well im not really planning on breaking my contract, im pretty happy with at&t. but the last couple of times i talked to retention, i just pretty much told them that i felt like i was paying too much for my service, i didnt really say that i would leave. i guess i was lucky to get someone that made me happier.

i did hear about the 65$ plan. but i am pretty happy and safe with 3gb and i barely talk on the phone, i dont need unlimited talk.

----------

id rather pay that $6 for an extra gb. well, i called them alot to get a better deal, and it did work, just took alot of calling and talking to different ppl.

As someone said above, you have zero leverage with the retention department. Complaining about the price a few months after signing a contract makes no sense. I'm surprised they would give you anything at all. If you're complaining 3 months in and expecting to be an exception, what are you going to be like after 5 years.

whats wrong with trying to get what u what from a service that you are paying for? im a new customer so i wasnt gonna settle for the first thing they gave me, i am planning on staying with at&t for a while, they have been good to me.

i was also confident with "complaining" to the retention department because i have a good friend that works for their retention department, so she gave me helpful advice ;)

It'd save you more than $6 per month. I didn't even factor in the 10% discount you're getting.

The basic 2GB shared plan is $65($40/month for 2GB of data and $25/month for the line access)

You save 15% on the talk portion of the bill, but on these plans those discounts typically apply to the data charge, so you'd save $6 there. That brings you down to $59.

Then you said you save an additional 10% off the whole bill, which would save you another $5.90.

So you're down to $54.10 per month on this new plan. You'll have to add on taxes, I'm not sure if they're reflected in the $74 you originally posted.

Over 2 years, you'll save about $480 compared to your old plan. But you'll have to keep in mind that your bill will go up by $15/month when you upgrade your phone in about 21 months, but you'll still be saving about $5 per month at that point.

well its actually $10 discount for 12 months that they gave me. not %10.. i have two discounts $10 off the bill for 12 months and a %15 discount off the talk... it does sound very tempting and i dont usually go nowhere near 2gb.. hmmm

Because the term 'retention' implies that you are going somewhere. Since your under contract as a new customer you weren't going anywhere without paying an ETF.

But hey, squeaky wheel right?

Thinking about checking out T-Mobile service, can I transfer my sim card to a iPad to preserve my grandfathered unlimited?

I believe there are people who do use their AT&T iPhone SIM in their iPad just for the data, but I think you have to change the APN settings on the iPad to use it. Maybe someone here can chime in on this method?

I have the 450 talk, unlimited messaging and unlimited data plan. I pay $120.00 per month with a discount.

I've thought about switching to something else but that thought quickly goes away. The unlimited plus is something that I can never get back if I give it up. Most months I only use 2-3 GB of data. There has been a few months that were higher and one when I used 7GB and wasn't throttled. I have the 5GB plan for my iPad. Usually use 2-4GB per month. Ideally a 10GB shared plan would work for me. That would be more than enough most months and it would save about $20. per month. I guess I could look at it as if I did go over on data one month, the money that I'd save would cover it and the rest of the months with be extra in my pocket. Just can't bring myself to give it up yet. Maybe if the price of data plans go down a little bit more.

Not sure if you already know this, but you also gain tethering on the share plans. You can never(officially) get that with the unlimited plans.

I currently don't have a need for tethering. My iPad is also on my plan.

I still have the unlimited plan that i got back in 2011 and since both of my main lines are unlimited i was able too add a line in october of last year with it from an att authorized retailer which is cool so its still possible to get but i wouldn't switch from it due to how much data i use a month

I had the unlimited plan, but I got rid of it a while ago to get a tethering plan which I got rid of several months later. It wasn't really a big loss since I didn't use that much data (<2GB/mo).

Now, I have the Mobile Share 10GB plan ($80/mo after discount) and have my 5S ($15/mo). I also switched my prepaid VZW iPad to take over the dummy line I had in my account; I was only allotted 1GB for $20/mo at Verizon but now, I'll share the 10GB/mo for just $10/mo. Also, great thing is that tethering is enabled by default on both 5S and iPad. Before I was paying $140/mo for everything, now just $105/mo and comes with more data!

Still have it..
Family talk 700
Unlimited text mobile to any mobile calling
Family/friend list(10 number) unlimited calling
4 lines domestic unlimited data
1 line with international unlimited data

$250/month for all 5 lines

Of course, I get such a great discount on my phone service that I'm a bit jaded as to what's a good deal for everyone else, because I'm sure that whatever anyone else considers a good deal is a lot more than I pay.

I'm in the UK (on 3) and I get the following for £15 ($25?) per month:

  • 2000 any network minutes.
  • 500 texts.
  • 5000 '3 to 3' minutes.
  • Unlimited Data.
  • Unlimited Tethering.

It's a SIM Only deal, that I locked into a couple of months ago (I was already on it, but on a 1 month 'rolling' contract.

I think it's one of the few ways that we in the UK triumph over our US friends!

When I see all of the tariffs and varying (confusing to us in the UK!) tariff options, I'm glad I live here!

Not overly relevant to people in the US I know, but I thought I'd mention it. :)

[Edit] - Just to add that I probably don't need unlimited data, but as has been mentioned previously, it's nice to not have to worry about what I'm doing and not have to keep an eye on any data allowances.

Plus, 3 are rolling out 4G here in the UK and there's no charge when it reaches your area, which is nice.

They also have a great roaming tariff, which means you can go to certain countries (USA included) and just use your allowance as if you were in the UK, without any extra costs.

My sister is still on it, somehow. I wish I was still on it, but I remember back when I picked up the iPhone 4 on launch day, the Apple employee who was handling my purchase didn't give me an option to grandfather the unlimited data over. I wish I would've asked him about it, but I thought they were getting rid of it completely at that point. Doesn't really affect me much since I only use around 2 GB a month, but it would've been nice to not have to worry about overages.

I'm still on it but I have a feeling they will no longer allow people who use an upgrade to keep it. I know people have been saying this for ages but they've made some serious changes to the contract.

I think they'll allow people to use the subsidy--as long as they still have subsidies. Once AT&T discontinues the subsidy for *everyone* I don't think they will allow unlimited users on NEXT. "Unlimited" on AT&T really isn't unlimited anyway since they throttle you.

The big reason I am keeping it is because I want to be able to use my iPhone for things I want to do and not worry about how much data I might be burning or whether or not I might get hit with overages.

Also, as I have upgraded over the years, my monthly data usage has increased.

Original iPhone I don't count since it wasn't even 3G. Data-wise, I didn't use it for much outside of email and text (SMS, as it was labeled back then). About 90% of my browsing and app usage was done via WiFi. And back then, I didn't mind it at all, as that was my first smartphone.

For the 2.5 years I spent with a 3GS, I would say I averaged between 1.5-2.5 GB of data per month on 3G. I always kept 3G on and never reverted to Edge (back when iOS gave that "Enable 3G on/off" switch).

Then for the 2 years I used a 4S, my usage increased to about 2-3 GB per month on "4G".

Now on my 5S, my usage again has increased to about 3.5-4.5 GB per month on "4G" & LTE, although 85% of the time I am on data it is LTE. Although when I get home, I turn LTE off and WiFi back on.

So, given my trends, it would make absolutely no sense for me to give up unlimited data. At least AT&T has thus far kept their word and let customers keep grandfathered features. The same can't be said for VZW customers. AT&T claims that they will never take my plan away from me, but I am wise enough to know that times can (and often do) change, so we'll see how much longer that holds true.

I kept it until I switched to unlimited on T-mobile with the 5S. It's cheaper and I use crazy amounts of data with no worries of being throttled.

i still have it i use about 5gbs a month. annoying they got rid of all texting plans besides unlimited. i only use about 1000 texts the rest imessage. so my bill is about $98 a month.

Even if I am throttled, it does not bother me. .500kbps is fine for streaming music and checking social media. I stream ALOT of music. I enjoy not worrying about overages.

I've had the unlimited data plan with AT&T since jump street. I'll never give it up. I use between 15 and 20GB a month. That would cost a fortune in overages with out unlimited. My plan is about $72 a month.

Yeah I wished they kept the other texting plans. I found it was cheaper to just rid of my texting plan altogether and pay the few dollars in texts I get than pay for the unlimited plan.
