What if Apple dropped this thing on purpose? Its hard to believe that they'd let someone remove this from their building! At first I thought this was fake but, now I think they're (Apple) toying with us!

It generates hype...and Apple loves hype! :apple:

Funny how the say its the New iPhone 4G and that they found it in some Bar in California, BUT, Why havent they turned it on? Why havent they shown pictures on the supposedly new iPhone 4G on? Until they do that, I believe its a fake, PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG!!!:D

Did you not read the article?

Read the article and look at the pictures dude, why would they disguise it in a black plastic 3G/3GS case if this wasn't the real thing?

B/C this is Apple we're talking about.

Gizmodo

Apple lost the phone on purpose .. i like the design and will see if iphone 4g, evo 4g, or hd2 is better.

because apple remotely shut down the phone...they saw it boot once and said it was running 4.0 OS before they made the announcement.

Did the pound sign give it away? :p

Hi,

It's called an Ampersand.

&

Anyway, I really like the look of this iPhone prototype. The squared off lines and glass/ceramic/plastic/whatever back are something I like.

I've been holding off on getting an iPhone but this design makes me think of the 12" PowerBook, which I also very much liked.

I'd buy one.

They DID turn it on of course.

It shows "connect to iTunes". It was remotely wiped by Apple.

I think if geohot can get his hands on it, we would be in business :D

If this is real, it could be a controlled leak. This is the biggest update to the iPhone since it was introduced. There was a story on how Apple kept the original iPhone so secret and apparently they leaked images, I don't think they accidentally left phones in a bar though. But hey, it could happen. It would be hilarious if Apple leaked this, all of the competitors make something identical to it and bam Apple comes out with the next iPhone that looks even better.

I think the design is great btw.

If this is supposed to compete with newer phones (Nexus, Evo) then why is the screen still the same size. Thanks for the pixels but how about a reduction on that bezel and a 4.2ish screen??

kinda dissapointed by the casing...but to be honest the casings got worse and worse ever since the aluminium 2g

this new case looks cheap and makes me rethink this gen

mmmh did u even bother to read the article on gizmodo? they clearly stated it got remote wiped by apple but does get recognized as a iPhone on iTunes

If you think Apple intentionally leaked an early design to get feedback, you have not followed Apple at all the past 15 years.

There is no way Steve Jobs wants an unfinished design out there, NO WAY AT ALL!

I agree intentional leaks have not been Apple's MO in the past, but the times they are a changing. Every week there is a new Android phone on the scene (Droid! Droid Incredible! Droid Super Duper Amazing! Droid Super Duper Amazing 2! Droid Limited Droid Edition!). How can Apple stick to its one-revision-per-year schedule and still keep up the iPhone buzz?

Intentional leaks.

I'm quite surprised at the amount of people saying this design is atypical of an Apple product. When you look at this side-by-side with the MacBook Pros, iMacs, and the iPad, I hardly find it radical - it seems perfectly in line to me with the aesthetics Apple seems to be adapting with the rest of their product line.

I've been an Apple user since I first used an Apple II in 1985 in 2nd grade. This is nothing like an Ive design but it is more than possible if you consider that Dieter Rams was Ive's favorite designer. Dieter Rams is one of my favorites as well.

That being said, it is a drastic change even when you go back to the original iMacs from Ive.

Yes the use of the round buttons is very much in Rams style, as are the more angular defined edges.

And like someone already mentioned, its a candy bar format phone, what more can you do to that style. (Now with .02mm more bevel!!!)

This may be the first iPhone I buy.

Multitasking, easier to hold, user replaceable battery, specs to better match competition, camera flash, and bigger internal storage.

Clearly Apple has to answer the Android rally, and it would be wise to give the people what they want.

AT&T is the last hurdle. I vowed never again to support their asses, and T-Mobile's customer service has kept me very happy over the last 4 years.

I didn't read all 14 pages of comments so it may have been mentioned but could this be a prototype component case? The outer case is made to come apart for easy access to the insides for possible hardware changes and to keep the final case design secret.

Yeah, it was mentioned.
Gizmodo points out that the internal components are very tightly packed and were obviously painstakingly designed to fit together that well. That implies to me that the overall size and shape of the final phone will be the same. But surface details/materials could change.

I personally like the buttons and shape. I don't like the seams. I hope the back is better than plastic.

Anyone who thinks this new iPhone is ugly may want to check out the new Droid Incredible for a little perspective:

*shudder*

Thinner

I for one like the fact it is much thinner, or appears that way from the comparison pictures.

One of the nicest things is being able to fit in pockets easily.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in SJ's office right about now. I bet he is throwing a freakin' fit right now.

I don't think you would.

Seriously: If it is thinner, if it is not rounded on the back, if the buttons are made of metal, it's all a step in the right direction. But the front-facing camera makes me shiver, the smaller SD-card means buying a new one and the design needs some time to get used to, it looks even bigger than before.

It's a micro-SIM slot apparently. Not an SD slot.

Apple are using these in their iPads.

Someone at Apple is going to loose their balls.

I still have to get use to the design and I was just starting to look forward to OS 4.0 for my 3GS. Would of loved to see the phone running.

One a side note, a lot off people are about to get sued from Apple. They destroyed private property, have not returned it to the rightful owners who have made aware and have expressed that they want the phone back. While this is the find of the year, it will only end in tears.
