Apple Announces $3 Billion Beats Acquisition, Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre Joining the Company

Think positive. We are talking about future growth potential here. The fact Apple went thru with this deal, despite some premature leaks by the 'acquisitees', kind of indicates that this was a well-thought out strategy, that Apple was fully intending on carrying out despite possible roadblocks.
I trust Tim and the executive team to know what they are doing.

People have been predicting doom and gloom for Apple for its entire existence. I remember forum posters whining that the iPod was the "end of Apple".

I can't believe you said that. Dre is old too.
So, Dre isn't really a billionaire like he said in his now infamous video, then? Another article on this site suggests he'll cop for $750m from this deal through his stake in the company, and I find it hard to believe he's presently worth the additional $250m.
OK, he'll never have money worries - but still, false advertising!

Oh don't start with the bollox. I'm black, and I congratulate Dr. Dre and Mr. Iovine. I look forward to seeing what they produce with Eddy Cue and co. in the future.

I agree. I think this was a package deal (and loyalty to Dre).
They did this to get Iovine and his ties to the music industry and also to help them get into TV (I'm sure Iovine can apply his music know how to TV deals for content).
Next in the process was the streaming service. I'm sure they wanted this a little just to improve iTunes/matching/etc.
Finally Dre and the rest of Beats was just part of the package, kinda like when you marry someone and you basically get the in-laws. You didn't marry the in-laws, you just get them in the deal.
It's not bollox. There will be plenty of hip hop black stars and also black liberal commentators in media that condemn this deal and call him a sell out.

So now that it's happened- now that a rumor is reality- let's see how long until the collective sentiment swings to "best headphones ever", "far superior to <other audio brands 'we' were saying Apple should buy instead>", etc. Will that swing be measured in days, weeks or months?

This should be a must read for all the haters. Jimmy is a great asset to Apple and this is why Apple bought Beats...
i disagree with all the naysayers. i think this was a good decision.
while i despise beats quality and durability for the price, the people that sell that stuff are incredible in marketing to get where they have. Iovine is a perfect fit for apple, and there will be much stronger bridges between apple and the music industry now than there were before. the inevitble streaming service to come from apple is the future at this rate, and Beats is more apple-esque version of spotify. it has people invested in algorithms that reminded of the same effort apple make in their products.
in simple terms, itunes sales are falling, and Iovine is a steve jobs of music. so its a perfect combo.
as for Beats, the best thing they could get from apple is a kick up the bum for better quality headphones and durability.
the worse thing apple could do with beats is brand anything of theirs with that brand.

Great deal. Excited to see what comes out of this. All the armchair analysts can way their words when this works out great.
This has NOTHING to do with their equipment. Why do people keep thinking Apple wants BEATS for their gear?
This was about Iovine and BEATS/DRE was part of the package deal.
