What this person did may be wrong in court of law but if this person DID NOT leak secret infos to media and to us in some extend we would’ve nothing to read every morning. So we say thank you for the infos but wrong is wrong regardless how you see it..there will always be more employees stealing infos from their bosses. That’s fact of society.

What does it mean that he "deepened" his relationship with the media contact? I suppose if FBI agents and Senate Staffers can sleep with journalists and leak to them, this guy would too.

Carl Snowden is NOT a martyr!

I’m pretty sure this guy wasn’t alone. Leaks will still be released and you’ll know
About everything ahead of time as usual

I bet Apple will make an example out of him. Regardless of what you think of Apple, nobody should steal (let alone distribute) trade secrets and/or confidential materials from their employer. It's simply not worth getting sued for every penny you own, going to jail, or both. Obviously, it's also very unethical.
No, on the contrary I (and most people here at Macrumors including the editors who need the content to write articles) think it is extremely FUN to leak rumors and build hype. You know, this whole site relies on these rumors for survival

Did you mean Edward Snowden? Watch the 2016 film Snowden and you might see why he did what he did.
No, he meant Carl. He was quite jealous of his "brother", Ed, so he went out selling information he found on a CD and tried to sell it to the Russians.

Oh wait ... that's "Burn After Reading". My bad ...

I don't need to. When I started in the Intel community, I signed NDAs that acknowledge that I could face a death penalty should I ever violate my trust. Edward AGREED to his conditions yet violated his trust.

He is nothing more than worthless .

now that’s news!

intel makes people sign an nda with death penalty as punishment‽

edit: i mistook intel for Intel

i still think that’s insane but not quite the effect i suppose

He/she said while visiting a website that publishes said leaks. Anyway, we're talking about revealing earlier that a company will be putting a product on the market. I understand that Apple will protect itself, that this person stole proprietary information and will likely face the consequences.

But hoping a person goes to jail for a long time and pays heavy fines because they stole from their coworkers the "joy of being part of an Apple launch?!" That's a bit much of the Kool Aid. No person actually got hurt here, so shall we just dial it down a notch?
To be fair, there’s also the conflict of interest. “I’ll give you Apple confidential data in exchange for favorable press for this startup I stand to benefit financially from if it receives positive press”. That’s basically bribery, isn’t it?

Proof right here that NOBODY'S iPhone is encrypted in such a way that it's impenetrable. Apple can read what's on them and what was in them - if they want to

"Further, forensic review of the devices Apple provided to Lancaster for his work at Apple shows Lancaster and the Correspondent.."
If it were a company device, it was very likely a managed device, with Apple doing the device management. The two are not equivalent. A managed device lets the manager have significantly greater access to the device, which is part of the reason for the hubbub over the parental control software last year or the year before that put the devices under MDM. MDM is like having the admin password on an encrypted OpenBSD box. Doesn’t matter if it’s encrypted and super secure if you literally have the decryption key in your possession.

Appleinsider had a bit more

Breaking a NDA can have serious consequences
Tell that to all the Manning and Snowden advocates. Snowden became famous and made who knows how much money of books etc and Manning got a gender change operation paid for by the US Gov't and tax payers. Serious consequences indeed.

Edward Snowden ruined his life so we would all learn of the illegal actions of our government. He's a hero, and should be pardoned.

It’s intel as in intelligence, not Intel as in processors!

Re: Snowden, the problem with the intelligence community is the lack of oversight. There’s no accountability when intelligence violates the rights of US citizens under the Constitution when citizens don’t know their rights have been violated. You could even argue that one’s oath to uphold the Constitution necessitated leaking the info and that to refrain from doing so would be treasonous. This really isn’t the same thing.

Pretty hypocritical of you guys for making fun of this guy on this forum. This is a rumors website... You and this website created the demand and are the consumers of his "stolen" goods.

Like a crack addict making fun of his drug dealer when the dealer gets busted.

Wow, that's quite an accusation. I come here for legally acquired rumors. There are lots of ways to get insight into Apple's plans without violating the law or contracts.

That's like saying "because you read the news, you create demand for information obtained from hacking cell phones, so don't say anything negative about people hacking phones ".

Good thing he lives in the US. Apple makes sure those in other countries are dealt with...

I would respectively disagree. He is a hero to me because he risked his life to expose government lies and deceit. The Director of the NSA sat before Congress and told lies under oath when he said the NSA did not spy on Americans. When you can’t trust the government you need brave citizens to stand up and expose them.
