty and ridiculous business practices. Attempt to cancel, and then file a. Dispute with your credit-card company. They'll credit the amount back to your account, remove any interest charges associated with it, and then pursue an investigation with Verizon themselves.

I now feel free of the matter, and am enjoying the new iPad2 64gb that I picked up off the shelf at Target this morning. I'll never do business with Verizon again, and neither should you.

Got up this morning and entered my order info into the order status page as I do every morning. Same message came up saying to try back later. The guy I spoke to last week said the ipad would ship around Wednesday for delivery on Friday and that I would be able to track it around Wednesday. Called today and gave the CS rep my order number and location number. Low and behold, I got a tracking number. Delivering tomorrow.

My order was placed at 5 PM on 3/11 and I ordered a black Verizon 32GB. Looking forward to finally getting to hold one of these.
