Sometimes, whining works

The local Apple Store is going to allow me a swap on my two iPhones despite being one day out of the return window. So I'll stop whining now and start laughing.

We sincerely hope so. :D

You said it, not me.

haha, yes. He even capitalises "American". How is that for patriotism?

On topic: I don't get these iTouches. Why haven't they incorporated disk mode!? Why!

Seriously, that is a massive step-down in usability from my point of view. I guess they want it to be an "iTunes-only" kind of thing. Blah!

A bit of an unusual pattern that Apple doesn't give you more storage/power for the same price. That has usually been what they have done.

On a few other occasions they straight out drop the price. Does anyone remember a product upgrade where all they did was add a more powerful item at a higher price.

I'm not one of them, and I'm pretty sure that there are many many 16gb Touch owners that would agree with me. Very happy with the capacity I have, I don't run into storage problems - I take what I need and will realistically use. I have 10 movies, 1,200 songs (all 192kbit+) and 240 photo's, with Jailbroken apps over 3 pages and I still have just under 5gb spare. :)

However, I am suprised and pleased a 32GB version is out. Will quell the silly arguments I get about the storage being too 'small'. However the price... lol

Yeah, i see what you are saying. I am a realistic guy, and I could do well with a 16 GB also, but I would hate to ever have to go through my iPod experience as if i had a new shuffle, which i have for the past two years (1st and 2nd generations). You never know when you might go on an album-buying tirade! lol

Surprisingly, there don't seem to be specs on the 32 GB iPod....

Not that it is really crucial, being that there already are specs on the 8GB and 16GB Touches.

Just sayin'....

Well this is great news. The 8GB capacity was never quite enough for me. It was either 5GB of music, all my photos, and no video, or only 3GB of music, some photos, and some videos; or lots of videos, all my photos, and almost no music.

Now it can be 5GB of music, all my photos, and a handful of videos! :D

October because that's when the ipods are updated? They released the first one in June, I figured a yearly full update (not just extra memory). Is the rumor they will shift to be at the same time as the ipods?

Most phones do not get a new make every year. I think the unannounced release of the 16gb iPhone, though expected, is a way to tide people people over until later in the year (October-ish) when the 3g, 32gb iPhone will come out. The design will be slightly different as others have noted so that you will physically be able to tell the difference between iPhone1 and iPhone2.

Think about it.... not only will it be better internally, but externally it will look different then your version 1 so everyone will know what verison you have.

.....and then you will go buy iPhone 2:)

Hmm, so we could (at least in theory) still be getting disk mode?

What? No disk mode where you can store any type of file on it like the iPod classic? The iPod Touch doesn't have this? That is lame.

I think there is already third party software that does that, I forget the name, but it was like $20.

Since it is software, I would think that SDK apps, or future software updates could offer this capability.

It would be cool, though, with an iPT 32GB flash-based drive, to run Mac OS 10.5.2, or whatever as an external mac boot disk via it's dock cable. I certainly would like it. I've tried it on older HDD based iPods, but it is pretty slow. I have used it to boot a "thin" installation of Mac OS, with diagnostic utilities, for IT support. Kinda handy.

Flash would not have so much trouble with speed, if the USB2 connection is full speed between the hardware devices.

Well, since you bought two, maybe you should saw both of them off. Yeah, picture that! :D
Now would that be with the foot saw or would he have to get out a tooth saw:eek:
Which do you go for first... right or left

The iPod Touch is a realistic proposition for me now as 32GB is plenty. The iPhone is just... well the same thing with a bit more storage. Still not worth the money just now.

Still no hard disk in the touch, so no sale for me... 32GB still doesn't cut it. I was hoping the Flash-only Touch was just a tease for the Christmas season, but it's starting to look like they're serious about it.

Waiting until October to update the iPhone would be suicide. They need to get something out in the next month or two to be taken seriously.
