Apple can't design a vehicle. What is a "luxury car company" ? Every major manufacturer makes luxury cars, including VW, FCA, Nissan, Honda, Ford, GM, Toyota, and yes, even Hyundai.
And why does it need to be a "luxury car company" ? Is there something about manufacturing luxury cars that would make this theoretical "luxury car company" particularly adept at manufacturing a vehicle designed by Apple?
I'm in agreement that I doubt Apple could design every single element of a car, but, teaming up with a established maker of vehicles that owns/understands and executes every single aspect - Apple can focus on what they are good at and leave other elements like eg platform, drivetrain, safety etc to their partner ...Apple can't design a vehicle.
This was just fast typing. My M1 MacBook Air's keyboard can't keep up with my typing speed. Also, English is not my native language.Glass house... there are many non-native speakers, be friendly.![]()
One important thing to add here. Apple would need to get their own Showroom and Service Center network. They can't use those of Hyundai's or Kia's. In fact, even Genesis refuses to use Hyundai's dealerships. They are THAT bad.We own a 2016 Sonata hybrid and it's been a good reliable car ...
I have said over the past month or so that I do not believe in an Apple car because Apple does not have a service/dealer network nor experience in designing/manufacturing cars ...
Now if/when they partner with an established manufacturer, that is a game changer, now they can concentrate on what they re really good at but leave ie platform, drivetrain, safety etc to someone who has plenty experience. That now (to me) sounds like success and with a timeline of ~ 4 years achievable.
Riight. And you would be able to tell a filing or photo of an Apple Car Mule from a Hyundai mule? Don’t think so, and that’s why it will remain a secret. There is so much groundwork that is involved that there is no way the public wouldn't know about an Apple car years in advance.
Hyundai will cease to exist as a car brand.
well, out of my personal experience of 4 1/2 yrs owning a Sonata hybrid, I am actually pleased with the service provided by our local Hyundai dealer ... and the Genesis "sales/service" office is located within the Hyundai dealership. One important thing to add here. Apple would need to get their own Showroom and Service Center network. They can't use those of Hyundai's or Kia's. In fact, even Genesis refuses to use Hyundai's dealership. They are THAT bad.
no it won't, new cars and prototypes are tested on public roads and there are plenty of people who are specialized in "new car spying", plenty of past and current examples, and don't forget MacRumors, we know everything Apple is planning and doing well in advanceRiight. For Sure! Why not? Hyundai makes good vehicles. 1987 Hyundai Stellar wasn’t so great, but lately in 2021, people are saying Hyundai is Toyota quality. All cars from all makers have gotten a lot better. Hyundai is great I’d say. Who cares what maker really? It’s peak ICE right now. Pick the car maker that is able to be flexible to a new design and has a good process for QC. Maybe look at their interior design philosophy and style. After that it’s economics, and nodoubt Hyundai saw a great opportunity working with Apple - that’s how I see it.Hyundai - really ?
Would they? I can think of a certain other innovative automaker that forgoes dealerships and only has a few service centers throughout the US.One important thing to add here. Apple would need to get their own Showroom and Service Center network.
Interesting prediction. Hyundai already owns 33.88% of Kia, and the two share components and platforms. The highly rated Kia Telluride is basically the same as the Hyundai Palisade. While Genesis cars are highly rated, I question their ability to survive in the long term since they have basically no brand power in comparison to the established luxury manufacturers. My prediction is that Apple will buy most of Hyundai's dealerships and convert them to Apple Car showrooms and Service Centers. Hyundai will buy Kia, perhaps rebrand it, and will use Kia plants and dealerships for their non-luxury cars while keeping Genesis as the luxury brand. Hyundai will cease to exist as a car brand and will instead become an OEM for the Apple Car.
That Apple Ship has sailed. And Bosch should just have stuck to spark plugs, instead of dish washers, etc. Diversity is sound corporate policy.I don't like that Apple is trying to be in every business that it can be. I want them to just focus on making the best computers. The phone, watch, tablet - these are all computing devices. Why does Apple need to make hardware that has nothing to do with computers? I know there will probably be some kind of computer in the car, but it's not really the same thing.
Same thing with HomePod, like I just don't see why they need to be making that when there are several other companies they could partner with on design who make the exact same product. Apple fans will tell you that the HomePod is the best smart speaker they have every owned or whatever, but everyone knows there is really nothing unique about the product, it's just a good rendition of the same thing made by several other companies such as Sonos, Bose, JBL, etc. I understand some projects like AirPods - since they are so essential to using the iPhone that it would feel strange of Apple didn't have their own product in that line.
Exactly. Luxury makers do know how to make a nice interior, but all we need is a Tesla copy drive train - or better. If you want luxury - do like mid 80’s Cadillac - velour and a couple inches of foam rubber. Cushy. That’s a good enough start if someone wants a plush comfy electric autonomous lux ride. No needs for dynamic 18 way heated and ventilated seats with massage function like my S63 just yet. That would be foolish IMO.
Hyundai makes luxury cars too (Genesis).I'm surprised that they don't work with a luxury car company.
What’s wrong with Hyundai? They made good cars..also luxury Genesis range..Hyundai - really ?
Hopefully you are still paying for Apple developer program annual fee 😂Sign me up for a beta!
Perhaps the partnership will be with the new Ioniq EV brand?

You would have to be nuts to believe this timeline.
it’s not just about the car itself. There is so much more that is going to tip it off years in advance. And from Apple itself too know because it cannot hide it, and to further build anticipation.Riight. And you would be able to tell a filing or photo of an Apple Car Mule from a Hyundai mule? If by independent you mean owned 90% by Fiat and 10% by Ferrari, but operating separately from Fiat itself. How is that relevant?
Ferrari is independent.
I will agree on that part. Leased one, i dreaded going in for service or walking into their dealerships. This was just fast typing. My M1 MacBook Air's keyboard can't keep up with my typing speed. Also, English is not my native language.
