I will be very disappointed if the to be released SE only gets a RAM upgrade if you can believe the rumors. If the Galaxy S8 comes out the S7 will likely be similar priced as the SE. It ain't compete every anymore especially not in china or India.
Note that since the introduction of the iPhone 5, Apple has kept selling two older generations of iPhones to offer cheaper, 'entry-level' phones. This strategy got slightly more complicated when with the introductions of the iPhone 6 and 6s, the older, cheaper models also served those wanting a smaller phone. The iPhone SE further muddled things by only being half a generation behind on most internals but three generations behind on the case and front assembly and by being a new phone instead of the unchanged two generations-old at the price-wise entry level iPhone.

I can't remember what Motorola device had the OLED that only showed you the notification on the screen. The rest of the screen wasn't on. Thought that was pretty cool.

Motorola Z Play has this and retails for around $400. And has excellent battery life - up to 5 days. I know cause I own it.

How about this? Apple reaps 94% of the profits for cell phones because the optimization of
IOS is so good! HOWZAT?

94% of profits for Apple in the cell phone industry prove otherwise :)
I never understand that people are so proud of a company making that exorbitant much of profits with such a minimal effort. It can be translated to one thing: YOU PAY TOO MUCH FOR THE PRODUCT.

Breaks my heart to see slavery still supported by #Apple and myself for buying the iPhone I use. #stopslavery http://news.sky.com/video/inside-the-congo-mines-that-exploit-children-10784310

How is this not a story here? What the hell Macromours?

Are we all just worried about where the finger print scanner will be, the size of the next display and of will eventually get wireless charging that this cruelty that's happening here.
That's a good story and I read that Apple did put a halt on accepting materials from sources like this until they can address the problems. But this is the wrong place to discuss this news item. There's a section of the forum where we can discuss politics and social issues more freely.

OLED is great, but I have 1 problem with it that keeps me preferring LCD. Burn In. It's horrendous. I've had 2 AMOLED phones (Moto X 2014 and Nexus 6) and both of those displays had burn in within just a couple weeks of usage (2-3 hours screen on time per day). Couldn't even watch a video without seeing the Android nav buttons burned in on the bottom. Compare that with my iPods and iPhones and iPads I've had over the years, which have had 0 issues with image retention or burn in.

I'd be perfectly happy with the switch to OLED IF Apple can source panels that won't burn in and also have the color accuracy that we're used to with LCD.

.....I agree a lower resolution helps with performance, but the A series is still years ahead of the SoC's from Qualcomm and the like performance wise so what's with the underlined? o_O

Ah, well, that's the thing, they aren't that much faster then the latest android hardware yet their screen resolutions are a lot lower. The A series are certainly not years ahead, that's wishful thinking. I guess we'll have to wait and see though what they do.

It's Apple marketing letting you believe they're the best. Mirror and smoke and Phil Schiller and suddenly it's the best

What does cheap have to do with anything with implementing OLED technology? Are you an engineer? Anybody that knows anything more Apple, knows they are never first to release the latest technology. They take their time and try to perfect it. And do something different The other manufacturers have not implemented. Furthermore, it's not always about Apple being late to the game with products, sometimes part manufacturers of players also put a constraint.

And your comment to disparage against building a new headquarters is only to hate against Apple. That has nothing to do with Apple releasing new technology.

Actually... they can be the first, they have certainly been first with computers, look at the Mac Pro, no other computer was designed like that with that much power, at the time, and now we have several copy cats of it. I 'think' they were the first to put in the type of SSD they use in laptops, the thin slim ones I think Windows laptops followed them?

You May be correct. I can't speak for the MacBook or Mac pro line. But I think when it comes to the Apple Watch, Bluetooth EarPods, and smart phone features, they certainly seem to be one step behind. But all likeliness, to me, Apple tends not worry about hardware prolonged. They would rather place their own personal emphasis on the product that makes it different from everybody else. And usually they try to implement some features that the other manufactures don't have.

You see you say that grumpymom, but the fact is MacRumors has been MORE then happy to plaster Apples (Tim Cooks) political support on its front pages, like the trans gender story the other day. It does seem to be rather hypocritical to say the least, but then again this site always has been. 9to5mac I find to be a lot more critical of Apple sometimes. Then again I'm sure Apple is by no means the only company who's supply chains exploit children which is disgusting really.

They were first with introducing USB to the masses, mouse, trackpad, wifi. Removal of DVD/cd, removal of the headphone jack. Especially when it saves money, they're first .

As for the new head quarter. It wouldn't be such a problem for some if they also gave something back to their customers in the form of new products. Just saying.

That is true, but then again the Apple Watch was the first to use a crown like it does, The iPhone isn't the first with anything.

I can understand what you're saying regarding what Apple has deleted over the years. And it's been frustrating and it's been an adjustment. Sometimes I like to think that Apple makes changes for the better, it's just not the changes that everybody wants or agrees what's better. But I see what you're saying.

I'm with you on that and sometimes they have to push the bar to get to the future. But in case of the Macs they don't give you any Apple alternative instead of going to the dark side. It's not a behavior I admire from a company who should treat their customers well.

Aaaaaaaand... nobody cares. I don't say that dismissively. The vast majority of the consuming public doesn't care about SoC's, core count, or any of the technical gobbledygook. Why? None of it is customer facing. The OEM's know it well. Why do you think companies spend inordinate amounts of money on ads for their cameras, screens, apps, etc.? Because that's what consumers care about.

The only people who care about the inside tech are the people who don't matter from a consuming perspective: tech geeks and tech press. It's the same on the Android side regarding "pure Android". Nobody cares, 'cept the reviewers and the vocal geek minority... while the consumers actually spend money on Samsung's with Touchwiz.

Face it, we (some of us) care about stuff that gets the side eye in public. Superior hardware/software integrated optimization never sold a product. Never will.
You're right about that! Macs have always been trailing PC's in terms of speed and they did sell well. And the difference in speed is much more noticeable then the difference in phone speed.

C'mon OLED sceens are made by Samsung and they are already perfected. What else does Apple need to do?

That is true, but then again the Apple Watch was the first to use a crown like it does, The iPhone isn't the first with anything.

Other watches had used a digital crown to scroll through menus.

I think Jon Ive was up to his usual Braun "homages" with the crown. Even down to having a colored dot on the Edition model.

Does anyone else offer a product like Airpods with the charging case?

Col4bin. Don't you realize this makes no sense? Apple isn't perfecting current OLED tech. They're buying screens from Samsung, and after that, probably from Sharp. What exactly do you think Apple will be getting right? Every Apple trope isn't applicable to every situation.
69Mustang. How about how OLED screens will be integrated into iPhone hardware and any resulting optimizations and performance improvements not currently implemented by Android OEMs? Trope enough for you or too hard to fathom?

I own the Airpods. There are other products that are similar in terms of providing the charging case, Murel and Bragi both do. And for the record, I'm not scrutinizing against the Airpods. They are an amazing product. As I mentioned before, Apple placed emphasis on implementing different features into the product that ultimately separate Itself away from the competition. They're just not the first to be on the market, which being first doesn't prove what a good product should be, it just means Apple pursues different avenues in timelines and product releases.

Thank you. I am not familiar with the other products you mentioned. I too was impressed with the Airpods and would like to give them a try to see how they work for me, but I'm stubborn and don't want to order and wait forever to get them. I want to walk in, buy them and try them for two weeks. If they are a comfortable fit for me and don't fall out, I'd more than likely keep them.

Apple stores are receiving more and more stock every day. You can call your local Apple Store and when you're prompted, say "Manager" and then you can ask if they have any Available. They won't give you a specific number, but They will tell you if they have any available. And even if you don't like them, you have a 14 day return. I like them and they have been easily one of the better products I purchased in the last six months.

Also if you order online, you might be projected a longer ship time, but they might in all likeliness be delivered in a much sooner expectancy.

From the "If I were King" files:

I would release a lot of rumors and partial truths in the year leading up to the 10th anniversary iPhone. I would give my suppliers designs and preliminary information, knowing that at least some of them would leak it. After a rumor has been accepted as true, I'd go to a different manufacturer/supplier with plans and drawings that specifically contradict the earlier ones. I would keep this up the entire year, allowing leaks as necessary to pump life into some of the discredited rumors, which at the same time discredits some of the new ones. No one would know who I was REALLY having design or build required components, as I would tell each potential factory that it's really going to be them and not to believe otherwise. Then, on the day of the event, I would pop my head out occasionally and smile at the crowd, maybe have the music strike up a few times to make people think it's about to start, but I wouldn't make them wait too long. Then the background music would suddenly cease, the lights would dim, and a spot light would shine on me as I walked to the center of the stage where I

The stores in my area are showing April 24 online. I've never seen them in stock when I check availability or by using one of the iStock services.

I can't speak personally for your area. My area, they receive shipments almost every day, but they sell so quickly, it will be harder to get a pair, depending on your location and Store.
