I'm sticking with my Intel Macs.

I'm real excited about Windows 11. I think this is gonna be a game changer for Microsoft.

Loosing the ability to run bootcamp or virtualization of Windows keeps me out of owning an APPLE silicon Mac.

So The M1 may be a little faster or even with a Core i9. No big deal to me.

My machines are repairable and upgradable.
Cool story bro.
literally has nothing to do with this post though…

knock on wood my M1 MacBook Air display is okay so far. However, I do hope Apple will do the right thing and start a repair/recall program to fix the defect.
I have the M1 Pro. Is it also affected?

It seems everytime Apple tries to do the right thing with a new product, something new gets added to the higher rung to go after.. in a future lawsuit

But this??...... Its like someones actually reached heaven ..lol "While we're at it, we may as well do the whole 'kit and caboodle.'"

Can't complain though.. I mean why bother with separate lawsuits, when you can roll it all up in one anyway. I'm guessing everyone just got sick to death.

Just use PCs for one month and you will kneel before Apple. I’m an IT and works with hundreds of PCs.. they are totally crap, realibility is a joke other than quality and screen specs. MacBooks have the best screen I’ve ever used and I also work in Apple support as freelance: no issue with M1, everybody is so happy with these machines that is incredible.
Can't take you seriously. Imagine calling PC's "crap" in an article about yet another Macbook defect.

Yeah this is true. it's gotten a tiny bit better but PCs are a nightmare. Even the updates themselves are so intrusive. Heck even on my hackintosh, windows runs with so many issues/random blue screens/wake from sleep. Meanwhile, macOS Mojave runs super stable.

That being said, macbooks seem to have more issues these days. the 15" lines were even more so glitchy starting with the 2008 era
No, not true, PC's are just fine. It amazes me how Apple fans will try and deflect issues with Macs by attacking PC's and Windows.

I've never had a PC that would last me more than 3 years. I got 10 years out of my first MacBook Pro, I have a MacBook 2016 still working great, and my iMac is from 2013, and while it still runs great, I may replace it with a new one to be able to run Monterey and be able to run the latest version of Xcode on it.
I may keep using it as a second monitor/server.
Perhaps you should have purchased better PCs. I have a 15-year-old HP that is still going strong with Windows 10. All of you Apple fans are so predictable. This is the same road that you were on when the keyboard issue surfaced. Apple fans tried to play it down, blamed the users, defended Apple, attacked Windows, (Windows had nothing to do with it) etc. Then three class action lawsuits and negative reviews later and all the Apple apologists went silent. The same thing when Flex Gate appeared. Blame the users, defend Apple, attack PC's, claim that people are just picking on Apple... Then comes the repair program. Maybe you should wait a bit before going through the same rinse repeat.

I bought a M1 MBP in June '21 on Amazon Prime Day, ~$849 with discounts and trade in.

No display issues, but then I don't use mine as a frisbee or hold it by the screen.

Lots of people have 27" iMacs with no debris under their displays, but then I guess they were the only ones that didn't use them as air filters right?

Had a m1 MacBook Air screen crack for no reason that had been kept on a table. No misuse, no ‘stuff’ on the keyboard that could sit between the keyboard and screen when closed. Just cracked while being opened, and can 100% guarantee it is down to some design or manufacturing fault. Apple refused to repair it under warranty and wanted over £500 for it. I ultimately got the retailer to repair it for free as it wasn’t fit for purpose, but it was a lot of aggravation.

Apple has been shameful in their dealings with this issue. There are huge threads on their own forums with people with the exact same issues with the m1 models and have been treated in the same disgusting way by Apple. I certainly won’t buy another Apple laptop after this.

Are these issues really widespread? I’m actually asking because it’s legit my first time ever hearing about this

Wouldn't it be funny if Apple lawyers asked all the macbook users in the class action to show them how they open and closed their macbook and when closed, how they held it and then showed them the user manual showing them they are all doing it wrong and the judge goes 'case dismissed' lol

Joking aside, one thing that was mentioned was thermal issues affecting the lcds. Changes in temperature, not just from the machine but all around us, we know that when changes in temperature occur, materials do expand and contract, even when the temperature are minute, expand and contraction can occur. Now, if the way the display assembly is made in that the LCD and glass panel is compressed hard against the lcd cover, it is very possible that changes in temperature could be causing the LCD panel to expand and contract against the glass and overtime this weakens the glass and breaks it.

Now Apple could negate this possibilty by proving that the same manufacturing assembly methods for the M1 displays are the same for another macbook model and that model has had no problems with it's LCD displays. If Apple could prove this that it would show that the damage of the LCD's has to be caused by handling.

Will be interesting to see where this goes.

I've been on the wrong end of an expensive fix for what was an obvious design flaw, similar reports all over the internet of the exact same issue ("dusty screen" for earlier 27" iMacs). It really sucks paying for something that was 100% out of your control.

Same here. 21.5" iMac used in a perfectly clean environment.

Not suggesting Apple is at fault in this instance, however Apple does very much walk and talk in different directions. On numerous occasions Apple has blatantly disregarded & ignored it's customers knowingly selling defective products and clearly see's repair as a revenue stream.

Apple's manta is very simple in the case of design & production defects; sway & deflect it's customers & fans via influencers to whip up the outrage, stall, wait as long as possible. Finally relenting in the face of indefensible legal action, then only to present the cheapest alternative for Apple not the best for the customer by generally replacing the defective device/module/component with the same defective item until Apple no longer has any legal obligation.

As for M1 Air/MBP personally I don't see a significant uptick on forums of displays cracking. My own M1 MBP I'm conscious to open & close the display at the centre as I would with any thin & light notebook nor handle roughly, equally all should be fit for purpose.

The best thing Apple sells by far is Apple with it's cleverly engineered image, marketing and well organised evangelists...

Q-6

We picked up the M1 with a clamshell case, and it is a FLAWLESS machine for me... except for the short travel on the keys. I really miss the old keyboard. It's just not the same. I would only trade this in for something that fixes that

I've been burned by Apple in the past. What else is new?
Same, my iPad Pro broke out of the blue (same issue as the iPad Air (3rd generation) Blank Screen, where there is a replacement program). The genius told me, b/c the iPad wasn't turning on that my iPad might've been frankensteined out of 3 devices, accused me of breaking the USB-C charging port b/c there is wear and tear around the port.

The second genius the day after I went, denied me running a diagnostics, but I cant do it with the chat/telephone support when the iPad is hooked up to a TV.

This is disgusting behavior for a $1300 device.

I have another appointment with a manager on Saturday. I hope they will give me a discount or something else for a repair since it is out of warranty.

It should be relatively well known by now that buying a first-gen item made by apple is for the adventurous. I don't know how apple performs its hardware and software testing but it looks like part of it is "outsourced" to the early adopters...

The frontline geniuses are not really much more than customer service. When Apple started the program the ‘geniuses’ were smart and paid well. Over time, their pay was slashed and they became mostly script following tech support. The ‘brains’ are in higher tiered support.

This proves what I thought. They don't even fix iPads in the store and I was like "???". For what am I driving here then, when you guys don't offer immediate support.
The first genius wanted to sell me a new iPad Pro with free AirPods so badly, after I told him I need this iPad for university.
After the second time I told him that I was not gonna buy a new iPad Pro or getting free AirPods, since I purchased a M1 MBP in March and already have AirPods Pros. He wasn't bothered and tried it a third time.
The rating I left was really bad, thats why the manager called to make an appointment with me. If this visit is bad they will get another bad rating, and it might go to even higher ups. I love Apple, but I also hate Apple.

It’s not first gen anything, same case etc as the intels before it.

Another lawsuit regarding Macbooks!!! Lost count!! Would like to see how this lawsuit pans out

I really think this will boil down to user error. I cringe when I see most people adjust a laptop display. They grab an upper corner and push or pull, and the whole lid will flex and twist as they do it. Also, I have seen some people slip a laptop into a sleeve and proceed to wedge it by force into a bag or backpack busting at the seams to make it fit. Usually I am amazed that these computers don't break, but the macbook air is all about being thin and light, and that simply has to come with some compromise. Sensitive electronics should be used with care. The durability of phones has made people think technology should always be indestructible. Take a look a the the bricks the military uses. That's what indestructible looks like. You don't get "thin as a magazine" and "lighter than a feather" combined with "able to be run over by a truck and still survive".

I feel like Apple has quite a lot of issues with their MacBook lines in general. I remember all the way back in 2012, when the trackpad and keyboard would leave scratches all over the display coating. Will be interesting to be the Guinea pig with the 14 inch
This is something I see quite often on more recent models. I think it's got to do with applying too much pressure on the ”lid” such as when piling many MacBook's on top of each other in the IT department at a school or business or.

Maybe be more careful? :)
But I agree there should be some margin som this doesn't happen. Maybe better on newer models? Does it still happen on since Apple moved back to scissor switches for the keyboard on MacBooks? 🤔
