Not really. There have been many revisions of the white MacBook. There has only been one version of the unibody MacBooks.

But it's the only Macbook that was made in plastic and available at 2.4Ghz!!!1

Seriously now, out of my entire post, that's the part you chose to reply to? :p

I'm tempted to replace my 12" PB with a machine that finally meets all the things I loved about it (except maybe the glossy display). Unfortunately I bought a last gen 15" MBP end of last year because i had to keep the FW. No I have an aging 12" PB and a large but wonderful 15" MBP vs. a single super portable and perfect for my needs 13" MBP.

UGH/yaay. :D

(yes, interesting situation.)

What are you using the 12" for? Max out the ram, install a newer, larger capacity (and thus, faster) hard drive, and tweak your settings in the OS, and it's a surprisingly capable little machine for basic tasks.

Yeah, encoding a video would be painful, but browsing, email and word processing, it rocks!

Not at all. My MacBook works beautifully, and I'm very pleased with it. I have no need to always have the latest and greatest machine, nor am I trying to be one of the "cool kids". I'm a grown man who doesn't go through buyers' remorse. If I'd needed Firewire, or a backlit keyboard, or the word 'Pro' on the screen, I'd have bought a machine that met those requirements the first time.
I couldn't have said it better myself, sir.

Yea, i was mad because previously i wanted the 15 inch but was a little too much ( i spent about $1600 on my 13 inch) and now with the price drop i could have gotten the 15 inch pro. Thats the thing im pissed about is the price drop. I almost sold my 6 month old Alum macbook for $1200 today but then the difference with tax for the lowest 15 inch would be $545 + $400 lost from the sale =$945. DEF not worth it then.

I was tempted to sell my alubook which is also about 7months old, but I realized I don't use FW and the sd card slot doesn't bother me either. I'd only be paying for the extra 130mhz (2.53ghz vs 2.4ghz) or so, better screen (I think) and the battery, which is not enough for me to go through the hassle of selling and then paying a little bit more. If I'm going UMBP, I'm going 15'' with the 9600GT and at least 2.66ghz, nothing less.

Its a great machine. I would very much like an SD card slot but apart from that I have no need at all for anything else. Stated improvement in battery life is not a concern at this point as I am a city boy, and I am not going to cry over .2ghz extra or 4GB ram when I do not max out with my current usage anyway

The way I see it, minimum upgrade is always two generations. I mean generations, Intel processor refreshes do not count

With a name like that, you people are going to make the general, uneducated public think that these machines are rare and valuable when in reality they are outdated machines with no FW or SD card ports.

I am heavily into photography and will never use the SD port.

I think they should put the Express slot on all notebooks and sell adapters for the various memory cards, especially the professional CF cards! ;)

Firewire is something I used to use frequently though not as much anymore.

When I was big into doing video work, I used Firewire all the time. Since I decided still photography was more my desire than video, my need for Firewire has diminished. However some still cameras do have Firewire ports.

Can't say it didn't cross my mind, however being the proud owner of what may be the the end of the white Macbook as we know it. I won't chance it, I just purchased my MB about a week ago and I'm already upgrading the HDD & memory.

We know from history In the next upgrade Apple could change the design. We now know that the white MB is the only MB. So that would make it a collectors Edition. It's the only MB with a 400 F.W. connection & the polycarbonate shell.

You will have time to save up for MBP JR. if you feel the need, it will still be around.

I immediately thought about selling my 2 month old UMB 2.0, but then I actually looked at the the new features:

SD slot: yes, really nice to have, but I only copy images from my camera 3-4 times a year and finding the cable isn't much of a chore

FW800: again, nice on paper, but I don't have any FW devices - I use a NAS and TC rather than a FW hard drive. I guess target disc mode could be nice, but not at the moment.

Better screen: The current screen is fine for me as when I use it it's at the correct angle.

faster cpu: unnoticeable except for x264 encodes - I just leave it overnight with those and the majority of my DVD collection is already done.

So I'm keeping it. This time next year, hopefully the £ will be a bit stronger, so the price should go down again, USB3 will be here along with Arrandale cpus. Of course, there'll probably be a down side such as back to Intel graphics, but my current MB should hold its value (especially with 2 years Apple Care left).

Not at all. What has changed? SD slot? I connect my camera through usb, nicer screen? Ok that pisses me off a bit lol. Firewire? Never used it on my Macbook. The Battery is nice too but I'd rather have one I can change out myself. But for people looking to upgrade an older white model, it would be an excellent buy.

(Annoyed at the price drop too! lol)

I'm really glad I was able to return my refurbished uMB for a bottom-of-the-line MBP Jr. The screen is much nicer and I saved myself $500 (after selling the free iPod). The MBA was incredibly tempting for the new, lower price, but the massive expandability of the current MBP Jr is great.

I love my macbook and i would never change it until it is truly dead. And its nice to think im a minority!!!! lol :D just a quick question, Is the screen update the same as the one that was being discussed a few weeks ago as a silent update for the now retired macbooks??

I'm not naming any posters but I just love how some of the UMB owners are justifying why they like their Macbook instead of the new Pro model. Firewire was the most complained about loss in the UMB and now Apple puts it back and some people are saying, "Oh well I don't use FW anyway so I don't care". Or they say, "My screen is fine, I just keep the angle perfect so I don't care about the new MBP screens" and hardly any of the UMB owners will mention the 8GB supported ram in the new Pro models or the extended battery life because they know they can't crap on those features.
Some of the UMB owners just want to make themselves feel good about their Mac and won't admit that they're pissed about the new models and wish they had one.

How can anyone talk crap about the new models when they have a faster CPU, more supported ram options, much better screen, SD card slot and 7 hour battery and cheaper price?

No offense but don't you often defend the MBAir?
People inherently feel a need to defend their purchases, it is fully understandable.

I would like the new one for the battery life but since mine is used as a Desktop connected to an external display and only moved very rarely I cant justify spending money for a couple extra hours of battery

Collectors Edition? Really?

Get over yourselves.

I have a MacBook, except mine's vintage. It's just like the 13" MBP available today, except it's far more awesome because it contains really old components in it, and the exterior patina is very lustrous due to natural aging, and the constant polishing I do with my keys, much like the fine patina on my old leather Pumas that I get from gravel, and kicking ass.

I no longer own a Macbook Air. This is a different scenario. People were complaining about the Air having screen lines and the lines never bothered me which is why I defended it. In this case people are defending their existing Macbook against the new Pros, while downplaying the new Pro's features, it's a completely different argument.

I'm not at all offended by your comment but I do have to say that maybe you spend too much time on the forums if you can easily recall what people post here. I can hardly remember who wrote what on here 5 minutes ago. ;)

Oh, I am truly jealous of your Vintage MacBook. It's clearly superior to the Collector's Edition.

How much do you want for it?
