and waste time when siri replies "no notifications" 9 out of 10 times.

So if the iPhone X’s had aod you would have gotten it instead of the note 9?

It’s not rhetorical. I would like an answer since you have been voicing your concern for the lack of aod across the forum.

i love how all the apple apologists solution to such a simple feature is to go out and buy 600+ dollars worth of new stuff lol.

apple LOVE people like you.

As opposed to all the note 9 or pixel users raving about aod and how the iPhone should have it?

And if it did aod theses same posters would still not buy the iPhone, you know because of price and or principle. Don’t really understand that.

How many android users rushed out to get a galaxy gear or a android wear device. Yeah let’s not go there.

If Siri is muted on the phone she won’t read anything out. She will just display it on the phone.

I keep saying airpods and Apple Watch because a lot of iPhone users actually buy and use it vs android wear.

There are some posters on here that profess to having the desire to switch to android but remain with iOS because of the Apple Watch.

Yes your are quite correct, I stated that “I” don’t see a point and still don’t even with your scenarios. Take my phone out of my breast pocket look at the screen put it away.
It’s that simple.

If I was at a bar I would not leave a £1500 on the table or on the bar, phone is always in my pocket.

But again I could just glance at my watch when I get a notification and not even take my phone out of my pocket, which is what I do.

Yeah I’m the only iPhone user in the world with an apple watch.

You are incorrect.
Hey Siri was introduce in 2014 with the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 not 2015.

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/what-you-need-to-know-about-hey-siri-in-ios-8/
I can bet there is more users that don't have airpods or an Apple Watch than those who do.

So why do you have to be so technical? Fine, you won't have your phone out at a bar. What about a family / Friends event with loud music? Do you see the point now or are you still being close minded?

You're having issues understanding what I aim saying. You said you don't see the point...I am showing you the point why it is useful. Not why it would be useful to you. I understand, you never take off your Apple watch or your airpods so its not useful for you.

When did I say you're the only iPhone user in the world with an Apple Watch? You're really struggling at understanding what I am saying I see.

Sure, "Hey Siri" was available in 2014 ONLY when charging. The scenarios you mentioned implied using hey siri while it is not charging...unless you're going to tell me you keep your iphone on charge 24/7? If so, my apologies. The full capability came in 2015.

you realize a lot of these posters are saying they have an iphone and miss the AOD feature right? or they have an iphone and wishes apple would implement this feature into their phones right?

your solution is to go out and just buy an apple watch or air pods. if it thinks like a sheep and talks like a sheep and acts like a sheep then....

When I tested out Android with the Pixel 2 and S8, I did like AOD. But with my AW, I can easily get the time. When a notification comes through, my X screen lights up. So while AOD is nice, I certainly don't have a strong need/want for it.

This. I was an iPhone user (6 and 6s plus) then switched to the Pixel 2. I love my new Max, but damn do I miss the always on display.

I have no desire to purchase a watch. Never wore them back in the day and I'm certainly not buying an electronic one today.

That's what I think I will miss the most from Android. Choices.

Do you or any of these other poster realize I hold no sway at apple?

You didn’t answer my question, if the iPhone had aod would you have gotten one three weeks after you got your note 9, or are you trying to validate your purchase?

I already have airpods and apple watches and a lot of iPhone users do too.

Didn’t know sheep’s could talk, must be an android thing.

Easy. It sucks up juice.
It “sucks up” about 1% “juice” per hour, if that...

I’m sure this of you really wanted to have a clock should have a stand alone clock for the task... it’s a phone... I want it **** off at night! End of store, if I need to have a clock, then I’ll buy one and put it next to my bed!
You sound like a Baby Boomer.

iPhone is in my pocket, muted. I bought the Watch BECAUSE I WANTED IT. (and it's STILL the same apple watch 2, not 3 or 4... no desire to upgrade it) I've noticed that with my Watch, my email piles up.. I rarely open the email on either my iPhone or mac. I see what it is as it's coming in... And move on. I don't open it unless it's something I actually need. and 99% of the time it's nothing special.
I have never missed a notification... And I don't check for them like a crack addict either. Both the watch and iPhone are muted, the vibrating alert is more than enough to notify me of an email, text, or call.
Since I do not do any social media, thats the only notifications I get. I haven't played a mobile game in years.. so no notifications there either begging me to play.

I have 1 airpod in an ear at a time, it's either music podcast or audiobook going while at work. iPhone is out of sight.

.

lol i have the phone that can do much more and is more useful. what is there to validate?

to your question, if apple added more features from android that were useful then absolutely i would consider the iphone again. i owned an iphone x before this.

you act like having the option of an AOD is somehow bad. news flash, choices are good! its 2018, what phone with an oled display shouldn't have the option of an AOD? just like its 2018, i'm glad apple is finally the last company to add stereo recording....

Stereo recording?! FFR think that is a pointless feature....wait you said the iPhone now has it? FFR think it's a great feature then.

I have a Apple Watch and a Gear S3 lol, Mainly due to some days I just love the idea of a round face watch with realistic style watch faces, and have thousands to chose from, all free. I also do like the AOD of the Gear S3, so I like to dabble with both watches.

All UI changes were pushed to iOS 13 so I would expect this to happen then. It would be a nice to have, but not any type of dealbreaker. I use my Apple Watch for notifications.

Is there a particular reason (other than flash light) you would want it on all the time , even when not looking?

I would think the only time it matters to be on is when you’re looking at it.

Personally I don’t think it is.
Your friend might benefit from an Apple Watch or AirPod, or not, regardless he can just ask siri without them by just asking his phone.

But if he never looks at his phone aod might not be as useful as some make it out to be.

Again I’m just responding to your friends use case.
Seeing a blinking green or blue led would get his attention if aod didnt. I love apple but notification led is so handy.

Uh huh.
Right. So if apple added aod, it wouldn’t make a difference to you, you would require additional features as well.

That’s what I thought.

Stereo recording?
No actually I switched it off in camera settings.
I don’t like stereo recording.

To much background noise.

But grumpy mom has been waiting for it, she must be ecstatic.

Enjoy them in good health.

No no wait, you can’t be an iPhone user....iPhone users don’t want apple watches or AirPods, we iPhone users only want aod...well according to some poster here.

Which in the course of a full day is 15 pct or so of total battery. I'd rather have 40 pct battery than 25 pct at the end the day in exchange for not being able to see the time on a locked phone.

AOD is free. An Apple Watch is several hundred dollars. I bought a watch on day 1 because I knew I needed it. If the iPhone had a notification led I may not have purchased it.

It’s one of those things you never knew you needed until you have it.

Because Apple Watch.
Call it greedy or whatever, but it is a valid business strategy to nudge customers into getting another product/accessory to enjoy certain level of convenience (aod is convenient, but not necessary).

I enjoy handsets with aod (Moto X, Galaxy A5), but it’s just a nice-to-have, and I don’t really miss them on my handsets that don’t have it (Mi A1)

I have my iPhone in my pocket or in my backpack at work ALL day... it only sees the light of day when I take it out to charge it at night really.
AOD would do nothing for me.. I don't work at a desk nor am I addicted to it. When I get home.. it's the MBP that gets 99% of the usage.

Can't speak for the other displays but Samsung's uses 2% TOTAL for me from 7am to midnight
