This can also be accomplished via Exchange ActiveSync. When I lost my 3GS I remotely wiped it. But I'm sure Apple would use MobileMe as previously mentioned.

I think Gizmodo hinted at a future article...correct? Perhaps this will be the article where they show the internals. Perhaps they are holding this info back as they realize it might cross a line that would get them in trouble. Perhaps they are checking with their lawyers as we speak on exactly how far they can go.

It was remotely wiped

Yes, I understand that it was remotely wiped.

But, if you push the home screen button it should still pop up the "Plug into iTunes" screen.

Why no pictures of THAT?

They talk about how incredible the resolution of the new iPhone is - but there are no pictures of the new iPhone with the screen on?

if the final design has those gaps in the sides of the aluminum and that 1mm offset reveal between the aluminum and the front and back glass, someone take Jony Ive out back and shoot him.

However, if the final design doesn't have these two things and isn't such an abandonment of Apple's dedication to seamless design, someone give him a medal!
It's obvious to me that the alu sides are going to be UNIBODY.

It looks much better next to the 3GS, looks much slimmer. Im still not sure if I like the lack of flush and I cant really tell how rounded the edges are but other than that it looks great. Steve is probably pissed. Whoever lost this is in HELL right now.

Also this proves that steve did say at the keynote that the 3gs will support all features SHOWN TODAY, not all features period.

Probably.

I like the design, if the just remove the two seams (which I suspect they will) then it's perfect. Looks like a nice progression for the iPhone and I'll be glad to upgrade to it.
The seams are there for the symmetry. It opens on one side (battery access), and therefore there are fake seams on the other side, in corresponding spots.

Since the back side is now completely flush and can't open like the 3G/3GS did (no snap-on plastic back), the seams are necessary, or else there would be no way in -- the ceramic back is screwed on from the inside. It's not like they can use the iMac magnet solution for a portable device that gets tossed around.

Looks suspiciously like an ice cream sandwich...

iphone4g

If you look at it closely at the top and bottom it reminds you of the "iMac" so this could be the 4g iphone but we have about 1 or 2 months:) to go until we find out.

That, I'll be glad to explain you.

If you're normally composed, you will, like the vast majority of commenters at the time they were showed, liked these design immediatly:
etc..

Those designs are in fact all quite beautiful. But like with concept cars, the design will look different closer to production, due to material constraints, production constraints, patent constraints etc..

I'm willing to bet Ive made many a design like those in the pictures you posted, but the above mentioned constraints all resulted in the new iPhone. IMO it is an evolution of the previous model and in two or three years we will see another revision because design tastes change and production and material constraints are lessened due to innovation in production.

I really like this look!

And for some reason I keep getting flash backs of the nano 4G leak when reading this thread - maybe it's the constant "Apple would never do that" or maybe it's just stupid people being unable to realize that this design is awesome!

They already have removed a small gallery of tear-down pictures from their article. I imagine this was done either 1) to build suspense for the hinted-at article on internals or 2) at the urging of their lawyers while they examine legalities.

Personally, I hope we get the article on internals soon. But I would not be surprised if they try to milk this as long as they can. Hits are money, afterall, and I'm sure lots of people are currently refreshing their main page every 10 minutes.

As someone posted earlier, Gizmodo has not made any recent posts since their exclusive at 10:00am this morning. They are sitting on something else just as they have sat on this story for a week. The post will reach 2 million views any moment now and is raking them in alot in advertising. If there is more to the story, they will wait till the dust settles a little bit and start it all over again.

Only way I'll even consider this is if it comes to Verizon. I like the look of the 3GS I have now - I just hate the provider.

Funny thing is I bet you'd also hate the provider with Verizon if they had a bunch of iphones bogging down their network as well.

'Exactly'... Really?

Your definition of the word 'exactly' appears to be dramatically opposed to that of every other rational individual on earth.

keyword PLUM

it had the silver lining with dark plum front and back.

wohoo

I feel bad for the one who left this.. if in fact it was left..

I dout we will see anymore detailed pictures of the internal parts because if we know just these pics are out... Job's sure knows it's on macrumors and god save gizmodo if they post pics of anything else! Apple's legal team would skin them all alive....

That's sexy as hell. I hope the iPod touch gets upgraded as well - they can keep it behind in features by only adding one cam.

I love the new body style. Looks very sweet.

Anybody else notice that the iPad in this leaked pic has a cutout in the top of it's "frame" which would allow for a camera to remain uncovered despite the fact that iPad didn't ship with one? Seems unnecessary to have that cutaway if they aren't testing a camera no?

iphone4gipadproof2.jpg

Any chance this is both the Fourth Gen iPhone AND the Second Gen iPad pictured?

At first I didn't like the design based off of seeing just the pictures, but after seeing the gizmodo video I'm really digging the design :D

I think this article explains it pretty well:

http://www.macworld.com/article/150714/2010/04/iphone_4.html

I said earlier that I thought it was a knock off, but I take that back now. I think it's just as the article states. It's a test frame, designed to fit into a 3G S enclosure to make it look inconspicuous for real life testing. If anything it's nothing more than a prototype.

What IS interesting is that the prototype essentially holds most of the major wishes from a lot of us on the next version of the phone. Removable battery, ceramic back (multi-touch), front facing camera, better primary camera, flash, high resolution screen, noise canceling, increased storage (80GB? Wow).

I don't think it's realistic to assume all this will make it into the next version, but it's great that Apple is in fact listening and testing these options.

They could easily release the framework phone as is and sell a ton, but I expect to see this phone with some, or all, of its specs in a more Apple appropriate design.
