Dear complainers -

This thread is for iPhone. If you're here to insert your comment about the lack of MBP's, believe us, we've heard it. The only source you have that one is even in the pipe is MacRumors, which is hardly Apple's official outlet, so it's difficult to justify getting upset about something that Apple hasn't announced.
This I agree with! Desires related to the MBP should not be in a i devices thread.
Twice the memory costs (about) twice as much. There has to be a price increase, as the price of this type of memory hasn't really gone down much in the last year. Hense, the price increase.
This I disagree with as frankly the price of flash has been falling continuously. 32GB of flash should be costing Apple about $100 total.
The reason for no 32GB iPhone yet is, if I recall, the radio for the cellphone takes up physical space, so there's not room for a second set of chips.
There is all sorts of speculation or you can believe Steve'O if you want with respect to the reasoning. I suspect that the reality is a combination of things that Mr. Jobs has highlighted and things that he has kept close to the chest. In part I believe they are waiting on more than just a low power radio chipset.
These are only my opinions.

Good to have opinions!

As this is my first post in this thread I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with these updates. Mostly due to the price increases which I believe are not justified at all considering what has been happening in the flash market place.

I think this is great news! I still think the iphone is the best ipod!
Am I wrong or is there still no physical volume rocker on the touchpod?
I think that is a big mistake. I can take my iphone to the gym put it on my hip and still turn the music down, the multitouch is great but a pain to turn down volume with imo.
16 gig iphone is in my sites!:D

Particularly since the lack of 3G is something APPLE KNOWS ABOUT, gave a valid reason why they didn't put it in the device and isn't a feature they just said "hey, we don't like that so we won't include it" about, unlike genuine things being missed out of Apple products.

Is battery life a real reason not to include it? Apple should have offered both chipsets and let us decide. I'd have sacrificed an hour or 2 of talk time to have 3G. You can always turn off your 3G if you really needed to maximize your 5,000,000 min talk time.

Do international prices in threads annoy anyone else as much as they do me? Unless you're going to include the exchange rate calculated into American dollars, then WHO CARES! And to spare the subsequent replies....yes I'm an ignorant American.

Yeah I miss the speakers when using my wife's iPod. A speaker is great for sharing part of a song or movie etc with a few others on the go.

I think they should ban them, they are mostly used by Chavs on buses, and they shouldn't be encouraged.

Just as I thought. This was just the minor upgrade that was supposed to be announced at macworld to hold us over until iphone 2.0 is introduced. That phone is not coming out until later in the year. A lot of stuff in fact didn't get debuted at macworld like they were supposed to.
So you have a choice now. Buy the upgraded capacity version of the iphone 1.0 or touch now or wait til later in year for version 2 of the iphone.

Just what is the "lot of stuff in fact" you refer to?

I can't understand why people still care about this. The SDK is coming out this month. Honestly, what 3rd party app do you need so badly that dealing with the current firmware for a few weeks is so horrible?

It is really more a case of the freedom to make use of a device that YOU OWN in a manner you see fit.

The other problem with the SDK is that it appears that Apple will be restricting the software in some matter or form. Obviously it is all speculation at this point how restrictive that will be, but there are key applications that just cry out for full access. Imagine something like Skype on the iPhone.

Even if Apple released a totally unrestricted SDK people are still going to want alternatives. Just like people on PC's and Macs reach for different development environments based on needs and their abilities. The other thing to consider is that some simply reject the business model that AT&T and Apple are engaged in. In effect Apple and AT&T see the purchasers of these devices as revenue streams, to be frankly drained as much as possible.

I guess I was in the wrong league. I was an "early adaptor" who paid the original $600....PLUS......a $150 early termination fee to Sprint.

$750 total

(at least I got my $100 store credit)

Lucky, I paid for a 8Gb and 4Gb phone plus termination for 2 sprint lines, the day after the phones were released. (So what is that $1400?)

I havent had time to read 18+ pages, but to the people who are complaining that Apple screwed them on their iPhones and iPod touches... YOUR iPhone is still $399. YOUR iPod touch is still $299 or $399. They added a higher-end model for $100 more.

Apple's pricing structure on either of these products has not changed one cent.

Which exchange rate? Either 499$ equal 499€ or 459€!!!

But for you: 1$ = 0.63€, so 499$ = 340.67€ without VAT
+ 19% VAT = 405,35€!!

And yes, you´re right...

If you own a DVD-burner, does that mean you should have the freedom to create illegal DVDs for sale on the black market?

There are tons of smartphones out there. Iffn you don't like what Apple has, go get a BlackBerry or Palm

The fact that the 32GB drive iPod is $499 makes one really think the 64GB SSD in the MacBook Air is way over priced!

I agree with you totally. I have been thinking this ever since I first started reading this post 5 hrs ago.

I am sure that the technology differs from the laptop SSDs but I wouldn't think it to be too much, let me know if I am wrong.

Thank you... Apple adds something new or improves something else and the bitch fest begins.

OMG... did you actually mean that or are you just kidding???

Americans... Being a canadian, I love visiting your country but sometimes I just wanta smack everyone of ya!

I just bought an 8gb iPhone on Saturday. Opened it, haven't set it up yet or even turned it on!

Called AT&T, they are enforcing the 10% restocking fee. So for $151.09 more (8% tax here) I can get the 16gb iPhone. Hard to say whether it's worth it or not.

Reguardless it's obvious that this is the upgrade to hold us over for a while. 3g is coming, we all know that but it's not coming in June. Potentially the end of the year. Apple will wanna make as much as they can off the $499 16gb iPhone.

Damn Canadians, they assume everyone of us just as bad as the worst American they've encountered.

That's why I hate all Canadians.
