All corporations should have political agendas and social justice goals. Without them, they're robotic cash machines and nothing more. The best companies have actual humans with beliefs, and they have every right to voice them. If you don't agree with them, there are less politically vocal companies you could support, but they're still participating in social justice and politics. Perhaps less vocally, but they all do it, and it helps to make this country a better place and push individuals fighting the social justice fight by lending a bigger support in the corner

Personally I preferred it when Apple was ran by a guy with more interest in product than social issues, I don't buy Apple because of their politics. It's great that they're nice people but was greater when their focus was on making the best product.

Stay out of politics and social issues apple, and next time bother to make reference to 10th anniversary of your products. You are a consumer company, not our moral compass .

MLK was a great man, who does not need a consumer company to pretend to care to sell products, he was greater than this

Nothing to do with Apple products and King is definitely not my ***** hero either. Cheating on his family with multiple whores, using the n word, His friends Reverend Sharpton, Jackson, all poverty pimps per the definition. Yeah some hero. Next time I want the news, I'll go to Macrumors.com instead of a news website.

Appropriate since Tim Cook has stated MLK is one of his heroes.

"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." Martin Luther King, Jr.

I wish Apple had no political agenda and social justice goals to pursue.

And do you know how much the King family foundation charges advertiser to license his image? It's just so commercialism, from a guy who did one of the MLK ads and saw the licensing fees ;-(

Normally, I count myself among the most cynical of individuals. In this case, I really can't find a reason to doubt Cook's sincerity. Love him or hate him, Cook's pretty transparent about his social justice stance. Honoring Dr. King fits that profile.

So your saying it's yet another example of Cook using the Apple name to show his personal feelings about a topic that the company has absolutely nothing to do with. He's getting quite good at that.
I still think it's a mass marketing ploy though because no other giant corporation behaves like this publically.

We might all be in the same boat but I don't think we'll be seeing Mr. Cook in steerage anytime soon.

Ah, you mean "no other giant corporation," like, say Google, with today's doodle honoring MLK day? I could look for more, but I don't think it's necessary, as showing one other giant corporation is sufficient to disprove the claim of "no other giant corporation."

Oh you mean the google home page, like it has done for quite some time and celebrated lots of different events like the Olympics, tell me when exactly was the last time Apple promoted the Olympics on its front page then? Yes Google is different. Apple is just after a quick advertising publicity stunt. You don't go to google to view expensive electronics or watch straps...
Was Luther King June on Sonys front page today, Panasonic, IBM, Samsung???

Why are people so hurt about this?

MLK was a great man who deserves recognition. If you don't like Apple's/Tim Cook's recognition of Dr. King, buy another companies products.

Whether or not it's a genuine goal is open for debate, but all multi-billion dollar corporations have political agendas that serve their interests, and no amount of wishing is going to change this. However, I'm not sure why anyone would have an issue with pursuing the goal of equal rights, or remembering and honoring Martin Luther King Jr. on this day. *shakes head*

"However, I'm not sure why anyone would have an issue with pursuing the goal of equal rights, or remembering and honoring Martin Luther King Jr. on this day"

Because they don't believe in pursuing the goals of equal rights or remembering the honor and gift that was Martin Luther King Jr.

It's sad that people like them choose to not pursue the values that everyone should uphold. They are on the wrong side of history, humanity, morality, and love.

Here in the red state of Arizona, we don't have stuff like this....or daylight savings time. But we can bring guns into bars and stuff so....we have that going for us.

I hate this place.

You realize you can move to a state that is more oppressive if you so choose right? I was for freedom so I moved to Texas.

For the record, MLK day is a Federal holiday.

Apart from self advertising and getting people to view Apples products, I'm struggling to see the connection here between a giant American consumer electronics corporation and Mr King Jnr's death?
Well, you would. No surprise.

In regard to this ad, it's a direct shot at the incoming administration. We all can see that. I just see it's dangerous when Companies use their money in the political sphere, even if I agree with the message. It's the methodology that I think should be stopped. But I guess this is the norm is our so called democracy

If you think celebrating Martin Luther King is a "direct shot at the incoming administration", then you must have a pretty awful incoming administration. But then of course, you do.

So Tim, what did MLK say about Modern Slavery: Chinese labor exploitation and exhaustion, over-capitalist behavior and tax evasion ?
The reason behind your success is a highly exploitative business model and milking the planet's scarce minerals.
With more social unjustice than you can ever plead against.
Stop cheap piggybacking historic figures that you can't match, Cook.
Fact is that Apple has more done for improving incomes of people in China than any other company. Anyone at their suppliers using child labour becomes an ex-supplier very very quickly. They force companies to repay fees charged by agents (that's something that Samsung sees as a very acceptable practice in Malaysia).

If you care, you might write to Donald Trump and see what he thinks about helping poor people everywhere in the world. Well, they aren't going to vote for him...

I wish Apple had no political agenda and social justice goals to pursue.

Apple has ALWAYS paid tribute to great minds of our time...its part of who they are. "THINK DIFFERENT" . This not a political agenda piece. Cook has one but you should know the difference by now.

I actually spat my mug of tea up the wall when reading this.

Not good. Was it with milk or citrus? Citrus would be better for the wall.

The issues you are raising are real and cannot be underestimated. Unfortunately they concern basically all our modern high tech products even including the internet.

A Letter from Birmingham Jail is a wonderful piece of American Literature - still impresses me today. An imperfect man who did some amazing things.

I wish Apple had no political agenda and social justice goals to pursue.

And I wish that people who said things like this realized the fact that they sound like racist, uncaring jerks who are against equal rights for all.

But hey, maybe they do.

It amazes me that even this front page image can bring negativity.

It's upsetting and discouraging that people actually have an issue with this... honoring an individual who fought for basic human rights. It's not surprising, though, considering so many people have an issue with ANYONE who does ANYTHING to protest against inequality. The power of ignorance is amazing to me.

Meh. and nothing changes.

A picture on a website with a silly quote.

All that money overseas could have been spent backing a candidate whom wanted more equal rights. Its all smoke and mirrors.

Lets stick to the computers and stuff Tim.
Oh yes. All that money overseas. Because America is obligated to receive the benefit, right? For some random prideful idiotic reason. Not to mention the lost money through the crazy tax rate. That's very obligated.
