I bought an M1 Airbook and i have NEVER had such an unreliable computer in my entire life. I have been a devoted mac user since the 90's and owned all of their products from the first ibooks and mac books and this machine is a piece of sh*t!! the machine constantly stops working and i get black and purple scrambled pixels on the screen before it turns itself off randomly, every application unexpectedly quits, freezes or just doesnt respond, the trackpad has never worked properly and sometimes doesnt respond to tapping or selecting- the list goes on and on. After jobs died this company should have been shut down becuase the people running it have ruined everything that apple used to be known for. i am switching to chrome and windows after this experience.

This is something I see quite often on more recent models. I think it's got to do with applying too much pressure on the ”lid” such as when piling many MacBook's on top of each other in the IT department at a school or business or.

Maybe be more careful? :)
But I agree there should be some margin som this doesn't happen. Maybe better on newer models? Does it still happen on since Apple moved back to scissor switches for the keyboard on MacBooks? 🤔
There was actually a recall back in the day and they replaced the screen for free. Not sure if they improved it since. Kind of ridiculous buying a nearly 2k laptop and then having to make sure you place a soft mat between the display and the keyboard when you close it.

Reminds me of the 2011 MacBook Pro logic board issue, the solder couldn't keep up with the heat/cool cycles of the GPU and failed over time. They had a repair extension program which replaced the logic board with one that had... the same inherent fault.

Way, to, go.

No, not true, PC's are just fine. It amazes me how Apple fans will try and deflect issues with Macs by attacking PC's and Windows.
I am ON a PC I built myself running both windows and macOS - each for their strengths. From my experience, Windows is far more in your face and slows the system down as it’s constantly scanning office files, etc excessively (toggle the windows defender real time protection and compare the speed difference in saving larger PowerPoint files for example) Updates are forced as well (unless you make use of Shutup10). The OS also crashes way more compared to pre-catalina macOS versions even on a clean install. All it takes is a dodgy graphics driver update and the entire OS goes into a glitch fest.

For the record, i find non M1 Apple Macs to be terrible value. Aside from all those keyboard issues, the inability to upgrade down the line or having to pay $200 for just an additional 8gb ram/256 GB SSD is nonsense. That being said, if it was a choice between HP,etc and Apple? I’d probably go apple. The hardware that goes into these things is so bottom of the barrel. The HP/dell desktops (mid end) in our house had numerous cooling issues requiring me to swap out the CPU cooler and drill extra holes in the case to install an intake fan. With apple, at least they (pretend) to help the customer with things like extended keyboard replacement programs. WIth other companies, you’re SOL once that warranty expires.

Fortunately, a hackintosh allows me to get higher quality parts with the flexibility of a PC and the stability of macOS Mojave.

another typical apple fan.... unless if you use HDD ..there is no slowdown of the windows compared to macos...

you are talking about m1?
sorry.. I dont want to buy a soldered laptop a.k.a Smartphone for $900 dollar... with no upgrade path..
apple knows it is money grab.. people like you are the reasons apple gets away with it

did you even read my post? Do you even know what a hackintosh is? That’s a PC running macOS. I pretty much said the exact same thing you’re complaining about. I never had a M1 mac so cant say anything about it.

Bruh, take a breath. What you are experiencing is not normal behavior. Luckily, your machine is not yet a year old and is still under warranty. Take it in to Apple or get them on the phone. They should agree to replace it or, at the very least, replace the logic board.

Not only that... Apple had very strict requirements for what units qualified for the program. The device had to pass a test that Apple claimed was designed to identify the problem. If the device didn't pass, couldn't run the program (even though it exhibited the same graphic symptoms) or boot at all, then it didn't qualify.

That significantly reduced the number of effected units that qualified for the repair program.

Very true Apple was particularly unfair to the customer in the case of the 2011 15" Radeon dGPU failures. Deliberately ignoring the issue for several years. When the discrete graphics processor fails there is a fair chance the MBP will simply not boot as that's how they are designed at a hardware level. No test, no warranty repair...

If you were lucky your Mac would only suffer a partial failure of the dGPU and could be tested. Worse Apple only replaced failed Logic Boards with refurbished boards with the same flawed dGPU that frequently failed in a matter of months. The reworking was likely not conducted to a high enough standard and the chip was inherently flawed in the first palace.

The same applies to all portable Mac's afflicted with the Butterfly Keyboard, with the replacements being flawed by design. Same as the 2011 15" MBP once Apple fulfils it's minimum legal obligation it will wash it's hands of the issue leaving the cost of any subsequent repair to be born by the customer. Frankly until a court of law instructs Apple to either fully refund & compensate it's customers or replace knowingly flawed product with one fit for purpose Apple and many others will continue with such anti consumer tactics.

As said Apple walks & talks in very differing directions, the hubris is palpable...

There’s a difference between the screen cracking whilst opening it during normal usage, and surviving being run over. One means the device is not fit for purpose, the other doesn’t. Grow up.

Wow. Feeling old. That was 10 years ago.

How many times will Apple say “few” when they finally comment?

Apple has a history of making flawed products, as well as a history of ignoring those problems until they reach a critical mass. They take far too long to admit it isn’t a customer issue, angering those affected and squandering their good will to correct the matter outside of the courts.

As long as people keep spending, nothing will change. Apple knows this all too well...

It should be relatively well known by now that buying a first-gen item made by apple is for the adventurous. I don't know how apple performs its hardware and software testing but it looks like part of it is "outsourced" to the early adopters...
Don't say that, I bought an M1 Air. This is the first new purchase of an Apple product that I have made in quite awhile. I usually wait awhile before buying from Apple just in case... I decided to pull the trigger just a few weeks ago. Hoping for the best. If this fails, I'll go back to buying refurbished on eBay.

Just use PCs for one month and you will kneel before Apple. I’m an IT and works with hundreds of PCs.. they are totally crap, realibility is a joke other than quality and screen specs. MacBooks have the best screen I’ve ever used and I also work in Apple support as freelance: no issue with M1, everybody is so happy with these machines that is incredible.

Have you every used a PC in your life?
Why people keep posting nonsense like this.
Dollar to dollar, quality of Win laptops is pretty awesome.
I bet you defended fusion drive in 2020 or something.
It's clear here you literally have no idea what you are talking about.

Also that highlighted part makes your point completely false. Just read the title of the article referenced in this thread to see why. lmao.

If you are having issues with crashing, then there is something wrong with your setup...full stop. Perhaps you need to take a look at what drivers you are using. These sorts of issues can come up when you build yourself. I run several machines Windows, Mac, and Linux. None of them are crashing or slowing down or going into a "Glitch fest".

Perhaps you should return it and request a new one. It seems as if it might be defective. I haven't had any issues yet, but then it only gets light use.

if you are comparing that windows is slow compared to intel macs ... then you are horribly wrong...for macintosh?..thats hit or miss

your m1 battery backup under normal usage?
I am not sure of your question. The battery usually lasts about 8 hours, but that is just an estimate. I have never run it all the way down. I tend to keep my devices charged up. Still when I do take it out, I can go all day using it, powering it down when not in use.

Yeah, for that wake from sleep crash issue, it was a AMD driver update (used to work fine before). DDU'd it to the previous version and no more issues. I had similar driver issues with prebuilts of family/friends too and takes a bit of juggling driver versions.

Again, none of these things are end of the world type of things but still takes a bit of time to fire up a clean install of windows on a spare SSD, and goes through the troubleshooting motions.

When you build yourself, or even buy, and you have a stable install. The best thing to do is turn off driver updates. You can do this in settings. There really is no need to update drivers that are working unless they address an issue you have. I get frequent inquiries from NVidia. I just ignore them. Everything is working, and that is all I need.

Do some people feel that the only way to force a company to address an issue is to file a lawsuit? That's a pessimistic view on the world, I think... going around looking for negative things to focus on.

Do these same people publicly recognize and acknowledge the positive aspects of this amazing technology that we are enjoying day-to-day?

False advertising? BS.

I feel like Apple has quite a lot of issues with their MacBook lines in general. I remember all the way back in 2012, when the trackpad and keyboard would leave scratches all over the display coating. Will be interesting to be the Guinea pig with the 14 inch
Apple has quality control issues in general under Tim Cook.
