I've always used a silicone case because for me, it makes the phone easier to pick up from a flat surface. But with the squared off edges this year (I'm waiting to pre-order a 12 Pro Max, but I fondled a 12 at Best Buy the other day) I think it might be easier, so I'm considering going nekkid. Plus the fact that I now work from home and rarely leave the house....

That's the only thing that's keeping me using the silicon case. It actually feels VERY nicely on the phone - the 12 Pro with the silicon case is perfect. I can pick it up from my desk with ease.

Nekkid? I actually have to try a lot harder to pick it up off my desk.

In previous years I've always purchased either an Apple silicone or leather case when I got a new phone. They typically lasted between four and six months before being retired to a drawer when I took em off to clean the phone and was reminded how amazing they feel with nothing on. This year I've decided to save my money and go au-naturale from the start.

I realize it's all down to personal preference but some of the cases I see people using make me cringe. Even worse are the screen protectors that are all bubbled and dusty. Like, how do you tolerate looking at that through the day? Back when I used screen protectors, if I couldn't get an absolutely flawless application it came off for another try or went into the trash (depending on the type). That's what was so nice about the film protectors you get on Amazon; they usually came in packs of 4-6.

I usually end up buying a case, using it for about a day or two, and then deciding against it. Having AppleCare+ seems to give me enough piece of mind.

I ordered a bumper, and I'm interested in the saddle brown leather case but I haven't seen them for the 12 Pro Max yet. I'd like to go caseless with maybe a bumper, and pop on/off the leather case for travel/leaving the house. Still weeks out from getting a 12 Pro Max though.

I tried caseless with my XS Max while I'm still WFH, but that thing is a bar of slippery soap, so I gave up after a few hours. :)

With my 12 Pro - it's very difficult to take off the Apple Silicon case. Unlike the last generation design, which was easy to remove, this one is not. Just an fyi.

Do you know if these films are in production anywhere? Can’t find them anywhere!

The 2 I am considering, XtremeSkins and SlickWraps. Both can be ordered in clear glossy or clear matte. The SlickWraps got the back is one piece where you apply the back and fold flaps to cover the sides which will give some corner protection. The XtremeSkins come as 2 pieces, one for the back and another for the sides. With XtremeSkins you can order the back in one finish and the sides in another. Which means you can order clear matte back and clear gloss sides. This allows you to better match how the phone looks naked,

I dont think I've had a case since iPhone 4, probably dropped a phone less than a dozen times in that time span. I think I've cracked a screen once during that time as well.

Cost of all those cases and not being able to see/feel the beautify of Apples design is well worth it IMO.

Careful with SlickWraps. I always hear horror stories regarding their shipping times and customer service.

That said, when I do the skin thing I use Dbrand and have always been happy with them.

Edit: Now that you got me looking, I'm thinking of picking up a matte black skin for the frame of my 12 Pro. Thinking that would look pretty slick with the tiny bit of chrome showing through between the screen and the skin.

I had dbrand on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. IT was ok. I couldn't get the edges on the back from feeling sharp - but I used my 11 Pro Max in a case so... I didn't mind.

I have a dbrand on my iPad Pro 11 - absolutely love it. Makes using the iPad nekkid actually doable. lol.

I will be interested in hearing you thoughts on the XtremeSkins when you get it. Curious to hear about how the matte finish feels to the touch. Please post some pictures of the phone after you install the film.

Will do!

The dbrands don’t offer a clear wrap that covers the sides of the phone from what I can tell from their website and from review videos of their product. It sounds like I will probably go for the XtremeSkins clear matte back and clear glossy sides which will match the naked look of the 12 Pro Max. I used a clear film in my iPhone 4S and it was great. The only thing that the clear films won’t protect are the buttons on the sides on the phone.

Yep, the Xs Max, and 11 Pro Max - those things were just way too slippery.
This is why I used a case on the XR: the rounded edges were just that much harder for me to pick up without fumbling around. The flat sides of the 12 family are much easier for me, which is part of the reason I feel more comfortable going caseless.

I've gone naked on every phone up until now. I have a 5yr old and a 2yr old, and they're on my phone constantly (had an X for 3 years before getting my 12 Pro).

I got a clear ESR case from Amazon ($18 with 2 screen protectors) and used it for the first time. So far so good. I just know that if one of my kids (or I) drop the phone this soon after I just got it, I'll be really sad... Plan is for me to keep the case on for a few months, until I get in the rhythm of the new phone (size, weight, etc.) After a few months, if I feel things are pretty good, I might go caseless again. But for now, the added peace of mind is worth not being able to enjoy the "nakedness" in the near-term.
