Lets be realistic, no one is going to swap platforms because of this. This is only going to piss everyone off.
But enough exclusives not available on your platform might be a deciding factor when you're in the market for a new device. If one does this, the other has to fight back or else one side will have all the good exclusives to where it really will be a deciding factor for a lot of people. In the beginning, Apple kind of exclusively had all of the good apps and games just because, which is one of the reasons I decided against Android originally.

I'd rather have Apple create a game engine that's exclusive to iOS and OSX. They could buy the unreal engine or something.

Since when have google services been free you do know you are paying google with your data.

Are you for real... Talk about pedantics.. So if I want to usr Google earth how much does it cost me...zilch.. if I want to do a Google search.. zilch.. if I want to watch a vid on YouTube.. zilch... So I've given Google zero pennies so remind me again how it isn't free... Please don't say they give my search options to advertisers...and.... How is that costing me money....?.

At Google, Inc in executive managers meeting,
Executive manager A: Let us focus on Google glass this year.
Executive manager B: Don't drop the ball on Project Ara and Google contact lens too.
Executive manager C: We needs to make balloons internet work on those areas that Internet is unreachable guys.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, At Apple, Inc.
Executive manager D: We needs these games for couple months exclusive.
Executive manager E: Let us get Cut of the Rope 2 too.
Executive manager F: Guys, we also need to bring back Flappy Bird.
Tim Cook: Yeah, Flappy Bird on a giant screen phone should be unbeatable. This is a breakthrough.

Wait... Something is wrong here. Why I see tons of people commenting about how bad Apple is on Macrumors? I mean this is an Apple based forum, if you don't like Apple why are you still here? You can post a lot of comments about bashing Apple on Android forums and I bet a lot of people will listen you.

Interest always dies when I hear its an 'exclusive'. For most people if it isn't on their desired platform, no sale.

Thanks for missing my point entirely.

You're welcome... you gotta let people have the short rants in life...

----------

If they provide services for free that folk want in great numbers how is that a problem...

Let me guess tho that you would be more than fine with every man, woman and child the world over carrying a small mobile.device with a fruit on the back..

As long as the fruit isn't spying on them...

Sorry, but that is just a load a rubbish.

First of all, those items you mentioned from Google are long-shot, vaporware products that will probably never see the light of day.

And, secondly, you can't assume that the only thing Apple is doing is talking about this one thing because, unlike Google, Apple doesn't announce things ahead of time so the blogs can make a big deal out of it and PR shill for them.

I hate exclusives.
I hate it with the Xbone and PS4 and and I hate it here.

Why? 9/10 exclusives are the reason WHY we choose a platform or WHY a game is so special.

90's gaming was brilliant because you had exclusives; now we have awful ports of games made for one platform and ported to others.

I hate modern day gamers.

Front Page

That front page or editor selection position is very valuable. If a developer wants to do an exclusive in return for that position, so be it. The developer is probably developing for iOS first anyway and it will take them time to port to Android. So what if exclusivity extends that time by a few weeks.

I don't get this as business practice from a competitive view but i do from a loyalty one.

There is no advantage to an exclusive from a consumer perspective because you are basically halving the number of people who could be buying and playing your game.

I think it works differently than this. Instead the developer gets more downloads to compensate losses with increased visibility in the store. In turn the developer relationship breeds loyalty to the exclusive side and sees massively increased sales on that platform leading them to think it was a good choice.

In reality it's just shifting the balance of loyalty.

I think a better way is to ask developers if they want payment in shares rather than money and lessen the % taken by the store. This way the developer has a vested interest in the store that sells the most. Doing a deal like this for visibility on the store would absolutely swallow the competition.

Lets be even more realisitic. It's not really about changing platforms based on certain apps. Only the super hard core gaming nerds will switch devices because the new angry birds is only on the platform he/she doesn't have. Its more about adding to the billions already being spent on, and the number of downloads on the app stores.

Super hardcore gaming nerds don't care about Angry Birds.

There are still plenty of Playstation exclusives out there as well as Xbox exclusives, which does sway people when it comes to buying a console. I'll only buy PS because I like to play MGS...

Exclusives still exist not sure why you think that disappeared. I don't see ports for Metal Gear Solid on the xbox etc

Games are one of the top attractors for a platform.

This is one reason PC had far more games than Mac.

Consider also the game industry is worth BILLIONS .

I think Apple needs far more investment to game (entertainment) projects.

Has anyone, anywhere, ever actually used ~/Pictures/iPod Photo Cache/ for anything besides deleting or hiding it?

Your sig proposed a question, I have the answer.

"iPod Photo Cache" is where the resized versions of photos from your library are stored before they are synced to your iPhone, iPad, etc... The idea is that they only have to be resized once for each device, and they are stored there so that they don't have to be reconverted every time you sync.

You can delete the folder, but if you sync a lot of photos to your device the next sync will take a very long time because all the resized versions have to be regenerated. Sometimes if there are problems with syncing photos, you can fix them by deleting this folder..but just deleting it because it's there is not a great idea.

Hope I cleared that up for you and you can change to a better sig, like "Can Rarity's obsession with gems be considered a fetish?" ;)

Android users don't buy anything. Doesn't make sense to cater to people who won't spend any money or will spend less money no matter what you try to sell them. Google is better to focus on getting the games later and for a cheaper price for consumers. App devs would be out of their minds to cater to a platform who's claim to fame is being the cheap option.
