The 8GB Touch is still the same price as before.

Like Politics the original poster would rather react before doing research.

Maybe Apple should do a parody commercial of people freaking out and later realizing they were wrong and put it up on YouTube. That might alienate a lot of people, but what's better than letting the entire world get a good laugh of knee jerk reactions?

There's no reason you need to upgrade the storage capacity of your iPhone or Touch for apps. Most apps will be on the order of hundreds of kilobytes. The largest will barely break a meg. Unless you're planning on installing a few thousand applications, the storage capacity is nearly irrelevant for apps.

I understand your bitterness. But what if you shelled out nearly 3k for a macbook pro and within 4-5 weeks it was updated?

It sucks, but it is still a great product. Learn to wait for new releases then buy.

Chad.

I shelled out $1800 (education discount) for a MBP last year only to see the May upgrade done 5 weeks later. The only thing I was mildly annoyed at was the extra gig of memory. But I knew the risk when I bought it. I needed a MBP then, so I got it. Still works swimmingly!

What pees me off is that investors think that Apple won't sell 10 millions iPhones at this rate.
At this rate no, but they don't realise a 3G one will probably be out in the summer.

Internet echo tube at it again.

Less people use 3G than everyone thinks... like the thing with the macbook air recently about the optical drive, ports, or something... it's easier to hear the bad than the good. Easier to ask for more than turn stuff down.

Sad thing is, when the 3G version is released, we'll still have people complaining about how the iPhone isn't fast enough. (Not saying you personally FoxyKaye, just using your post as a starting point.)
Well, nothing will be as fast as plain old WiFi, but you're point's true. The Bay Area is a huge 3G area, so in my mind I justify it by saying, "You wanted 3G and here it is. At least if I'm still frustrated with slow load speed, it's on the fastest network available right now."

Of course, places like Japan are 10 years ahead of us on this kind of thing, so I'll be more interested in seeing how the iPhone is received over there when it launches (which would require 3G, since there's no EDGE over there AFAIK). Actually, isn't Japan also phasing out 3G for something faster?

I hope you're wrong, although I don't think your prediction is implausible...

I am surpised you haven't seen any Classics in the wild--I see them everywhere, although they seem to be less common than nanos and shuffles.

I just got a classic 160 and I'll need all the room for lossless music. I hope to get 5000-6000 tracks on there.

Ray

I have an iphone and a 160g ipod classic - my music collection is about 120gig so by time have added pics my classic is full

I'm hoping (and think they will) they bring out a 250g or even a 320g classic next

For the record, I hope I'm wrong too. I think that until flash gets much bigger and much cheaper there's room for both the classic and the touch. But that said, I don't think it's the direction apple is going. They love multi-touch and the the fullscreen ipod touch/iphone experience. And people who have itunes libraries over 100 GB are still few and far between.

When apple first went to flash (shuffle and nano) the capacities were very small and HD based players were still clearly necessary. 32 GB is still not big enough to drop the hard drives entirely, but for the first time I can see the day when it happens on the horizon. The classic may survive for one more generation (120/250??), but IMO that's the longest HD players are going to last. Once flash gets to 128 GB and above the classic is a goner.

OKAY

I take back everything I just said.

My dad emailed me the story and he said Apple got rid of the 8GB model. My Dad got the story wrong.

Sorry, sorry, sorry.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I guess I should've read the article first

God, I feel like such an arse right now.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

For anyone on O2 that wants to upgrade then you can just buy a new iPhone, swap the SIMs and then connect to iTunes and do a 'lite' activation (ie no need for credit card/bank details/etc) ...

There is no new contract or penalty ...

As easy as it should be (and to be fair) as they said it would be ...

The extra storage is nice, I guess.

But seriously, you would think that a company of Apple's liking would know that the iPhone seriously needs 3G. It should have came with 3G in the first place.

A 16GB iPhone, with 3G and an application that allows Blutooth Teathering to my MacBook Pro and I would be sold. I can happily get rid of my Kaiser Windows Mobile phone for an iPhone like that.

Could someone please tell me why this is negative? Man, go back to Windows and Motorola if you are all so unhappy with Apple.

OK lets sum the thread up:

a) Apple has released two new models at a higher price than before for extra memory.

b) The existing products cost the same.

c) In the last 3 years Apple has done its major iPod updates in September/October, so you shouldn't expect a new iPhone model until then. That new model will have 3G as Steve announced at Macworld 07 that that was a missing feature.

These lead to a final point.

Whining about it is lame/pointless and doesn't accomplish anything.

If I drive 20 minutes east, I am out of the 3G coverage area. I'm still waiting for it since Atlanta has plenty of coverage, but EDGE is kinda like the dial-up of wireless data. It's not as fast, but it sure is in a lot more places.

Once 3G hits the iPhone, people will be complaining about the lack of WiMax for the 2 or 3 WiMax towers in the country that may or may not work. :)

Hit yourself over the head with the 8GB Touch until it breaks. Then go buy a 32GB model and you'll feel better. :D

Upgrading iPod Touch/iPhone RAM?

I just read the discussion on the previous page re: capacity - anyone think that there might just develop a viable after-market upgrade by somebody? It's just flash RAM soldered to the mainboard, any competent company could unsolder and upgrade it, no? Look at the after-market upgrades available for the Pismo, for example, or even the Power Macs. Just a random thought - if the price was right.

How does Apple explain these prices over here in Germany??!!

iPhone 16GB 499$ = 499€
iPod Touch 32GB 499$ = 459€

Can´t they calculate?!?!

Do international prices in threads annoy anyone else as much as they do me? Unless you're going to include the exchange rate calculated into American dollars, then WHO CARES! And to spare the subsequent replies....yes I'm an ignorant American.

In another thread, I put an expansion slot as a wish for the iPhone. The RAZR I have has a MicroSD slot behind the battery. Why can't Apple put in an itty bitty slot on the side somewhere for such a card? That would make the iPhones (and iPod Touch) have a lot longer usability life.

Whining about it is lame/pointless and doesn't accomplish anything.

Particularly since the lack of 3G is something APPLE KNOWS ABOUT, gave a valid reason why they didn't put it in the device and isn't a feature they just said "hey, we don't like that so we won't include it" about, unlike genuine things being missed out of Apple products.

Why did he call it "WiFi Mobile Device" instead of iPod?

Silly little monkey! People want iPods not "WiFi Mobile Devices," if you try to rebrand it like that you'll kill it.

Wifi Mobile Devices -- WMDs???

wow 32gb is good. waaay to expensive tho, outa my league.

i want mbp :( maybe on the 12th??

I guess I was in the wrong league. I was an "early adaptor" who paid the original $600....PLUS......a $150 early termination fee to Sprint.

$750 total

(at least I got my $100 store credit)

Has anyone done a restore of profile on a different size iPhone? i.e going from 4/8 GB to 8/16 GB. I don't see why you would have to reactivate, it should be no different to firmware upgrades (just check to make sure your service is valid).
