This computer is a waste of people's hard earned money.

To those people that choose to buy it, they disagree with you and think it is not a waste of their money. To those that don't choose to buy it, it is. Exactly the same as all products ever made and sold. But that's the great part, each person gets to decide that for themselves. I know this is a strange concept for many to understand...

Didn't see the negativity coming. This is Apple's cheapest Retina macbook by far, and it's also their thinnest/lightest to boot.

Isn't this a great deal, or am i blind? I mean, it makes the whole macbook air line obsolete!

Only downgrade imo is the removal of magsafe

I like what I see, but I do not want to buy a Rev 1 as i have been burned in the past by Apple with the first MBA 13", then the first MBA 11".

I just recently lost my rMBP, and I think I will find a pre-owned here on MR or via Apple's refurb program.

I think this is my favourite design in a long time. No fan, no ports to damage, amazing screen, light and great battery life. What more do I need on the go? I'd happily well more than happily use this as an addition to my main machine. Sadly I can't afford it right now and also want to wait for DDR4 models this time next year.

Obviously this is not a gaming laptop. Remarks like this and so many others are entirely /facepalm inducing.

If you look at this and think, "But I can't do X," then the simple answer is that this laptop wasn't designed for X. Why does everyone discuss this new computer as if all computers can do all things?

Exactly. I'd say this device isn't designed for many of you reading this post. It's designed for the pretty big majority of normal users who don't use wires very much anymore.

Yes, it's pricey. And it will sell at that price.

We all want the perfect machine. I want an Apple version of the Surface Pro 3. I'll probably get it someday. But this machine fits a much larger population segment than my Apple Surface Pro 3 will. They will make a lot of money, which is what they are all about. And should be.

My thoughts exactly!

Why can't Apple just leave things alone? Everyone just wanted a Macbook Air with a retina screen. They give you the retina screen but take away all the connectivity.

I think it may be safe to assume that they left the MBA line intact, to allow time to see exactly which direction the majority of consumers would prefer. If a large majority chooses the new Macbook over the MBA, i think it's only a matter of time before that line is dropped. For now, they offer the choice.

OMG I'm totally afraid of USB-C!!! I really don't want that in my MacBooks. I don't need a sick-thin Laptop, where I can't plug-in anything!

That's insane – in Schiller's words!

God help us all that'll still have normal USB/HDMI/DP-ports in our "productivity" MacBook Pros until these common ports really phase-out from the market.

I called it at least a year ago that the 12" retina Mac was going to be a MacBook update!!

It looks really awesome, but it's certainly not the Mac for me right now. My late-2013 13" rMBP is perfect. I can agree with people saying it's an iPad with a keyboard

Absolutely not. This is an incredible waste of money for even those willing to spend it. There are people who deny the holocaust. That doesn't mean it didn't happen. Facts are facts.

The ONLY good thing about this computer is that it's gold. That's it.

The problem is the consumer is telling them yes and yes every year, more and more so as the keynote stated.

It's almost biblical - Apple giveth, then it taketh away. :D

"here's that retina screen you've been asking for, but err, you won't be needing these ports any more..."

I know, right!?! Apple listening to the majority of their customers (not the whiny, narrow-minded online forums users) and giving them what they want. The nerve. Apple is doomed.

The problem is the consumer is telling them yes and yes every year, more and more so as the keynote stated.

So many people seem negative....I Actually started screaming when I realised that they were offering a 265gb and 8gb ram for 1299..... I was expecting a 4gb and 128 for that price...

And I can't wait to get a Space grey MacBook to go with my space grey iPhone ipad and watch

Concerning to me is the SINGLE USB port, which doubles as the charging port. I hope the charger doubles as a powered hub. They should also be raking in the accessory money again with their new port no one uses yet.

The nice thing is it is a standard port so there will be a lot of reasonably priced adapters within the next 6 months. That doesn't help for right now but going forward, it's a good move on Apple's part.

I don't have a clue why anyone would want this machine.
One external combination usb/charge/vga port, REALLY?

And I thought the watch was bad!

Apple is showing signs of post Jobs for sure now!

You think you are entitled to tell other people whether their purchasing decisions are a waste of money or not. Wow. Completely subjective to each person.
And to bring up the holocaust... how ridiculous. I like Chinese food. If you don't like Chinese food, you are in denial. Some people deny that the holocaust happened. Facts are facts. See how i did that, how i made a stupidly absurd analogy too?

Just seems like an MBA reboot. Hey, it works for Marvel movies. :p
I not only expect the new MacBook will sell well, but it will eventually be perfected.

The original MBA suffered from every one of these complaints, from one port to underpowered to $1700 for THAT?

This machine is from what they learned. People complaining want the refined version.
