For the record. This is not unscrupulous. This is taking a chance with ones own dollars to earn a profit. Someone that wants the phone still gets it.

Of course, but there are some "Me first" people out there who are willing to pay to play.

This is better than the whole "Auction" idea

Happens everywhere from tech to clothing. Look at Yeezys and Supreme, they're limited so once they're gone they're gone but people still buy to flip.

I remember fondly these two women who could barely string together a sentence in English between them, trying to return three iPhone 6s/Plus smartphones.

The Apple representative was trying to explain that they couldn't get cash for the amount; a check would have to be sent to their address to cover the amount owed after return.

I finished checking out my phone and left.

How do you even flip something like this? Do you just meet someone in a parking lot and trust them to hand over 2K in cash? eBay it and risk scammers pretending they never got it?

Sounds like way too much hassle.

It may sound like a hassle, but you literally can make ~$800 in less than a minute. What I have done in the past was meet people at either a police station or a carrier (ATT, verizon, etc) store.

My initial goal is not to flip the phone, but I think people are pretty crazy not to if you see them selling for around $2K on launch day. You nearly pay for the X by doing that.

I obviously do not buy multiple phones, but buying one and flipping it for double is just smart.

I'm planning to buy 3 phones. 2 in silver and one in space grey. I keep one of the silver ones and will sell the other two to the highest bidder...Should be good just before Christmas and a UK unlocked model will have world wide appeal...

I really liked how I think with iPhone 7? Everyone got the phone, scalpers could not win and had to return all the phones they bought because Apple had ample supply.
Depends which model they bought if they bought jet black and black then I seriously doubt it. There was no ample supply for ages...

Remember when people were bidding up the first gold iphones on ebay up to $500. Early adopter vanity tax. Sheep are for fleecing.

I'm going to get one and flip it for $3k min. There are desperate people out there, including "Celebs" that Tim Cook doesn't care about.

I dont think anyone is paying 3K... and where exactly are you going to go to sell an iphone to a celeb? :D:D:D

$3K is out of the question IMO. $1800-$2000 is probably what a launch day model will go for. I say $3K is out of the question, but if those ships times are seriously March 2018 it is possible.

Well, everyone knows the ipX will be in short supply..at least in the beginning. Even in a best-case scenario.

So there will be scalping and people pre-ordering with the intention of making a quick profit on the resale. Not everyone is buying the new iPhone to keep it for themselves.

I've ordered the 8 Plus so it doesn't matter to me.. but I gotta ask... for you X buyers... if you have to wait till March 2018 why would you even bother? In 6 more months the XT will be released. :)

And that is another reason to flip it :D

I honestly think if your ship time is that far out it will probably ship much earlier. Apple has always underpromised and over delivered when it comes to shipping times. If got a 2018 date, I would just cancel the order.

Here is what I see happening, Apple will release the phone in limited quantities. It will eventually get to a 3 month waiting period and then they will introduce the XS. Iphone X will then be in stock at plenty of places selling for $700.

Scalpers are the scum of the Earth, dude. There are plenty of people who want to buy the phone and people like you get in their way every year.

Be better.

I just don't understand that logic. Wake up at midnight PST and order the phone if you want it. I am using my time to turn a profit if I choose to do so.

Like I said earlier, I plan on keeping the phone but if I 1) decide to keep my SE or 2) see them selling for insane prices, I am going to capitalize on the opportunity to fund an additional X for free.

Another example: I bought stanley cup finals tickets (huge Pens fan) for the games in Nashville when they were $440 a piece. I sold each ticket for thousands because it made no sense not to. I had my hotel booked, but couldn't resist.

People act like this is price gouging water after a disaster lol. Its a $1,000+ luxury item. I fault no one for trying to make some money.

I can't flip an iPhone for my own greed, knowing that I'm taking away from someone who actually wants this. It's like spoiling a show, what do you get out of it - a cheap thrill??

Cant I make the argument that whoever is buying the phone from a scalper at a ridiculous price is someone who actually wanted it but couldn't get their hands on one?

You aren't taking away anything. It is not like a show that will never be performed. It is simply queue jumping. Anyone wanting to buy one could wake up and get inline, or pay someone else to do it for them...

Why not? They are providing a service. I often pay people to do a job for me; I pay people to wash my car so I don't have to, or pay people to shop for me so I don't have go around. What is wrong with providing a service to make someone else happy?

Pending on the reports of shortages, I might keep hold until the delivery window before Christmas and then maximise the profit for guaranteed delivery. I even have some sealed payg sims ready for all the networks to sweeten the deal...

It is not like someone who flips the phone has some sort of advantage over the average consumer. They have to get through in the pre-order process just like anyone else. Why is that anyone else's business, what they choose to do with the phone? If they get up in the wee hours of the morning to pre-order a phone, are lucky enough to get one, shell out $1200 to get it, and find some idiot on eBay willing to pay $3,500 because a) they are impatient and b) they have the disposable cash then good for the seller! I know I won't be butthurt over it. They did nothing wrong. They followed the same path everyone else did.

Edit: Shaking my head at all of the people calling these flippers scums and moral-less people. If you want a phone that badly, pre-order before they do! It is that simple. You don't have any clue what they will do with any profit they make. Maybe they will donate that profit to a charitable cause. If so, are they still scum of the earth? If I buy the last raffle ticket before you can, and I win the prize, am I scum because I didn't keep the prize but instead donated it back? And even if they keep the profit to better their family or their life, who are any of you to judge? What, because you wanted the phone but now have to wait an extra week because someone beat you to it? Quit crying.

I think scalping is fair game. If people weren't willing to pay silly money due to impatience then scalpers wouldn't exist..

I read that whilst imagining you rubbing your hands together with a fire behind you, laughing menacingly.

How much will you charge? 256GB for £two innocent children? :D
