I've had the unlimited data plan with AT&T since jump street. I'll never give it up. I use between 15 and 20GB a month. That would cost a fortune in overages with out unlimited. My plan is about $72 a month.

Do you get throttled in your area after 5GB? I get hit on unlimited account over that amount.

I kept it until I switched to unlimited on T-mobile with the 5S. It's cheaper and I use crazy amounts of data with no worries of being throttled.

How do you manage to use so much? Seriously, are you using your phone as a primary home internet connection?

How much TV are you watching away from home? Is there no WiFi in these places? I mean, damn, most people don't use that on residential connections.

I'm an accountant so I sit at a desk for 8 hours or longer. There's wifi, but it's slower than my lte connection. I'm glad I'm putting my unlimited to use.

Oh.

Personally, I like to do my job while im at my desk. But that's just me.

Still grandfathered in with all three of my AT&T lines. AFAIK the other two lines haven't hit throttling territory but I have 2-3 times, usually once I rack up just over 5GB.

Still grandfathered on 2 lines, and don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.

Not worrying about usage > than hotspot, unlimited talk/text.

Still have unlimited on one of my lines but I rarely use more than 2GB/month since I am on wifi networks just about everywhere I go.

Did use about 3GB while in the hospital after my surgery cause my gf was using the internet non-stop.

I've had mine for ages. I'm tempted to change plans, since I'm currently paying for texting, and always go into my rollover minutes. I use about 1.5GB a month. I guess for me, I'm only keeping unlimited because I like the security blanket it offers. I have used 3GB once. In all my years of AT&T Wireless, only did it once.

I have been on ATT unlimited for as long as i can remember. I have been perfectly happy with them up until recently. I still have a 4S so i get throttled at 3Gb. I had only gotten throttled once as of March but it seems like i am getting throttled at the end of my cycle every month now. And this month i noticed my data was really slow, checked my speed, and saw they were throttling me down to .24 Mbps !!! Unthrottled i get between 5-10 Mbps. I could see getting throttled to half speed but .24 makes the phone practically useless for anything other than texting and calling.

I am ready to dump ATT for this, especially since i am off contract. I feel like i cant even use certain apps like pandora or spotify unless i am on wifi because i will blow righ through my data.

I will call ATT and see what is going on. I was already planning on getting the iphone 6 this fall. Att can either convince me to stay with them or to switch to verizon.

Still have unlimited on all 4 lines. I travel a lot, so my downtime and travel times are filled with Pandora, Netflix, HBO GO, Google Music, iWork Docs via iCloud, FaceTime…should I go on?

I hear ya. I am also throttled every month too. I know some people are not, but I have always been throttled. Speeds are about .50mbps. Spotifiy works. Occasionally it will buffer, but I am surprised it works. I often think about switching to the 10GB mobile share plan for $130.

AT&T really has no reason to throttle anymore. I mean how many people still have the unlimited plan? It has to be a VERY small number. And even if all those people used as much as they wanted to, the network would be more than fine.

I wouldn't waste your time. AT&T would rather you leave than agree to not throttle you or provide some other incentive. At least you'll have two more gigs added to your limit when you get a new iPhone. Either that, or switch to T-mobile for their unlimited.

He doesn't have to get a new LTE enabled iPhone to have 5GB. All he has to do is give AT&T an IMEI number from an iPhone 5, 5C, or 5S and he can continue to use his iPhone 4S and have 5GB of data. I did for the longest time.

I was grandfathered into it initially and my upgrade is due in December. AT&T told me they will have to change my data plan. Arguing seemed futile. :(

Considering switching over to the 10GB shared plan as I have 3 lines but we only use 2 of the lines, we added 1 more line so we can get a new phone.

I think they're lying to you. You shouldn't have to get rid of your data unlimited when you're upgrading with AT&T. Perhaps you should speak to a manager.

I'm eligible for an upgrade in November. I'll either wait to get the iPhone 6 then or pay the extra to upgrade when it comes out. Depends on how bad I want it. Still planning on keeping my unlimited plan. I stream Pandora at least 15 hours per week along with using it on the net. I barely break 3GB. I could be fine with their 10GB plan to use for this and my iPad but I like having the option to use more data if I want to.

Actually, I'm looking at their site now. It compares current usage and the price to what a shared data plan would be. Says I used 4.97GB between on phone and iPad. It's $139.99 before my discount. Going to a 6GB plan would be $115.00 and $125.00 for the 10GB. I'd save about $17.00 per month by going with the 10GB plan. That's if my discount applies to the data and phone plans ($100.00 + $25.00 - 23% + tax.).

unlimited with 10.10 hotspot

I know its early and a lot of details are still unknown, but I was wondering if 10.10's hotspot might finally provide a method of tethering while on the att unlimited plan. Or, is it essentially the same technologies as today and I should not plan on any changes.

I spoke with AT&T a couple weeks ago over online chat and asked if keeping my unlimited plan with an upgrade could be possible. They indicated it would be. So, I expect it will still be an option for me in the fall. I don't expect it to be available forever, though.

My wife and I still have ours. I have thought about giving it up for the last year, but still am not sure. I definitely don't think we use enough to justify it, but every year content becomes more data intensive, so I keep it. Although, I can see dumping it when we upgrade the next time.
I am constantly back in forth with my opinion. If I could save a good $40 a month, and not have to worry about running out of data I will switch.

I am in the same position. My wife and I have separate accounts, both still on the unlimited plan. She rarely uses more than 1gb and I now have wifi at work. Since we are on separate accounts we could pretty much cut our phone expense in half if we switch to T-Mobile.

It drops from ~ 70Mbps to ~ 0.3Mbps after the 5GB cap is hit.

The problem is that it can stay throttled for several days into the new billing cycle before speed picks back up.
