You're way overestimating Jony Ive.
Your not supposed to play heavy games.. not the target market.
Its lightweight for usage ( ie., don't expect to get much out of say Final Cut Pro ), and supposed to be - forces you - to be ultra portable - that is - including many wired devices - i.e., printer, (wired ) mouse etc all at once.
If you want to connect multiple devices, you do this wirelessly - WIFI / bluetooth.
Why can't Apple just leave things alone? Everyone just wanted a Macbook Air with a retina screen. They give you the retina screen but take away all the connectivity. Everyone wanted an updated Mini, they gave us a speed and spec bump but took away the upgradeability.
The problem is that Ive has way too much power internally at Apple and no one left to tell him when his **** stinks. He is surrounded by "yes" men. Having absolutely no connectivity so Ive can make the laptop a few millimetres thinner is insanity and evidence of his form-over-function design philosophy taken to the absolute extreme.
No Thunderbolt - so what display is this supposed to connect to? Feels like the keynote was missing something
Hence, underpowered... If you need a less powerful portable solution get an iPad. This is supposed to be a computer on which you'll run real application on.
No fans? How will it not cook itself if you choose to do anything intensive. Like gaming? I'll stick to my Pro ty.
Positives:
Retina
Negatives:
Everything else. I'll stick with my 2011 i5 Air. Its performance is still plenty for what I use it for. The whole "1 port" thing (plus headphone jack) really is a problem for my uses.
This computer is a waste of people's hard earned money.
Why doesn't Apple just call it what it is - an ipad with a keyboard.
1 port, no headphone jack, 12 inch screen, weak processor, $1300 base.
Spray paint a computer gold and call it "revolutionary"
That's messed up.
so if Im charging this macbook but need to charge my iphone as well, I cant do that b/c theres only 1 port?
So charging my macbook, my iphone, and have a flash drive plugged in isnt possible anymore on this macbook without an adapter, correct?
