Not when the patents that apple is using are crapents. WHich [sic] means they weak [sic] patents and overly broad.
That's the great thing about opinions - everyone gets to have one.

And, seriously? "Crapents"?
Sorry but you should not be able to patent a flash [sic] slab retangle.
If you meant "flat", then, you may not think so, but apparently the people selected for the jury do.

Since said jury ruled overwhelmingly in favor of Apple, you can either deduce that they were all biased towards Apple (kind of unlikely), or that they thought the patents were valid (more in the realm of possibility).

My favorite Ann Rand Quote

Off the subject.

“Do you know the hallmark of the second-rater? It's resentment of another man's achievement. Those touchy mediocrities who sit trembling lest someone's work prove greater than their own—they have no inkling of the loneliness that comes when you reach the top. The loneliness for an equal— for a mind to respect and an achievement to admire. They bare their teeth at you from out of their rat holes, thinking that you take pleasure in letting your brilliance dim them—while you'd give a year of your life to see a flicker of talent anywhere among them. They envy achievement, and their dream of greatness is a world where all men have become their acknowledged inferiors. They don't know that that dream is the infallible proof of mediocrity., because that sort of world is what the man of achievement would not be able to bear. They have no way of knowing what he feels when surrounded by inferiors—hatred? no, not hatred, but boredom the terrible, hopeless, draining, paralyzing boredom. Of what account are praise and adulation from men whom you don't respect? Have you ever felt the longing for someone you could admire? For something, not to look down at, but up to?"

Maybe it's just me, but Samsung's statement appears to be not just arrogant, but also pretty defiant near the end.

I have used S2, S3, Nexus, iPhone 3GS, iPhone4 and I can easily say that the iphone is the more superior phone in terms of performance and general usability.

well, if you don't want to take an educated guess I will tell you. iPhone mate lol

that's an opinion. it's not a FACT.

at the end of the day use whatever fits your needs best. like i prefer a phone that i have full control over. i want to control my phone the way i want, not the other way around. customization and control don't go well in ios world.

That's what they want you to think. And the majority assume that with no research.
I researched with my hands & my eyes - no other phone feels this solid, looks this good or works this well PERIOD

If you can't recognise a quality product when it's in your hand! I recommend you save your money & stick with the cheapo plastic fantastics.

I'm surprised Samsung bothered to issue their own statement. Usually they just copy what Apple does... :p

LMAO...so true. Samsung is like the stupid kid in class who never studied for exams and instead copied off everyone else.

At least Microsoft is coming out with something original.

I'll tell you what. Take your iPhone and a Motorola to a fringe reception area and see how they compare. But of course you don't want to hear about that. I mean, who makes phone calls.

This is great news, and win by Apple.
Personally, Apple should attempt to get all of Android banned.
It's core concept is copied from Apple, and Google should pay for it.

been there, rejected it. :p

Haters are haters. I know a guy that bought a zune with the choice of ipod and zune, and a blackberry storm with choice of iphone avail, and an acer tablet (or whatever it was). Lots of zune buyers out there mate! What are they thinking? I don't know, they just know they want the dumb one....

Cank.

And that's really the rub. Samsung developed their own UI but it sucked, then they copied Apple's UI and form factors; lock, stock, and barrel.

Props to Microsoft for developing their own innovative smartphone UI.

Off topic as well.

My favorite quote of hers is
Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual).

I very much disagree with some of what she would consider to be the most important aspects of her philosophy, but some of the things she says are pretty friggin awesome.

Can you tell me where the mouse peripheral came from? Because unlike what Apple would like you to believe, they did not in fact invent it.

How about a more current "feature," the notification slider in iOS 5?

How about the search function in Safari? Or the QWERTY keyboard you use?

The calendar that iOS utilizes... The digital clock that iOS uses at the top of the screen...

All this could be considered "copied"

That's why this ruling is so ridiculous.

Like Apple made many things that didn't exist. Like a smartphone. Oh, wait, someone else did it before them. Well Apple made the first tablet. Oh, wait, tablets existed long before the iPad. Apple made the first, super-thin computer, the Macbook Air. Oh wait, the Sony Vaio Z was around long before the MBA. Well Apple invented the iPod, the first portable music player. Oh, wait.........

Is this the kind of innovation you are talking about?

So, by this logic, if you were to write a song, then it isn't original? Would you say you copied someone else? Sure, there's influences, but that's not copying.

To say Apple isn't innovative doesn't make any sense. Before iPhone, was there a phone with this type of OS that is very representative of a desktop/laptop computing environment? How about the use of the capacitive technology in the screen to respond to your fingers? Yes, there's been styluses that can interact with the screen beforehand, but what about multitouch gestures? Or the optics near the earpiece to know when to turn the screen off when you're making a phone call?

What phone or tablet looked or felt anything like iPhone or iPad before they came into existence? I'm fairly certain the answer is none. At least for the general public of consumers, to my knowledge.

again what apple had become

said before and will say it again Apple has become what the 1984 commercial was all about, damm shame.

Been a member here for more than a decade. I strongly disagree with this jury, the trade dress and some of these patents, not all.

I have bought my last Apple product. I will not support Apple again. I'm sure they will continue to make huge profits. I just won't contribute to them.

Apple, next time you're down in the dumps like you were in 96, I won't be the loyal customer I was. Your trade dress is simply ridiculous. I frankly can't believe it was upheld.

I hope this was your stance the day they filed the lawsuit and not just the day after the jury verdict. If they had lost, you would have found no wrong doing from Apple?

I personally applaud Apple for standing up to protect their work and the jury for looking at all the evidence and giving their honest opinion. I look at what Microsoft and Nokia have done, as well as HTC and others, and definitely see far too much copying from Samsung. To me the S3 is a great step in the right direction and proves that Samsung can do great when they put their mind to it. They saw what Apple was doing and said "Crap, we're going to get smoked. Let's adapt as quickly as we can." They should have said "We lost this round, let's go back to the drawing board and come up with something great."

Can't wait to see what Apple shows us next month. And I hope Microsoft continues to up the pressure with their new offerings, as well as Samsung with the S3 and whatever comes next. I think this verdict will be great for innovation and competition.

I have to agree with both sides actually. All this insane patenting has gotten out of control. I wish patents would expire perhaps after a year or two. This would literally force innovation.

The Founding Fathers disagreed. So much so, that they wrote it into the US Constitution.

If I write a song and call it Satisfaction and change it up a bit to make it a rap song so today's youth will like it, wouldn't that be copying since the Rolling Stones wrote it 50 years ago?

Copyright law needs to be radically changed to favor the consumer, .

I agree I should be able to go copy the Harry Potter series and sell it to you for half price, you benefit cause it is cheaper, I benefit cause I make money. The only person who looses is the actual person who created the material.

Maybe we should change copyright laws on CD's and movies too, that way you can buy it for cheap, then the consumer wins right..... Wrong, people will stop creating if they cannot protect there intellectual ideas.

Consumers win when companies compete on there own merit, not on coping material where someone/a company spent millions developing the idea, and someone can spend thousands copping it to under sell the creator and take market share.
