Anyone tried Snow Leopard?

Has anyone tried upgrading to a Snow Leopard beta build with this mod in place? Any issues?

Hi all,

Thanks for the info on this really great mod. I've only got one problem to report.

I have a pre-Santa Rosa MBP and I installed the LTN154U1-L03 panel into it from ebay. I used the sleep method to get it to work with OSX. Problem is that Windows XP is now showing up in distorted colours. Any way to fix it?

Cheers.

I used powerstrip in the bootup to fix mine.

When I was running this mod, I found that there was no way to get the colors in XP to work in BootCamp mode. I also found PowerStrip to be unacceptable and too finicky to set up. But for my usage, using XP in Fusion was perfectly fine.

I think you have the same panel I used. Are you planning a Snow Leopard update on Friday?

I am going to wait a couple weeks to get all of my favourite applications Snow Leopard compatible so upgrading will be less painful in the beginning.

Running 10.6 Build 10A432 with a LG screen set at 56Hz Refresh Rate using SwitchResX everything is working fine.

I've got one upgraded to Snow Leopard too (Developer Build)! I'm interested in upgrading sometime soon (Nehalem). I'm going to miss this hi-res screen.

Hi Folks,

I have a 2.33ghz C2D MBP which had a water damage.

I replaced the system board, inverter and display to the lp154wu1-tlb1

Got OSX booting up, problem is that backlight does not seem to work properly with lp154wu1-tlb1.

When I power up the box, the display lits very dim, then this backlight flickers for 1-2 seconds and turns off. The display still shows everything (Apple boot logo, OS) just no backlight.

Is this a software or rather HW issue?

Regards

Going to buy an LG LP154WU1 Panel, I am after some info on the tacked on numbers to the panel model number (A1) (K3) etc.

Has Anyone compiled a list about what mounting tabs are on when panel so as to know what one is easiest to remove the tabs.

Thanks

Just call up the dealer you're buying from and ask for a LP154WU1 model that has no tabs.

I told the guy I was buying the screen to customize my 15" LCD MacBook Pro and he responded with a well mannered yes that sounded like others have asked the same.

My screen is still running like gold with SwitchResX. THough it's really annoying that I have to use an external display every time I reinstall the OS.

Guys, sorry if this is off a tangent but one thought I had was replacing the CCFL screen with a newer generation LED LCD, presuming they're available on eBay and such. Are there any 1920x1200 LED LCDs in 15.4" form?

Ah cool will see what they say when i phone thanks.

Swapping for a LED display has been answered earlier in this thread and is stated as not possible.

Windows 7 Beta 1920x1200 no workie

My WUXGA LG display looks fantastic under Windows 7 Beta! One problem, the system will not allow me to set the resolution any higher than 1600x1200! so everything looks squashed. Powerstrip recognizes that the screen is 1920x1200 but will not let me change from 1600x1200. If I click on the monitor icon in Powerstrip under customize\display profiles it says that I do not have 'Administrative privileges to alter monitor limits' and shows 1600x1200 in red. But I'm logged in as an administrator.

I need some help from you all who at least know the slightest about Windows.

Edit: Fixed! I just needed to install the ATI BootCamp drivers from the Snow Leopard Disk!

if anyone is still listening…

When watching 1080p MKV files my laptop has been getting so hot that the bottom end of the screen starts fading. So since the movies put black bars on the top and bottom of the screen do to widescreen, the top bar is pure black and the bottom is a light faded black.

Common problem? only occurs when my computer gets really hot. made me think of maybe a 'insulating paste' mod, kind of the opposite of the thermal paste CPU mod many do on their macbook pro's.

WUXGA on Santa Rosa MBP

Hi guys. I don't have the free time to trawl through 49 pages of forum topic, sorry. Can someone therefore help answer these questions:

1) Can someone update me on the progress people have made. What has been found to work thus far?

2) I have a 2.4 GHz Santa Rosa MacBook Pro (June 2007). The 15.4" screen is usable but has had beer poured inside it and now shows a very uneven LED backlight, though there are no dead pixels. I wish to replace it with a WUXGA screen. What are my options? Will a single or dual CCFL fit into my screen bezel? Are there 15" WUXGA panels with an RGB LED backlight instead of white? I only intend to use it with Mac OS X (SL & up).

3) A comment a few posts above this one says that LED backlights were shown earlier in this thread to be unusable/broken/unavailable (which?) with MBPs. Can you point out where that was so I can read those posts that specifically deal with this.

Hey guys, I am just coming across this thread. I hate the viewing angle of my lcd in my 2006 mbp 2.16 core duo 2, the left side always seems brighter unless i look at the screen from an angle.

Is the LG lcd still the best screen to go for? I notice that this thread hasn't been updated a lot lately.

Thanks

Thanks all who were involved in this project. I Installed an LG panel a few months ago and im very happy with it. Running fine with snow leopard and windows with powerstrip.

One issue I do have is the plastic gasket on one side of the screen has a 1mm gap from the frame any ideas? heres a photo of the problem.

Edit. added an image of the other side of the screen bezel

KevinRightWing all the info was added the wiki i have linked.

Thanks diadem, I am looking at it and learning as much as I can. I love my mac from 2006 (C2D 2.16) but have always disliked the screen. I think the left side is much brighter than the right, but apple has never thought so, so I am giving this a shot. I guess if I don't like my new LG then I need to start thinking about the inverter. Thanks guys for all of the earlier posters who have put this together.

Looks like the plastic clips on the inside are messed up from prying. If it bugs you take it apart and very carefully do it again. I replace these about twice a month and never had this happen except when i started out.

willpower101 thanks for the reply. I have now fixed this, I had to glue the gasket back in and all is fine now.

no problem, glad you got it sorted out. Those aluminum alloy frames can be a pain if they start to separate because of how they retain their misshaped form :(

Please help

I need your help guys, i have a 2.33G 15´ MBP and a LP154WU1 screen. Here is my story:

First i disassembled tne MBP follow the guide in internet and without tried the sleep mode, i direct connect the new screen on it. After power on there is just balck screen without a single light from the beginning i press the power button. But it seems to be it boot in to OS and when i press the volume key i can still hear the sound , so i think maybe it´s incompatible so i power down and replaced the old screen. Now when i turn it on the screen still black and after boot into system (i think) i can also control the volume key and seems to be ok but without screen.....Now i think maybe inverter is defect? But i don´t think i damaged anything in the disassemble so very confused.

Later i think maybe preset PRAM may help so tried that several times, now biggest problem come: i lost the the keyboard control, that´s to say after power on, i can still hear the boot ton but screen remains black and when i now press the volume key, no sound at all, and the backlight control also not working. I borrowed a monitor and connect it to MBP, Yes it boot into OS but i can only control with a usb Keyboard and mouse. The buildin Keyboard and trackpad don´t work.....

This is what i think: first at the disassemble something is damaged so no screen both with new and old panels but the motherboard is still ok because the shortkey control is ok. But after the Reset of PRAM the motherboard is also defect. Now the only way i can still use the machnine is with a extra Monitor and USB mouse+ keyboard.

What do you pros think about my situation? I still don´t understand why it comes to such a pain for me .....Thanks very much for your advices.....

Sorry for the long story and my bad english.....

I just wanted to chime in and say I just finished the mod :D and the screen real estate is amazing! I would agree that this mod is not for everyone but for me, everything looks great. I am still getting used to the smaller text after years of the 1440 x 900. The jump to 1900x1200 was definitely a big one. Install was smooth, and my mac looks just like it did before. Now I have an even greater machine!

Best of all - no more glossy. :D Photoshop here I come!
