BBC's been on Apple TV for quite some time.
Until you can sign up explicitly within the 'apps' theres no point to adding these channels as you already need a cable subscription with your TV so you may as well watch them on that?!
I thought the same, but my understanding is they come with a lot of on-demand content. At least that's what I've been told. The only one I've really been interested in thus far (Disney) isn't available with my provider (DirecTV).
so, I just checked out Apple.com
for WATCH ABC the asterisk said this:
Free with your subscription through participating cable and satellite providers.
What stinks is my parents have NEVER subscribed to cable/satellite/dish/etc. They are still using their HUGE antenna on the roof for HDTV (quite clear too) broadcasts. They can easily watch ABC on TV or online BUT seems they won't be able to with Apple TV.
I understand this is probably an ABC thing and not something Apple dictated but it SUCKS! especially since ABC is an Over-The-Air network!
direct tv doesn't have on demand?
Not for Disney channel programming (at least that I'm aware of).
It's the same scenario as HBOGO where I used to have to use AirPlay and now I can just use the AppleTV.
Not to nitpick, but if you cut the cord, how do you have access to HBO GO?
Useless...
Without Amazon and Vudu, Apple TV remains a fringe device in my home.
Surely the Disney company has access to graphics artists.
Why the hell are their icons the ugliest ones on AppleTV? By far.
This should be stickied into every Apple TV article.
I Completely disagree. I have no problem paying for content. What I have a problem with is paying "monthly" for hardware for LIFE. I enjoy the content that is available on Apple TV (i.e. Netflix) and on CABLE (i.e. network TV) but I don't like having to switch between the CABLE BOX (and paying for it) and my ATV just to watch network TV. My goal is to only have the ATV on every TV and no hardware cost from Verizon FIOS. I think most cord cutters believe if only we could pay for what we want then it would be cheaper. I completely disagree. As most know when you drop TV and/or Phone then your Internet charges go up. The PIPE Provider (TWC, FIOS, etc) will get their cut no matter how the content is packaged or delivered. Also, it is pretty cheap to add a small TV Package to your Internet (at least on FIOS).Like others have already said, this is a worthless update. There is no value in adding channels that require a cable-subscription to watch.Bryan
I can't really see the point adding channels that you need to have an existing cable subscription for. Surely you would just watch it through your cable box instead?
Because I don't want to watch everything live and/or program my DVR for it .... I just go to HBO Go and browse through the movies available whenever I want.
Yea and what's up with some of the channels? Crunchyroll? Really? And WTF is up with KORTV?
yeah..expect for the fact that I love crunchyroll and plan to watch KORTV (if subscription isnt required).
The implementation/transition from an IOS app to an ATV app is probably pretty easy. It's more likely that Apple didn't actively seek out the addition of ALL of these services but that at least a few of the companies sought out inclusion in the platform to expand their audience.
Exactly. I can't believe this is what Steve Jobs had in mind when he said "I finally cracked it"...
This this UI not only do I have clutter but I still have to know which "provider" a particular show comes from. So if I want to watch "Modern Family" I have to know that is an ABC show. Not ideal.
