Seems like they have borrowed quite a few design elements from old nokia phones.

It's not ugly, but i think it's a design that needs to grow on you..

But why the front facing camera? Who uses that anyways? Many manufacturers have skipped this because noone ever uses it..

Oh, and i'll probably get one :D

I LOVE the concept of front facing camera. The front facing camera will definitely open doors for the deaf community. I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a "relay" apps for the iPhone that will allow us order food at McDonald's without having to write anything down. We could use the app and sign to the interpreter what we need and that interpreter could voice our message. So many possibilities......

It gives the competition a two month head start to copy it. Two months in technology is significant, very significant.

Copy what?

A bigger camera lens? A flash? Split buttons? Metallic buttons? :D

Certainly, the front facing camera is no surprise.

psst... <whisper> The magic is in the software. </whisper>

Anybody else notice that the iPad in this leaked pic has a cutout in the top of it's "frame" which would allow for a camera to remain uncovered despite the fact that iPad didn't ship with one? Seems unnecessary to have that cutaway if they aren't testing a camera no?

Any chance this is both the Fourth Gen iPhone AND the Second Gen iPad pictured?

Yeah I guess if the 2nd gen ipad happened to be the same exact size of the 4th gen iphone :p

Things already exist in other industries - you call them. Why make an app when you can make slightly more money? Or - you could do it this say:

Create an app that does the ordering for you, and have it delivered to your location based on your GPS information, which you confirm.

fu** micro-sim.

don't they know it bloody hassel to change sim cards

Not really

I feel bad for the one who left this.. if in fact it was left..
Left... or sold. The ad revenue generated by 1.7 million hits (and counting) on Gizmodo's article page shouldn't be underestimated.

ARE YOU BLIND!?!?!?!?
It would appear so.

If you must compare it to any Sony Ericsson phone, at least use the M600i which is at least in the same ballpark in terms of proportions and usage of silver/black...

That, I'll be glad to explain you.

If you're normally composed, you will, like the vast majority of commenters at the time they were showed, liked these design immediatly:

That's it, that's the magic of design and you can tell who's a good designer from one who's not by the DIRECT impact he's able to have on a vast majority of people.

If a majority or a lot of people say it's ugly as ish for a product as important as the iPhone, then something is wrong. And that's why it's not likely to be the final product, which presentation is two month away in fact..

I could be unhappy with the Macbook Pro updates, but I like the design, I can piss on the iPad, and not really like the design, but I can't say it's ugly as well. Here, it's the case.

Sigh. Discounting the possibility that your designer friends are just bad designers (a possibility magnified by the fact that you seem to actually like the abominations you linked), my suspicion is that their sense of proportion is getting tricked by Gizmodo's perennially lame photography.

Giz likes to show off their equipment in every single shot, so you get this heavily in-your-face style with as little as possible in focus. Long story short, this makes the iPhone in these shots appear to be dramatically thicker than it really is.

Check the general opinion of users and designers once the Apple product photos come out.

I do like it.

Is the screen going to be 3.2''?
Hope not...:(
If so is this the Baby iPhone 4G and we are gong to have something else also...?

no matter what I want one .....

perfect....

Apple does not design by focus-group.
The group-think methodology does not work. Because the group has no mind.

Great design emerges from meeting these goals. Not by chasing the ill-developed aesthetic sense of fanboys, who would not know great design if it bit them on the bottom.

C.

You really think that a multi billion compagny who's most important product is the iPhone, simply follows theoric guidelines like a fool bachelor frog ?

As you may have seen, I do not give definition but straight fact: a lot of people on these boards and others, as well as "casual" people find this ugly as ish and are not excited about what's the most important upcoming Apple product. At this point something is wrong about the design.

And for the friends designer I know, who's experience and curicullum is great enough, it obvious it's ugly. I'm not talking abut correct or ok like the iPad, but ugly and as you said I'm not a genious speaking in the name of the group, I'm just the mirror of a lot of Iphone consumers who find this ugly.

Wasn't going for proportions really, just the frame around the side with the round side buttons. Since that's the phone I owned, that is the familiarity that struck a chord.

If the iPad and this iPhone both have micro-sim does that mean you could pay for iPhone data and use it on the iPad as well?

just like all the people who said this about the 3g case?

you guys really believe that ugly thing is the next iphone??

it's a chinese knock off.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that the Chinese can pull off completely disguising their knockoff as an iPhone. I don't mean visually...iTunes, xCode, they ALL recognize this device as an iPhone when it is plugged in. Apple works hard to make sure other companies can't trick their software like that. Some Chinese knockoff company just couldn't do it.

Not to mention that they wouldn't go to the trouble of labeling all their internal parts as Apple. Anyone smart enough to check that wouldn't be tricked by a knockoff in the first place.

WHERE are you getting these numbers from? "The internet" and the fact that you "can count" are hardly reliable sources. From what I'm seeing it's about 50/50 people who hate/love it. The haters are louder and more easily noticeable than the others. Just wait till June and everyone who is b****ing will be the same ones in line ready to buy.

How 60% (still a majority) is far from 50%, and how, when 50% of people say "it's ugly as ish" about the most important upcoming Apple product, is there nothing wrong ?
