I'm assuming the other Macs (specifically the current MBAs) are staying as is since this one is "the new MacBook". It's not replacing the others.

But I agree. At that price I'd rather get a 13" rMBP and have my ports plus a separate charger that doesn't get in the way.

My next will likely be an iMac of some kind. My use case to have a laptop just keeps getting less especially with an iPad

Hence, underpowered... If you need a less powerful portable solution get an iPad. This is supposed to be a computer on which you'll run real application on.

It's very comparable to the current macbook air, so it's every bit a "real computer" as the current air is.

The keyboard and touchpad are intriguing, but I can't imagine them justifying that entry price. Looks like it will be 11" MBA for me - especially with 5th-gen Intel Core CPUs / Intel HD Graphics 6000.

Very cool machine after watching the presentation.

I'm surprised it is this cheap.

Magic mouse with force touch?

so if Im charging this macbook but need to charge my iphone as well, I cant do that b/c theres only 1 port?

So charging my macbook, my iphone, and have a flash drive plugged in isnt possible anymore on this macbook without an adapter, correct?

Positives:

Retina

Negatives:

Everything else. I'll stick with my 2011 i5 Air. Its performance is still plenty for what I use it for. The whole "1 port" thing (plus headphone jack) really is a problem for my uses.

This computer is a waste of people's hard earned money.

Why doesn't Apple just call it what it is - an ipad with a keyboard.

1 port, no headphone jack, 12 inch screen, weak processor, $1300 base.

Spray paint a computer gold and call it "revolutionary"

That's messed up.

No fans? How will it not cook itself if you choose to do anything intensive. Like gaming? I'll stick to my Pro ty.

Did they finally kill the MD101 with CD/DVD? Please god.. tell me they did.

If the new MacBook had a sim card slot I'd probably bite, ditch my iPad, and use it purely as a portable entertainment and browsing device on the go, the sole purpose of my iPad these days. Have a 15" rMBP for main usage, but that's never leaving the house.

Can't be bothered with tethering, I can and do do it sometimes but nothing beats an inbuilt, always on connection.

It's a good looking notebook, but you'll need an adapter for everything. It's good as a supplementary notebook or for people who aren't "power users." If I had an imac, I'd consider getting it.

Wow

Better than imagined, insane design, no moving parts, not-needing-to-bring-the-plug battery life, perfectly silent, incredibly thin, incredibly light, good RAM and SSD, more than adequate CPU (for my use), this is simply my dream notebook.

The processors are a little slow but that was always going to be the case with the design.

I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Yup, I feel the same way. Buying as soon as Apple lets us order.

Why can't Apple just leave things alone? Everyone just wanted a Macbook Air with a retina screen. They give you the retina screen but take away all the connectivity. Everyone wanted an updated Mini, they gave us a speed and spec bump but took away the upgradeability.

The problem is that Ive has way too much power internally at Apple and no one left to tell him when his **** stinks. He is surrounded by "yes" men. Having absolutely no connectivity so Ive can make the laptop a few millimetres thinner is insanity and evidence of his form-over-function design philosophy taken to the absolute extreme.

I get where you're coming from on that front, but my main reason for getting a rMBP over an iMac was the fact I can use it in various rooms of my house. It just has the added benefit of the ability to be used outside too.

Well you probably wouldn't be gaming on this thing in the first place. It would be for web browsing and that's pretty much it.

This makes a lot of sense. 1 port is ridiculous. They needed to make the MBA with retina screen, thinner, gold, added USB C, AND left other ports.

Instead, they give us goose egg. Bump you Apple! I'm seriously PO'd right now.

You're way overestimating Jony Ive. I'd be very surprised if the decision to take out all the ports wasn't made before Ive was tasked with its design.

Your not supposed to play heavy games.. not the target market.

Its lightweight for usage ( ie., don't expect to get much out of say Final Cut Pro ), and supposed to be - forces you - to be ultra portable - that is - including many wired devices - i.e., printer, (wired ) mouse etc all at once.

If you want to connect multiple devices, you do this wirelessly - WIFI / bluetooth.

I was dead set on this but I think I'm going to wait for the first round of reviews. Not having a fan makes me hesitant. I vividly remember the "cook your nuts" Macbook Pro's of the Core 2 Duo era.

Both sad and happy to see MagSafe go away. It has saved my laptop before, but the damn thing never stays in while using it.

Also disappointed in battery life. Only 9 hours? Without fans and a super efficient processor I was hoping for more. Especially as the Air gets 12, oh well I guess the Retina screen eats that up.

PS: Apple, I don't think "All day battery life" means what you think it means.

Looks pretty awesome, but honestly the travel on the keyboard kinda worries me. But we won't know until trying it I guess..

As far as the Watch goes, honestly to me it's just Meh :p. I don't wear watches often, and even If I did the investment for me personally isn't worth it due to the hefty price for the Apple Watch..
