Anyone else think that the 10 billion apps graphic looks like it was created by a middle schooler who just learned how to use inner bevel in Photoshop? I've never seen an Apple graphic this gross looking. And the artifacts around the edges? Looks like it was done in two minutes in Photoshop using free transform.

I've had the counter running off their site for the last 3 days. I'm kind of mad that it never hit 10 Billion and yet it hit. I was gonna try and buy a few apps toward the end.

Who cares?

10 billion is just an arbitrary number. Heck my heart has beaten over 1.5 TRILLION times, actually GIVING ME LIFE, and nobody ever made a big deal out of it. And the 10 billionth download was for a FREE app. This is like handing out free candy on a street corner and then getting all excited after giving away the 10 billionth piece. Huh?

If I had won I would be buying every album on Itunes! Well now that I think about it maybe not every one of them because there is just some music I am just not that into. But definitely every album that I want. As well as every app. Man, I wish I had won!!

Well, I'll just say I think it's kind of bunk someone won off of a download for a FREE app when there are many of us here paying for them. That's just my 2 cents.

Apple could do better

Am I the only one who thinks Apple could do better than $10k for the 10 billionth download?

ok so can we please forget about apps now? I'm so sick of hearing about apps. Apps apps apps and more apps. Who cares!!

Wait like, a few years, and the app store will be stagnant.

PalmGear (formerly PilotGear for PalmPilots) was still going strong and adding lots of new apps to their app store for well over half a decade. Mainly a lawsuit brought them down. I don't see anyone suing Apple's iTunes Store out of existence, especially now that the Beatles are onboard.

I agree. I think iTunes and Apple are both very resilient and will stay strong for a very long time.

Simple maths says you're around 50,000 years old! I hope I'm in as good a condition as you when I hit the big 50k!

Really glad I didn't win. With a $10K gift card, I think I would max out at maybe $1000.00 worth of music and apps. After that the card would gather dust for a while.

And the really crappy part is, you would have paid $2500 cash in taxes for the privilege of spending that $1000. So now you're $1500+the value of what apps/music you wouldn't have bought normally, in the hole.

I'm also quite glad I didn't win.

Good, now I can start downloading apps again. I would never have bought applications for the amount of US tax I would have owed after winning this. Hope UK has better tax laws for this situation - an apple store credit for this amount would have been a different story :)

I don't believe we're taxed on competition winnings.

Ah heck you're right I misread the decimal - okay 1.5 billion. I guess that really isn't all that great afterall. :(
