My experience w/ Hyundai was a complete dumpster fire. Stuff happens and I could have easily been one of the unlucky folks, but I don't ever want to own a Hyundai again. At least it's going to be the last on my list of brands I want. /Rant

Now to the Apple car. I get the whole Hyundai build to specs and yada yada yada. My main question is, and a serious one, what will Apple offer with a car that doesn't currently exist, OR (which apple typically does) what doesn't work well that apple can make "just work"?

Exactly. What's the service offering? It has to be more than "integration with Apple devices."

Taking a step back, Apple is good at giving users a product that does what they want. Their products don't do everything, but what they do they do well. It's products are well-designed, well-engineered, and well-integrated.

What does that mean about Apple's car initiative? Well obviously, it has to drive itself. That's really feature #1. If Apple can't do that then there's no point in Apple doing it.

Can Apple do it? Well, it's unclear. I'd like to think that they can, but then I try to use Siri and realize that their AI team needs work. I realize that's an unfair comparison, but then...what do we really have to compare with? I can list a whole bunch of small bugs that plague my iOS/MacOS existence, as can many bigge. Those make me less confident that they can deliver. OTOH, a car is less complex than iOS, so maybe they can pull it off.

I don't like that Apple is trying to be in every business that it can be. I want them to just focus on making the best computers. The phone, watch, tablet - these are all computing devices.
Apple stopped being solely a computer company the day that Steve Jobs announced that Apple is changing its name to Apple Inc. from Apple Computer Inc. Apple is full-on consumer technology company. I for one would love to see them enter this space. Apple is exciting when it takes bold risks as opposed to playing it safe.

It doesn't matter, the Apple cult will buy it, it wouldn't even have to have wheels and they'd still be able to sell them.

I will never buy a Hyundai again after the disaster the 2011 sonata was that we had. One issue after another that cost me thousands of dollars....

But I've also heard conjecture/speculation it might be a fully autonomous "city car" designed for short-range taxi / ride share services inside an urban and suburban area.
This is honestly what I would love to see. This is something that can truly push transportation forward, not another me-too EV.

So, to save the environment, since most people already have existing cars, Apple car will not come with tires as users can just use the tires from their old cars. If needed, customers can purchase Apple official tires at $499 per tire.

I wonder if it isn't a physical car but a platform. Then it can be sold to others and Hyundai/Kia paid to get first bids.

Hmmm... Apple gift cards should work via Apple One. I only need 500 $100 gift cards.

I’ll start saving now.

The deal is that Hyundai will only responsible for the production line NOT the product design or performance.

OTHERWISE, This is like a disaster in the making, it's like signing an agreement with Nokia to produce the first generation of iPhone.

I’m an Audi driver, but I’m compelled to give credit where it’s due. So, yes, absolutely Hyundai. In my opinion, the most objective measure of a car’s quality is the warranty that the manufacturer is willing to commit to. Right now and for at least the last decade, Hyundai has offered the best warranty in the US (and perhaps the world):

10-Year / 100,000-Mile

That power train warranty alone speaks volumes. But take a look at the top of the line Hyundais — especially the Hyundai Genesis — and you’ll find an automobile that holds its own design and performance-wise against much more expensive automobiles.

In addition, like Foxconn, TSMC, et. al., Hyundai is a proven high-quality/high-volume manufacturer. I can’t say I was expecting this choice by Apple, but once again I’m impressed by their ability to see what everyone sees, but think differently, and better.

I’m expecting great things from this partnership.

Maybe we should be perfecting completely autonomous electric golf carts before taking this to the streets, roads and highways where two vehicles can potentially slam into each other head on at a combined speed of up to 140 MPH.

I love Apple but switching from 20 years of high end Mercedes-Benz cars to a Hyundai. Err I don’t think so
I have friends who have done just that who are now happy Hyundai loyalists enjoying comparable build quality, better electronics, greater reliability, and significantly better fuel efficiency. They are not looking back.

Apple can't design a vehicle.
Well Apple cant design CPU`s , they are a SW/OEM company , oh wait..... you have a VERY narrow minded view of the world if you think the biggest company on plant earth cannot hire the right ppl and design a vehicle , do you know how many engineers work for Apple CPU division ? do you think designing a car is harder ? just look at the amount of companies making cars vs the amount of companies designing their own high end CPU`s ill let you in on a secret , its not even close.

TLDR - Designing cars complexity is not even close to designing custom made CPU`s (Cars are much simpler to design), Apple does the latter brilliantly , not a single reason to think they wont be able to design a Car.
