You make it sound like I sit occasionally on my MacBook Pro on purpose .

argumentative and disingenuous ? Rich coming from you. You stated you could easily bend a 2017 MacBook Pro .

Kudos for your debating style , play victim.

Don’t use disingenuous/intentionally if you don’t understand their meaning , as it was you that replied to my post. I was talking about durability by design .

How about taking the personal jibes out ;) I’ve read your posts , you are able to comprehend what the user posts, but use the “disingenuous” word a lot, like it carries some intellectual status .
"Clearly not understanding" is not a personal jibe? Just asking.

My father's 12.9 2018 pro has bent. He doesn't use it any differently than his prior iPads and isn't a power user. It is noticeable and it is visible

Not everyone has experienced this but when you do and you spent so much money on the thing you don't expect it to bend mere weeks after its launched.

The crazy thing is he uses a case!

Ultimately, and thankfully, this is a Nonissue for us as the local Apple store will swap it out at no charge when they get replacements in stock, though this may also be due to Apple Care plus.

This thread is such bunk. People are discussing two different things.

1.) Bends out of the box. This is what the article is about, and yet misleadingly includes an iPad picture from a user that had it in his backpack for a week while he was traveling.

2.) Bends AFTER being used. That’s what people seem to be mostly upset about. Apple has never said these huge bends are normal. They’re saying the microscopic bends during manufacturing are. People here seem to be equating their damaged iPads from use with Apple’s statement on microscopic bends.

Honestly, it’s bewildering. Nobody has posted any pictures of their out-of-the-box iPad showing any significant bend.

And no, I’m not defending Apple. These new iPads may well bend from usage more easily.

Since they are blaming this on a process exclusive to the cellular models, I would like to know- has anyone had or seen a bent WiFi model? If so, this would confirm that it is a BS excuse. Even if it isn’t, then they should have scrapped this new process to form the antenna bands when they saw the bending was happening during testing. If this is true, it is a design and manufacturing fault that should never have been approved. Either way, completely unacceptable for a company that prides itself on getting small details right and charging so much for premium products. Remember, Apple “doesn’t ship junk,” as so appropriately stated by Steve Jobs.

It’s really confusing because at first they said it’s bent, but microscopically, so you shouldn’t be able to see it. Now they’re saying it looks bent only because of the antenna lines. So it’s bent or not?

*when you search for validation of a product you bought that's way too expensive and suddenly all articles on issues with the product are misleading*

Where's my popcorn gif?

I think the point for me is why are they shipping so many out of tolerance? Great that they'll replace them, but for the cost, these should never reach the hands of customers... and that's assuming you think a .4mm bend is ok, within tolerance or not.
Where is your data to show how many have shipped out of tolerance? I've seen <5 pictures.

Why do people think a couple photos means it's some widespread issue? iPad just showed double digit growth in the numbers released for Q1. A LOT of these were shipped, likely over 12M units.

Everyone is making a big deal out of nothing because there are some pictures.

1) We don't know how many were impacted.
2) Apple just said they'd replace out of tolerance (400 microns) iPads

This is a NON story.

Bend or not:

I had an 11” iPad Pro for about two weeks before returning it but man, I loved that machine.

I returned it simply because around the same time, I decided to sell my desktop machine for a MacBook Pro and couldn’t justify keeping two new mobile devices. So I got the MacBook Pro and kept my old 9.7” iPad Pro for ultra-mobile work like writing at cafes, etc.

But that 11” iPad was awesome. So smooth and fast and pleasant to work with. It just got out of the way and let me do my thing.

Can’t wait for the day when more Mac titles are ported over, like Final Cut Pro. I will happily move to an iPad permanently.

Maybe if they remade the iPad Pro, adding in a “strengthening, non-bending headphone jack”, the problem would be solved?
The problem will be solved next year when they change the build

For now here’s hoping people don’t get bent iPads when it arrives.

Before this news even came out, I thought I noticed my 12.9 had a VERY slight bend to it depending on how I looked at it. I bought the smart cover for it though and it fits perfectly.

Do people actually think it's possible to manufacture a product without microscopic bends?

Every product is designed with a tolerance metric. There is no such thing as a product designed with zero tolerance. This includes ultra fancy luxury products (smaller tolerances) to crappy products (large tolerance levels).

You do know that your Macbook Pro, Macs, iPhones, etc.. all have these same tolerance levels, right?

Your BMW's and Teslas also have bends in them.
Going to dispute that the bend in the image is more than 400 microns too?

Personally I'd not worry too much about it, provided there was reassurance given that it wasn't going to get worse, or that if it did, Apple would honour that it's a manufacturing defect even outside of warranty period for an extra 2-3 years. But they seem to be talking about something completely different to whatever the actual issue is here.

Maybe try something "different," and build a THICKER device that will hold up more to the day-to-day usage these things get. IMO phones/tablets don't need to get any thinner, they can actually get a bit thicker, and that can have all kinds of great benefits, like a larger battery and better rigidity.

Despite every articles trying to make this issue appear to be common, I went and take a close look of all the iPad Pros displayed in many stores in my city and there is no single one that is bend, at least as far as my eyes can see. I asked all of my friends who own the new iPad Pro (all of which are cellular) and none of theirs bend. I ordered mine and it will arrive tomorrow and wait to see if it's bend.

So I don't know if it is a real problem here or we just generalise a few defect products. Apple sold millions of iPad. If just less than hundred of them bends it will be more than a best QC you can expect.
