...then some people in here, take it to Apple and they want $350 to repair.

I'm sure there are many on this forum that would say quit the whining, Apple's fabulous customer relations is only charging you half of what a "new" one would cost - just be happy.

Many?

The bad news, is that Apple replaced your phone with a refurbished one and maybe will give you different issues... also Apple limits its replaced phones with a 3 months warranty.

Apple Refurbished products are excellent and come with all the warranty rights that your previous phone did.

In the case of the person you were responding to, his/her phone was replaced out of warranty which is brilliant customer service.

Hhhmm, a software upgrade that makes it look like a hardware failure or actually causes a hardware failure, then some people in here, take it to Apple and they want $350 to repair. First the software update that limits CPU ability because of a so call bad battery and now this. What's next, software this disables the screen/video. Looks too much like force upgrade. I know it's probably not, but damn, get it together Apple.

Apple replaced my out of warranty 7+ for free; no forced upgrading.

If anything goes wrong with an out of warranty Apple device in my family, I’m sending you in on our behalf . . .

Well 11.3 got me a new refurbished phone to replace the year old used phone so I'm glad for the update.
[doublepost=1525874356][/doublepost]update on my IPhone 7 Plus 128 GB, I went to the Apple store yesterday for the mic not working. They restored my IPhone again after it failed diagnostic, I had tried twice to restore it at home. My IPhone was working fine when I got there to the store, just no mic. After the store restored my IPhone to factory settings it was bricked. The antenna would not pick up WiFi or the carriers signal. Initially they said $350 to repair. Then they offered to give me $300 for my old IPhone on an upgrade. AT&T, for some reason said I couldn't use my upgrade. ( I haven't called them yet to see why, I have an upgrade available on another line) SO the Apple store gave me a IPhone 7 Plus 128 GB just like I had free of charge. I walked out a happy man.

So, first it was 350 to fix, then it was 300 for your phone, but upgrade (still cost you 400+ for new phone), but AT&T declined your upgrade, then magically, they offered you a free iPhone 7 for free. You see, they could have just offered you the free iPhone, yet, they tried to get MONEY out of you, for something THEY DID.

Apple has acknowledged a microphone issue affecting a limited number of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models running iOS 11.3 or later.

iphone-7-call-800x436.jpg

In an internal document distributed to Apple Authorized Service Providers this week, obtained by MacRumors, Apple said affected customers may experience a grayed-out speaker button during phone calls. The issue may also prevent affected customers from being heard during phone calls or FaceTime video chats.

Apple Authorized Service Providers have been instructed to first ask customers to disconnect or power off any Bluetooth headsets or other audio accessories connected to their iPhone to see if that alleviates the problem.

If the speaker button remains grayed out during a call, the service providers have been instructed to run audio diagnostics. Affected devices will display a "device could not detect dock" or "accessory not supported" alert in the diagnostic pane, in which case the service provider can initiate a repair for the iPhone.

If an affected iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus is no longer covered by warranty, Apple says its service providers can request an exception for this particular issue. Apple's document does not specify if the repairs will be completed free of charge, but it seems likely given the circumstances.

While this does not appear to be a widespread problem, there are have been some complaints about microphone issues on iOS 11.3 scattered across MacRumors, Reddit, Twitter, and the Apple Support Communities in recent months.

It's unclear why iOS 11.3 and subsequent software versions are unintentionally disabling microphones on some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus units. Apple mentions that some of the devices may require a repair, suggesting the software update could somehow be causing a hardware defect, but information is lacking.

Affected customers can schedule an appointment with an Apple Authorized Service Provider or with the Genius Bar at an Apple Store via the Contact Apple Support page: iPhone -> Repairs & Physical Damage -> Unable to Hear Through Receiver or Speakers -> Built-in Speaker -> Bring In For Repair.

Apple has not confirmed this issue publicly, but MacRumors has verified the document's authenticity with a reliable source. However, outside of our control, some Apple employees may be unaware of or deny the information. In that event, we recommend escalating your case to a senior AppleCare advisor if possible.

MacRumors has reached out to Apple for clarity on this issue. If and when we hear back, we'll update this article.

[doublepost=1525957662][/doublepost]Right folks hope this might help some of you. My sons iPhone 7 has developed the exact same problem. No sound in calls either way, speaker button greyed out and this occurred after updating to IOS 11.31 and connecting to his blutooth speaker. Rang my local authorised repairer who denied any knowledge of this leaked document.
I then decided to go on to the apple support live chat. They then tried to take me down the, connect to a PC and restore route. Told them i'd already done this. He then said hold on whilst i do some research. I then typed that I also had done some research, and copied and pasted the contents of this article.
after a few moments, with no quibble, they booked me an appointment for repair at no cost, issued an exception to the warranty and wished me a good day.
The power of the internet :)

The closest apple store is 68 miles from here. There is a best buy but is not showing up as available for bring your device. However, it's an authorized apple repair center.

My wife's 7 has this issue, after update and pairing with car Bluetooth (didn't happen overnight). My 7+ is OK and is paired to the same devices.

I restored and erased several times, including DFU restore. Anything else I can do? This is frustrating and I don't have the time to go fix this. Is it a hardware issue?

Call Apple, you might be able to get them to mail you the replacement and then you send yours in. Its a software and hardware issue; 11.3 has an issue with the hardware in some iPhones. You can argue that your phone is unusable due to Apple's update which they don't a provide a way of reversing. Its not purely software since it doesn't affect all iPhones.

Okay, so that didn't go well. Took the phone to the third party authorised dealer. They had it for 3 days before ringing me and saying that they had put it down to dust in the speaker, so classed it as damage by me and were unable to fix the issue. They acknowledged that this wouldn't cause the problems and that it was probably an IOS issue, but their hands were tied. I'm fuming !!! so back onto apple live chat to try again:mad:

I just upgraded my 4 month old product red 256GB 7+ from 11.1.2 to 11.3.1 and everything is working great. I was so worried I would experience this problem.

Call Apple support and see if they can run the diagnostic remotely; what it does is test the audio components and that is what fails. It is literally a five minute process.

I recontacted Apple who acknowledged that it is a hardware issue
I've arranged to take it to my nearest Apple store tomorrow, which is an hour and a half drive away
I will update with the outcome

I had this problem with an iPhone 7, during phone calls the speaker and microphone both stopped working. I took the phone to an apple store in California and after about 30 minutes of diagnostics, I walked away with a refurbished phone. Based on the email receipt provided to me, the resolution to my problem was... "Swap device under Apple quality program (CS)." Great customer service for a phone out of warranty.

It was worth the drive. After only 5 minutes in the apple store, metro centre, Newcastle I was handed a refurbished iPhone 7,free of charge. I was told by staff that more and more people are coming forward with the problem Apple know its as a result of the ios update but they dont know why yet.
My advice to anyone with this problem is contact Apple via live chat. Get and extention to warranty and then take your phone into your nearest Apple store .Do not take your phone to an authorised 3rd party repairer They do not have the authority to give you a replacement phone.!!!

My 7 Plus bought in November 2017 doesn't play the voicemail ringtone unless the phone is raised or some other input is made. Its on 11.1. I wonder is this related to some other mic issues?
