So what does it mean when my AT&T Blackberry has full 3G signal and my iphone only has 1 - 2 bars?

Actually NO, I have full bars on 4 other phones in my house.. 3G, but the iphone is now showing 3 bars... all the time..

So yeah, the ****ed it all up with this update.

Also has anyone noticed that this has slowed their data rate down significantly even without doing the death grip.

Using the speed test app...

With 4.0.0 and the iPhone lying on the desk, i was consistently getting 1500-2000kbps.

With 4.0.1 and the iPhone lying on the desk, i am now consistently getting 200-300kbps.

Note: This is happening even when NOT doing the death grip.

If i do the death grip i can easily get it to drop from 3bars to "No Service" every time within 30 seconds.

just grabbed my shsh with umbrella!

For all of you that did not get your iOS 4.0 shsh or 3.2 shsh I'm sorry. Apple has stopped signing them.

I'm updating TinyUmbrella right now to work with 4.0.1 and 3.2.1.

Stay tuned...

EDIT: I Spoke too soon. I've been able to save iphone4 iOS4 shsh. SO HURRY!!!! You have HOURS left not days.

Keep in mind that Cydia is under HUGE load right now. If Cydia is timing out, go into Advanced Options and try selecting Apple.

Waiting for the Press Conference Tomor...

I'm not going to update until I hear what Apple has to say... to me, this is a slap in the face for customers..

It says one and only one thing - that Apple sucks at designing wireless hardware. No surprises here since they are very new to this.

Wow the formula did change, I used to get 5 bars at home, bow it shows 2, which I'm sure is more accurate with how many dropped calls we get in this area.

So what does it mean when my AT&T Blackberry has full 3G signal and my iphone only has 1 - 2 bars?

it means RIMM stole Apple's proprietary bar calculation code! That's what this was... an elaborate ruse to find out who is leaking and receiving Apple's IP ;-) ;-)

And now for something completely different.

There are several SkullCandy users in my locale that have reported to Apple that Skull Candy's passive noise cancellation earbuds+mics are Useless under 4.0 for phone calls or voice commands or recording (work fine as headphones for any app that is output only). You get a 'Thwap...[a snippet of mic sound]Thwap...[mic sound] Thwap...[repeat]' sound , as if takes 9/10ths of second of sound and compresses it into 1/10th of a second and repeat, occasionally plays a small bit of real sound)

Anyone know if 4.0.1 fixes this?

This pic from the recent Anandtech article puts the perspective very clearly. BTW i dont even have and iphone ATM either (ipod gen2). Nice to see the iPad get some attention too. We need more iPad owners to tell us if this update helps with their wifi woes.

Wow. 500+ MB for a calculation formula and a new signal indicator? I'm sorry, but that's kinda nuts. I'm going to wait to see if it is actually worth updating since I'm on a capped internet connection at home.

I believe that iPhone an iOS software "update" actually reinstalls the entire OS each time and does not "patch" software like MacOS.

Can anyone tell us why this is?

All it seems to do is make it so that I have a consistently lower signal and the issue still remains. Epic Fail.

Once again...

No change...the antenna issue remains. Less bars than before too. Nice try Apple...Now what?

Remedial learning time....

This is not going to fix the reception issue. This was not intended to fix the reception issue.

Please people...do try to keep up.

Wow what a mess.. Apple Apple, what are you doing? this is even worser than Microsoft ever did..

Goodie.

My iPhone 3G is down to 1 bar in my living room, with the occasional 2nd bar showing up, with 3G enabled. 4-5 bars on edge only.

Which sounds about right for our location. Never dropped a call or anything, but the reception where I live down between two mountains and a hill has never been very good. Having 4 and even 5 bars on 3G has never been very credible... ;)

My old Sony Ericsson rarely showed more than 2 or 3 bars, and that was up in my Mother's apartment on the second floor on the other side of the house (facing "outwards").

And the upgrade went very, very smoothly, unlike the 3.x -> 4.0 which I managed to eff up spectacularly, forcing me to restore the OS and re-install from backup not only once but twice...

No MMS Fix?

My guess is that this is probably not going to fix the no MMS problem that I have had since upgrading to iOS 4.0. Still looking for a fix. Anyone have any fix for that issue? (even though I know this is a thread for the 4.0.1 update)

I remember when they change the first iPhone to show more bars because everyone was whining...Guessing they just changed it back to the way it was with iOS1.0.

Prior to the update, bars went down from 5 to 2 upon grip of lower left.
After the update, bars go down from 3 to 2 upon grip of lower left.
