Well I never said I could spell. ;)

usually in canada we don't label things as Canadain or not... we don't put canadain flags to say that something is canadian or not. And I was in the UK and Mexico (briefly i'll admit) and it didn't seem like they do that either? (correct me if i'm wrong on that).

I guess I find it odd when americans feel the need to label things as american when they really could apply to any part of the world.

But hey, If its only a small handful of americans to do things like that... then hey, i'll apologize, sorry for offending people.

Sorry, I didn't realize Santa was truly from Canada. I can see how that could be offensive.

"Apple come on we don't need gadgets we need an updated MBP!!!!!"

"This is so stupid where is Penryn?!?!"

That is because there isn't a difference except for possibly speed grades. What a SSD does have is a controller chip to interface the FLash to the chosen I/O bus and possibly handle wear leveling. Dave

So does Compact Flash (in fact it is seen by at least windows as a plain ATA device when plugged in via a PC Card reader). So why is SSD so much more expensive?

Why is it practically every big thread like this turns into some sort of flame war...

In this case the whole American vs. Canadian thing!

Personally I don't see why you bother, everyone knows england is the best!
(Yeh, definately a joke just incase some thought I was trying to stir this all up again!)

Anywho, on topic. I think this is a great announcement allowing people with a large library of music to finally carry it all around with them and some films to watch on the lush screen!

Awesome news, but as others have said, no way can I afford a $499 iPod. Should've kept the same prices.

No I'm not kidding. How many of the people reading this thread know what£499 is equal to?? If you're going to b*tch about this so called international price gouging...give me something to equate to that MOST readers understand.

It was a price comparison between the iPhone and the iTouch. You wouldn't even need to "translate" it in way, form or fashion. Just see how little difference there is between the two.
Further, if you really want to check what the difference is in your local currency, how about using that widget of yours or look it up.
How ridiculous is it to demand that everyone caters to your needs, just because you can't be bothered (or are incapable of?) to look something like this up? How about getting over that island-thinking of yours?

And im done.

Good. Now go widen your horizons.

how does this work if you already have an iphone, out of curiosity. do you just stick in the old sim and you're good to go? or to you have to reactivate and get a whole new contract?

OMG... did you actually mean that or are you just kidding???

Americans... Being a canadian, I love visiting your country but sometimes I just wanta smack everyone of ya!

The majority is not like that but unfortunately in the US the ignorant get center stage quite often. Hence Gw bush.:D

Currently I see he price of SSD to be one of the biggest rip offs in computing. Yeah it is more expensive than standard disk drives but there is a lot of profit being taken right now. Maybe the manufactures see this as the way to recoup their development expenses.

All I know is that I'm not to please with the price increase of the 32GB Touch. Luckily I'm waiting for the SDK to come before I decide to buy into a Touch product. IT gives me some time to think and budget.

Dave

Makes sense - thanks!

Wow!

I was just kidding about hating Canadians. I though the sarcasm was obvious. A statement like "all", I thought, would give that away.

Guess not.

Sorry I offended you.

I guess there will always be someone that can't figure out the online currency calculators. They probably are from Boston or something most of the time. Not all Americans are that way. Actually, I think it's a loud few, for example, our president.

Sarcasm -- AND, I think it's horrible that there were picture of american flags in the magazine on the plane you took from the USA... I find that funny that bothers you.

Cheers - My flame and apology.

Probably from Boston?? I'd say Boston is one of the most educated cities in the world! Your sarcasm is the worst. Just acknowledge the truth and move on...

P.s: I love how people equate what I said with GW Bush...people will use any opportunity to interject their conservative bashing eh?!

OR they're hoping to ditch the 8GB models, will drop the 16GB to $399, then release 32GB model with 3G for $499. People who paid $600 a year ago will burn Steve Jobs at the stake.

Why would they burn Steve at the stake? - I bought my 8GB iPhone at launch for $600 and don't expect anything from Apple - the $100 refund was nice but really wasn't expecting anything.

What will really happen is that all those early adopters will once again be early adopters of the 32GB 3G model at $499 or even $599. Apple knows that early adopters want the latest and greatest and we will all pay for it and dump our old 8GB Edge phone on Craigslist or give it to a family member.

This 16GB upgrade will surely get more than a few people to trade in their 8GB phone for this.

In the end its good for Apple - they sell a new high-end fat profit margin iPhone to its existing fan base and all those used iPhones will most likely get re-activated as a new iPhone ATT lines which will generate more money for Apple given their contract with ATT.

Now if only AAPL stock would go back up...

Besides the muti-touch trackpad, what is Apple realistically going to update in the Macbook Pro? Yes, maybe Penryn processors, but if that incremental speed boost is what stands between u and a macbook pro purchase, i'd say screw it and just buy it.....you are never going to always have the "latest" hardware/software, get over it already!!!

MacRumors buyers guide says to hold off on buying. There is a big difference between being in the beginning, middle, or end of a product or update cycle. It's not that we always need the latest but we don't want to buy just before an update.
However, if you have inside info that this MBP update is just another minor speed bump, please share this with Arn and the MacRumors community.

what the..??

Apple today added new models of the iPhone and iPod touch which have double the memory. The new 16GB iPhone is available for $499, while the 8GB model remains at $399. The 32GB iPod touch comes in at $499 while 16GB and 8GB models are priced at $399 and $299, respectively.

The new iPhone and iPod touch models are available immediately.

ok..someone please explain to me...how do they charge $499 for the touch with 32Gb of NAND flash and charge a grand for 64GB flash memory for the air..????
i mean...the touch is still thinner!!!

Santa

Santa needs the american flag on his sleigh so they don't think he is a terrorist.... and shoot his A$$ off. Can't have him slammin his sleigh into any tall buildings. I heard over christmas the US airforce scramble some F18 fighters to escort him through american air space. He also needs a passport... Canadian should do I think. :p

On the Mac front 32 Gig iPod here I come.

P.S. Why I paying more for the IPod when my dollar is worth more than the american dollar?

Several good points:

Boston is good.
I used Boston because it's where you are in your name tag. You are right, the majority of people in Boston are well educated. Personally, I like the city in the summer.

Bush is bad.
I just think he's one of the dumbest people to become a US president. I'm probably not alone in that thought. Just my opinion. But you're right, nothing to do with this line of discussion. I like to rant about him.

More relevant:
With your superior education, you should be able to do some basic math. In fact, in Boston with all those educated people around, get one of them to help you. The world does not conform to everything being in dollar figures.

If you are too lazy to do the math, ignore the post.

Do international prices in threads annoy anyone else as much as they do me? Unless you're going to include the exchange rate calculated into American dollars, then WHO CARES! And to spare the subsequent replies....yes I'm an ignorant American.

why should anyone convert anything into american dollars as if that's the only currency that can be understood?

this is an international forum, not a US forum. this reminds me of the forum member who posted that he was sick of reading about o2 in relation to the iphone and that the iphone forum should be restricted to US users.

No I'm not kidding. How many of the people reading this thread know what£499 is equal to?? If you're going to b*tch about this so called international price gouging...give me something to equate to that MOST readers understand.

And im done.

i don't need to know what £499 is equal to in any other currency; i spend pounds every day along with many many other forum members.

are you seriously suggesting that all currencies mentioned should be converted into other currencies so that MOST readers will understand? perhaps we should poll the top 10 currencies used by forum members and insist that all posts mentioning money are converted into each of the currencies.

That's weird, what is the Canadian price?

An iPod @ 32GB for FIVE-HUNDRED DOLLARS?

Holy bejeezus, Apple is making 250% profit, I'm sure, at least.

That price is just astronomical. I'll stick with my 16GB touch.

I agree with you mostly....however im merely stating the fact that most people will not know what he/she means if its not in American currency. And yes, I know the whole world is not bases on dollars, but it is the international standard between all developed nations (and the euro sort of.)
Apple is an American company, right??

Apple is smart, people are going to rush out and purchase this new iPhone for the added space, and then when the iPhone 2 is released they are going to go out and buy that phone. Apple knows how to make profits.
