Wow has Apple finally figured out that gaming drives computer use. Doubt it.

Yet another kick in the teeth for the indie developers who find it hard enough to get noticed on the App Store in the first place.

But Smash Bros. is awesome and much better than most of Sony and Microsoft's exclusives any way you look at it (it's the only reason I'm keeping my 3DS.)
That's just your view and definitively not "any way you look at it".
Since you try to push your opinion so desperately I rather guess it is nothing but an average game.

We already knew this. Slow day at the WSJ, I guess, for them to be doing repeat articles.

I did not knew until now.

Well as a gamer I would rather something else happen. I would rather have these useless devs launch a game that actually works and not some broken crap all the time!
Take Deus Ex by Square Enix, they launched it in the iOS platform and it was great and seemed to work fine, then they launch on Android after a massive delay which they never explained as to why, now it launched and it runs great on my 2012 Nexus 7 but the sound is broken, its sounds like a broken telephone with constant crackling etc, on the play store its full of other reviews of other devices with the same problem.

So what has Square Enix done? Absolutely nothing! A company the size of Square Enix can't be bothered to make a game using the Unity games engine work properly, a games engine that runs things like Dead Trigger with no problems at all. Its been posted on their official support forums with no attention or reply at all.

EA are just as bad, Need For Speed Most Wanted worked fine, could have better performance but it ran, they then launched a patch that breaks the graphics on several devices, its like you drive around in the dark with no headlights on, they have since fixed it though.

Now my Nexus is totally stock and not rooted, yet here we have two huge games studios showing evidence they don't bother testing properly on a huge selling tablet? And I bet iOS has some broken games too?

Anyway rant over, if they can't be bothered to make a game that works properly they should just not get any exclusivity deals speaking of which all it will do is annoy people.
We won't even go to in game timers (thanks RR3) and game currency....

I think apple is very smart to do that. It looks better when someone tells someone to get this awesome app and then them look and it's not there. It might get them thinking that iOS has the better apps

Like today i was playing Horn. My neighbor saw it and asking the title. Then i told him its FREE. Then he run home fast. I laugh coz i know he is using Android.

Bribed-for exclusives are just anti-consumer.

Yeap but unfortunately not illegal, the games console biz has been doing it for years.

Horn has been on Android for about 2 years now mate.

Why are your panties all in a bunch?

Almost every single android member here gladly relishes in the fact that they pirate whenever the subject

Not sure what this has to do with Indie games… you do realize Apple just launched an Indie game section in March trying to help and highlight Indie games?

http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/03/21/apple-adds-new-app-store-section-highlighting-indie-games

BTW… back on subject, looking for exclusives does not surprise me. It's a smart business move. It's what made the Xbox so popular in the beginning when Halo was the "must play" game and therefore, the Xbox was the "must have" game system. Same thing.

Exclusivity - ugh, no thanks. The consumer loses out.

I realize they aren't the only ones doing this particular thing, but I am so tired of Google trying to take over the world... -_-

Apple wants to do the same thing as well....

Lets be realistic, no one is going to swap platforms because of this. This is only going to piss everyone off.

Lets be even more realisitic. It's not really about changing platforms based on certain apps. Only the super hard core gaming nerds will switch devices because the new angry birds is only on the platform he/she doesn't have. Its more about adding to the billions already being spent on, and the number of downloads on the app stores.

This, a games console exclusive will sell the console as that's its main purpose, a tablet or smartphone won't as its not their main purpose, although millions play mobile games, what games iOS or Android have isn't on the publics minds when buying them.

Perhaps in the USA but not worldwide.

This is to do with Indie games because by doing this Apple has essentially categorically stated that they are only interested in the big name players. Unfortunately it's always the way with these large organisations and I can totally understand their strategy behind it, it does make perfect business sense but ultimately it was the little guy working in his back bedroom that helped to get the App Store where it is today, the big players initially had very little interest.

My personal opinion is I think Apple could do more to help the indie developers get noticed and still have their cake and eat it with the big name players.

I find it interesting that the article mentions Google vying but fails to include any examples where they won exclusive release rights.

If they provide services for free that folk want in great numbers how is that a problem...

Let me guess tho that you would be more than fine with every man, woman and child the world over carrying a small mobile.device with a fruit on the back..

Since when have google services been free you do know you are paying google with your data.

I hate exclusives.
I hate it with the Xbone and PS4 and and I hate it here.

Slightly off-subject, but I don't hate it on consoles.

The reason games like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and inFAMOUS are so popular is because by being exclusive they can make a game as good as it can be without having to support crappier machines. If they thought it was viable/worth making on other machines then they would. You only have to look at comparisons of older games that have been redeveloped for the current-gen consoles, the Xbox One can't even keep up with that.

If being exclusive to a platform means a better game for that platform, then I am all for it.

Nooo! Isn't iOS and Android like more or less 50/50? Why do the whole exclusive thing??

I hate exclusives when it comes to PS/xbox. I definitely don't want to see exclusives on iOS/Android. Gahhh :(

First I hate exclusives all they do is ruin gaming for the people.. but I don't really care on the mobile side of things. There hasn't been a game released that I cared that much about that I had to have it. Luckily for us Apple users most games do come out on our platform anyways, but if it doesn't get the next Candy Crush then that's a blessing not a curse :) Games on mobile systems just aren't that good to really get all bent out of shape over.
