16gb is nice, but this size will double every six months or so.
So for now I'm perfectly happy with my 8gb. :) I'm in no rush to upgrade.
I'll happily wait a couple of years, by then maybe they (apple and the third party devs) will have a few of my wish-list features implemented & released.

3G, multi megapixel camera, shutter without a 2 second delay, photo rotation-editing/cropping on phone, video & voice recording, safari "open as new page" link features, gps, voice dialing, (fix that damn incoming call interference "Galloping horse" sound), A2dp bluetooth, on phone content management (besides just videos), edge/3g itunes, ipod app with easier sorting (genre by artist or year etc), ipod app with selectable views (album view while viewing by song), bluetooth/wifi syncing, INDUCTION charging, copy/paste, a USEFUL coverflow, ogg vorbis support, SDK (iphone delicious library please?), wifi downloadable apps, longer battery-life, non-recessed headphone-jack, win-syncable notes, flash & java support, calendar syncable with any ical address (google calendar), universal landscape keyboard, "Contacts" not hidden in phone menu (since they're used for email too), maybe even universal cover-flow option (contacts as their pictures?), ability to choose portrait or left/right landscape for videos instead of left-landscape-only, downloadable podcasts ON device, crash/error reporting/log submittal ON device, push email, better speakers, more functionality in YouTube app (commenting system, etc).

Please? ^_^

most of what you're talking about is software and can be done through updates.

For those who have missed it, the restocking fee is 10%, or ~$40.

That's actually a pretty reasonable price, considering that you're returning just to upgrade, not even because you "didn't like it". Consider that:

- they have to pay to "refurbish" it - ship, clean, re-initialize, test, reapply all those little protective stickers
- they now have to re-sell it as "refurbished" (going rate is $349).

I bought my iPod touch *because* it is a WiFi Mobile Device! I'll never buy
another iPod that *doesn't* have WiFi!

Cheers

Same here. It's worth the price because of the Wi-Fi with Safari. Now mail!!:D I love this thing more and more everyday.

But i am dying for a new Nano too.

Any UK prices yet? I keep refreshin the apple site but on the store page doesn't give me any option for the 16gb version, even if on the home page is available

I wouldn't be surprised if they make us wait - certainly for the iPhone as the US had it 6 months before us, Apple aren't gonna wnna upset people by making a "new" version 3 months later.

They mite have to give out £50 gift cards :D

I hate Apple UK pricing.... finally the touch gets enough space to satisfy the majority of consumers but the US 32gb is far cheaper than the UK 16gb?!?!?!?! is ridiculous

well with reseeding 10.5.2 last night there is no way to burn 10,000 dvds and get them in the box and shipped. It seems we are in a holding pattern for another week.

I honestly think $40 is a pretty fair place for a restocking fee. However under these circumstances I think its a little ridiculous.

1) The girl at the apple store was acting weird and kinda had a smirk on her face as I was paying for this last night... as if she knew the better product was being released the following day. ---though thats just paranoia

2) I think its reasonable to wave the fee due to me pouring even more money back into the company. Not to mention past and future purchases. I guess I'm just looking for a bone here...

LMAO...not asking for much are you? May want to change years to decades with this list...Good Luck

New Nanos? We just got the video Nano a few months back.

No... i mean i want to buy the current one. My 1st generation is still working perfectly so i can't justify buying it. Can't even get much for it on ebay. I said i wanted the Nano because i quoted a posting that said he now would only buy an iPod that has Wi-Fi.

The real reasons for the negatives are not because people have just bought one or theirs is 'outdated'...

It's because a lot of people would've liked the choice of the higher capacity at Xmas time. Flash prices haven't changed all that much, hence no price drop on the 8-16.

Why not intro this last October?

They offer 32GB OF RAM on a Mac Pro for goodness sake, (but I doubt anyone would buy it from Apple because of the cost...) But at least the customer has always had the choice.

Why not offer a 64GB Touch now at £500-600? Some (richer than me) might buy it... and they would be giving Apple £600 instead of £329: Everyone's a winner! ;)

I certainly didn't read the buyers guide on this site. I'm only to blame for that... still though. I did google, and there were no indications leading me to believe apple would release the newer model today.

In any case, 40 bucks is nothing, especially since EVERYONE who owns an iPhone or any cell phone, for that matter, should be WRITING IT OFF ON YOUR TAXES!!! Am I right, or am I right....right.....right...right. [Happy Belated Groundhog day y'all]

On a side note...Last week, instead of an iPhone, I just bought a treo 680 since I need the palm OS still and have AT&T and I walked out of the store...with the contract renewal discount...for almost $400 bucks [accessories/software/etc.]

This is the only thing I've been waiting for. Still $500 seems a bit steep. Maybe they'll come down by Sep.

Hi, europe didn't even get the 32GB version. The 16GB version sells for $560. Don't complain ;(

Yes, this is weird. In the tech specs on the danish store it says you can get it in 8,16 and 32GB. Yet you can only buy the 8 and 16GB in the store!? What gives? And how much of price hike do they gather they can take? The 32GB should be priced where the 16GB is now (equivalent to the same 560US$ here).

Has anyone seen whether these upgraded iTouch can finally do mass storage as any other iPod or music device? I guess it doesn't – and since 1.1.3 apparently haven't been hacked yet, I can't even do that to get pseudo-mass storage on the damn thing. Bummer. Guess, I'll have to pass on this one too.

It's like they trick you. They even got more people to buy it after MacWorld. I guess people figured they were safe for awhile. I would have. If i was waiting, i would have gone out the day after the event and bought it. Who would have thought they would have done this today. You're never safe!! I tortured myself in October when i bought my MBP. I'm glad i bought it since they still haven't updated them. I love it just the way it is. Thin enough for me, beautiful screen and very fast.

$40 is something when you factor in that I was planning on spending $399 at this time... now if I want more storage, I'm having to pay $140 instead of waiting 8 hours and just paying the extra $100. Its mostly the principle here. But if given the opportunity to return my iphone for the full amount and buy the 16GB version.... I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Apple today added new models of the iPhone and iPod touch which have double the memory. The new 16GB iPhone is available for $499, while the 8GB model remains at $399. The 32GB iPod touch comes in at $499 while 16GB and 8GB models are priced at $399 and $299, respectively.

The new iPhone and iPod touch models are available immediately.

They're not available in the UK store yet. I wonder why that is? I speculated over on my blog http://www.corpmac.co.uk about this - they simply may be a delay in updating the UK store - or more seriously, we know that the phone hasn't been selling as well in the UK and Europe as predicted - so they may be delaying the 16Gb model's introduction here to allow inventory of the 8Gb model to clear down a bit. I hope that's not the case.

Just Got My 16GB iPod Touch Last Friday Feb 1 - Doh!

Should have seen that coming. Got caught up in the MacWorld Fever. Twice as much RAM for only a $100 premium. Bummer. Plus mine's engraved so no chance to exchange it. Anyone want it for $349 OBO PM me.

wow... I literally JUST bought the 8GB version last night at the apple store.... I can't believe no one said anything. I even checked macrumors yesterday to see if there were any leaks on the 16GB version. Wow, I'm kind of upset.

I can tell you honestly, as a former Apple Store employee, in the vast majority of cases, they really do not know about product updates far in advance of the general public. We'd usually find out things just before the store opening in the morning, if a new product delivery had been made and blessed to be opened that day. (The tales you've heard are correct; there's a lot of confidential, secret squirrel type stuff going on within Apple, and retail employees are close to last when it comes to foreknowledge about new products, but have the burden of confidently explaining them to the public.) The stock guys at the stores can infer something if they get really low on something with no signs of replenishment of that item, but even that's something of a crapshoot. (e.g., the 16GB iPhone didn't replace the 8GB)

Surprised that this update came in underneath the radar of the rumor sites . . . we even used the rumor sites to have some idea of what might be on the horizon!
