Yeah, right

just downloaded the new iphone update but beware it deleted everything from my phone!!!!!!!!! this new iphone 4 is driving me crazy time to get a droid!

I don't believe you - updates perfectly. Another Droid fanboy trolling?

Enough about the bars... It's doing what it was suppose to do. PLEASE, someone tell us about the proximity sensor! Before this upgrade, the screen would sometimes come on during a call because the phone thought it was taken away from your ear... When the screen came on it could touch your cheek or mouth and the "end call" button accidentally ENDS the call....

SO, someone tell us about this proximity sensor. Does the screen stay off when you make a call and how far away until it comes on again? My calls were all ended due to this issue, rather than a lost signal and I'm in MA, USA.

Sorry buddy. A quick call to 611 and a little fiddling shows that this update does jack squat for the proximity sensor issue. I can move the phone around a little bit (with the phone making physical contact with my face), and the screen will come on.

(I didn't expect a fix for this, though—it's not in the release notes.)

I'm sitting here on Roger's network with a full 5 bars.

Sitting with an average of four on Roger's, its gone as low as three sitting in the same place. I had five for about a minute before it went back to four. I'm sure the difference between 4-5 bars is fairly negligible and considering it's supposedly just displaying a more accurate reading, I doubt I would ever notice the difference anyway. That said, I miss the illusion of always have five bars :p

Because now you have an accurate depiction of the phone's actual signal strength. This should more accurately show the deficiency of AT&T's network

So what does it mean when my AT&T Blackberry has full 3G signal and my iphone only has 1 - 2 bars?

You mean the phone that permanently bricks itself via hardware if you try to jailbreak it? No thanks.

After reading 7 pages, the sheer stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.

No, it will not make your 3G run better. It's old hardware that shouldn't even be supported anyways. To expect it to run a new OS well is just naive, no, just stupid.

Also, no, you did not lose signal, no, it did not make your connection worse; IT FIXED THE SIGNAL REPORTING. I don't know how this is hard to get; it now accurately reports the bars you have, unlike before, where it lied to you.

But alas, no one from the iPhone forum reads anyways, so this will fall on deaf ears (or rather blind eyes).

WTF do you mean by old hardware? My wife just bought a 3G a couple months ago. Apple shouldn't be concernd about fixing the 4's reception issues Then since it's old hardware that shouldn't even be supported anymore.

from the firmware umbrella website:

For all of you that did not get your iOS 4.0 shsh or 3.2 shsh I'm sorry. Apple has stopped signing them.

I'm updating TinyUmbrella right now to work with 4.0.1 and 3.2.1.

Stay tuned...

EDIT: I Spoke too soon. I've been able to save iphone4 iOS4 shsh. SO HURRY!!!! You have HOURS left not days.

I can safely say it's done bugger all for my reception problem except now it's showing 2 bars instead of 4. I still lose internet connection when i pick it up

It doesn't matter when your wife bought her 3G, her purchase date only affects the age of the device to her, not the market.

The iPhone 3G is old hardware, it launched in 2008, and is basically the exact same specification as the original iPhone but with a GPS sensor built in and the obvious 3G networking.

5 small bars before, 5 bigger bars now, no difference for me here at home.

Also, the "death grip" has the exact same result, from 5 bars it goes all the way down to 1 or even "no service", exactly as before.

I think we can now say without ANY doubt whatsoever that this is NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE!!! I'm so looking forward for tomorrow's excuses...

wtf, why is it so big for a antenna formula update? am i downloading an antenna insulator?

:D Damn this site needs to implement a thumbs up or down to individual posts.... or maybe a laughing face icon vs crying face icon.

Been a dozen posts today that have made me laugh out loud, the above being one of them.

Downloading...

I'm excited about iPad 3.2.1 :D hopefully this fixes the wifi issues once and for all! hate having my wifi idicator flashing about then having "connecting..." coming up then asking for a password!

We all know iPhone 4.0.1 is just going to make things look worse, not actually help. That issue is for tomorrow i believe.

Still updating though. May post results later :)

Looks like 4.0.1 still contains the "old" 01.59.00 modem firware, instead of the new 02.07.01 firmware included in iOS 4.1

I updated to iOS 4.0.1 and now this guy became my lock screen wallpaper???

Old hardware does not refer to when your wife purchased the device, but rather to when it came out (Q4 2008.)

In terms of the signal update, this shows that (in the US) AT&T is to blame for crappy service. Apple artificially inflated the bars but, when it updates them to AT&Ts standard, they honestly show the poor service.

The death grip is still present, but this shows that not all of these dropped calls will be fixed by a fantasy recall.

Stupid People...

Folks, do try and keep up.

What was promised in this update is exactly what was delivered. Bars.

Not prox sensor fixes, not antenna reception issues...bars.

And if you've had previous iPhones and updates, you know the files are always huge, completely replacing/updating the software/firmware.

Sheesh.
