HBOGO for Apple TV isn't supported by DirecTV either. So much for hoping I would be able to stop having to watch it on my Xbox 360.

All you fellow directv subscribers, please tweet about it, send them emails, call them, if enough people complain, they will relent.

Over time Apple TV has maintained steady upgrades. It's all so smooth.

Over time, Apple has added very few apps. If they would actually open up an App Store on the ATV, we would of had all of these apps plus many more.

Search all Content

What I want to see is a "Search All" option. I.E. Say I want to see Waterworld with Kevin Costner. I would like to do a search and it would check My iTunes Purchased Content, HBO Go, Netflix, Hulu Plus and lastly AppleTV PPV. As content gets added it gets added to the "Search All". Of course exclude those I do not subscribe too.

Well, if you know someone that has HBO and they don't use their HBO Go service... I'm just sayin'....

Apple isn't big on porn. ;-)

1) The other person can even be using it, and it'll still work...just sayin'

2) HBO's Late Night (read, softcore porn) programming is also available via HBO Go. It doesn't really make sense to not offer Max Go also. Although, in my experience, mostly Max just has whatever movies recently left HBO.

Not necessarily true. HBO is in charge of when HBO Go, etc comes to certain services, not Apple. They drag their feet, too. Is it even available on the PS3 yet? I remember when it came to the 360. It was a big deal, as it was the first time it had been available outside of a mobile app or their website. And that was just a year ago.

Nope. You can own a TV and not pay, as long as it is not used to receive live TV. Either have it not plugged in, no TV tuner or you only watch TV on demand then you do not need to pay.

Correct. You cant get away with watching live tv through iPlayer though, as it then requires a license. If you're happy using it for catchup only (i.e pre-recorded stuff) then you wont need a license at all.

You are kidding? The AppleTV is all but abandoned and has been from day 1. It gets ignored for a couple of years, then you get a flurry of a handfull of services (which, NOTE are country specific and locked to certain providers, still rendering them useless for most of the users).

The AppleTV is grossly neglected and always has been.

But the trend is changing on that. Just stay tuned...it will get better and better with time.

Am I missing something? I just updated the ATV3, logged into Charter Cable, verified my account and went to ESPN. There is no mention or menu item of hockey or the NHL.

I've always known ESPN didn't like hockey by not reporting on it much, but to exclude it completely is ridiculous.

DirecTV's response to HBO GO

As always when you ask DirecTV anything - you get back a form letter. I tried calling first and that was disasterous - they said write an e-mail. Why aren't you carrying the longhorn network, etc. Here's the response I got from DirecTV concerning HBO GO on my Apple TV:

Thank you for writing.

I understand you would like to activate HBO GO on your Apple TV. This feature is currently not available. Any proposed new equipment or enhancements to current equipment are subject to change until a formal announcement is made, so I don't have any information that I can share with you right now. I have, however, forwarded your email on to our management so that they can have a record of your request.

What garbage...

Sorry if its been asked already but how many Apple TV's can you activate with your subscription?

Why is that? What does Apple TV have that Roku doesn't. Roku's contest is 10X more than Apple TV, is faster and easier to use. I have both also but rarely touch my Apple TV because it's lack of content and weak controller. Yes I can use my iphone, but I can also use my iphone to control the Roku Box.

I guess it all depends how deep you're into the Apple Ecosystem. The Apple TV works great for me. I stream movies from my laptop to the ATV3 without having to have a hardwire connection or jailbreak it. ATV3 also have airplay which makes up for the lack of App/Channel store. Yes, the Roku3 does have more content but how much of that extra content is really worth it? For a user like me, not much. They both have Netflix, Hulu Plus, NBA TV, etc etc.

ATV3 lacks Amazon Video...which is unfortunate but I believe you can stream your Amazon Video from your iPhone to your ATV3.

The Apple TV can access the iTunes library. That's the only reason I keep mine around. The rest of the time I'm using my Roku devices

cricket in the UK/Asia

****, just when I thought I could watch crystal clear cricket HD broadcasts - in all their rich colors, contrasts, overcast English skies - finally in the US with no AirPlay/cables, Watch ESPN/ESPN3 isn't supported by my internet provider! :(

I recently moved from AT&T that provides to Metrocast that doesn't. :( :(

I have a Comcast Xfinity internet only subscription. When I try to login to my Comcast account in the new WatchESPN app it says I don't have a TV subscription (which is correct). So it says I can't watch live TV. I can watch live TV (ESPN 3 only) on the WatchESPN app on my iPad when I log into my Comcast account through the iPad app. Has anyone been able to watch ESPN 3 throught the new ATV app with a Comcast internet-only subscription?

In the Live TV section on the WatchESPN app on ATV the games on ESPN 3 have the little lock symbol indicating I can't watch them.

Can watch HBOGO on my Mac, iPad, iPhone using my DirecTV login but not on an AppleTV.

Same with ESPN.

Shenanigans!!

Just want to speak up and say I don't have this problem. The news ticker is smooth and normal, and the picture is fine. It might not be 1080p (It's probably not), but streaming on the AppleTV box seems just the same as watching a cable signal. Perhaps it's your internet connection?

No, I get youtube, Netlix, Apple Rentals & Purchases in HD and I am watching on a good Plasma. I have 50mb up and 20 down.

I think it is just crap. Looks like 480p.

Anyway the tickers are not smooth on most LCD's, but on Plasma they are a lot better.

I just dropped TWC , now regretting it :( But CT has only couple of matches remaining.

still tied to old 1960's cable TV business model sorry HBO and these other cable TV specialty channels have to make direct web access to their content.
You have to make it easier and cheaper to subscribe rather that download a pirated movie/show.
$80 -$100 /mth for a cable subscription to 90% of the content that is useless.
Look at the Netfilx business model for example - cheap - easy to use on any device.

I'm looking to go back to pay tv because of all the streaming options that now come for "free"

Epix movies
HBO go
Disney jr
Nickalodeon
