bye bye eddy.
hello mr. (future, in-waiting, next in line, CEO) craig.
[doublepost=1504318106][/doublepost]
Other than building Services into a $30B/yr highly profitable juggernaut, nothing really

serious question (because I don't understand the line clearly drawn between responsibilities) :
apple music: was that iTunes/Music or the iCloud team? creating apple music was brilliant. really apple was forced to do so by where the on-line market was also true, but anyway, it worked (eventually). streaming ability and able to download whatever you want for a monthly affordable subscription price, which actually (now) works across all devices. brilliant.
but was this eddy or another division's efforts? putting it together with the music content companies was eddy's. but that effort was slow and late i think. allowing Spotify to intensify its global lead.
iCloud services on the other hand is really useful and delivering real benefits to all of us.

It says Cue was responsible for the iTunes Store and Apple Maps software.

The iTunes store, where it is next to impossible to find anything (horrible search functions), and Apple Maps, where it was badly implemented from the start.

I think Craig has a better track record.

I hate the iTunes 12 store search function. Half the time it'll either can't find something that is actually in the store, or it'll think I'm checking my library, and vice versa. I think iOS 10 and 11 were the last great versions (11 once I figured out how to change it from the old layout). When I search the iTunes Store, most of the time it's easier just to use my phone or iPad.

Siri is a hot mess.... definitely needed. When even Bixby, a fairly new AI does better......that's a major problem.

Eddie is wasting time and money with crappy shows no one's gonna watch instead of actually making compelling services.
I can pretty much guarantee the shows will be successful. People on Macrumors who complain about everything non-computers related are an extremely tiny majority of the apple fanbase.

So you think Timmy is fit for Apple because that's all you see from the media and public. Federighi is fun to watch during keynotes but that doesn't cancels out Cue what he brought to Apple. Who knows what he's been throwing to Apple's table besides he made that far in his position if he's not fit for Apple.
Tim is a better fit, but is argue he's in the wrong job.

Eddie is Apple's equivalent of the embarrassing uncle. Might have been cool once, but is now more regularly the inappropriate buffoon at the Christmas dinner.

Thank GOD !
Now delegate the rest of his responsibilities to other qualified individuals and put end to the convoluted Cue era.
A Chain is as strong as its weakest link.

I can only judge Eddie on his stage performance, but his nearly always been embarrassing. Almost everyone else comes out and speaks (sometimes nervously) but like they have put some effort into what they will talk about. Eddie usually looks sloppy and talks like he decided to just wing-it with what he'll talk about except x product/service.

In all the years I still think I’ve only ever used Siri to to try and make it say something funny.

Does that mean Siri is a joke? I heard it relies on Bing for web searches so no wonder it’s crap.

Bing? Bing? The Hotmail of search engines. Apple should just hand the map and search keys over to Google. Maybe Craig will realize this and Siri will just use Google. But I'm not a Chrome fan, for sure.

Maps is much improved. I use it as my default.

When I have time, I will test both Google and Apple Maps for directions. I do this before I start driving (or less frequently, walking) to the destination. First I see how hard it is to type/talk the search request. Google usually wins this, they seem to have a wider range of questions that they understand. Then I look at the selected route. Frequently, very, very frequently, the two pick the same route. When they don't I will pick one and see how easy and fast the one I chose is. Google had a large advantage with traffic monitoring, for accidents, slowdowns and the like, but this advantage is diminishing. In situations where one could find an implicit address that the other could not I had better luck with Apple Maps, but that could be based upon where I live and usually travel. A different region it might be Google.

If I'm in a hurry and can't stop to do my searching, I use Apple because Siri can't be programmed to pick a different map, I'm in a hurry, and Apple Maps is the only choice unless I want to pull over to do a search. I imagine Android phones are similarly locked in, but I don't know this.

Eddy Cue is Apple's Steve Balmer. A brash, arrogant idiot. He's made a complete mess of the iTunes Store, iCloud, iWork and iLife. Why he hasn't been fired is beyond me.

How can you guarantee that? I've not heard a single person say they are excited for planet of the apps or carpool karaoke. At best I'd peruse a youtube highlight of it when extremely drunk and forget how to enter my netflix or hbo password.

So its useless in 21 languages then. :p

The services are tied to the hardware. You know like the iPhone that regularly sells 50 million units a quarter.

I'd be very surprised if the vast majority of Apples services revenue didn't come via commission on other peoples work from the App Store and from iTunes content sales. Not because Siri, iCloud and Apple Music are great and lots of people are paying for them.

Well, hope you are sitting down as you get ready to be surprised.

First, since "services" is when Apple and other companies sell you a service, not products that they have produced, so you shouldn't be surprised that their world leading App Store and iTunes store don't primarily involve their own products, but rather are providing you the service of buying "other people's work." Just like Tim Cook didn't compose the music on Apple Music, but Apple is providing you the service of listening to other people's work.

You also don't have to guess about Apple Music's success as Apple releases those stats for you. Apple Music went from nothing to the number two music streaming service in the world in under two years. So, when you say you would be surprised if lots of people were paying for Apple Music, around 35 million people would chuckle.

Hopefully, you are still sitting, as you said you'd be surprised if many people were paying for iCloud. Well, over a year and half ago though there are many options for folks to choose from, last year iCloud had almost 800 million users., and anyone who needs more than 5gb, which is almost everyone, is paying at least a buck a month. Yowser!
