I feel like Apple has taken three huge steps. One laterally and two backwards.

Usually, I feel inspired and compelled to buy, but with this keynote I feel ... absolutely nothing.

At this point, I think Apple should just change their name to something else. They simply aren't the same company I fell in love with so many decades ago.

I thought so too until I considered that the non-LTE version is close enough in features and price to the series 2 that either the series 2 would be too popular or too expensive to make at the $250 price point.

Ahm .. and the previous screen/back gesture is where? Oh it's still a < Back button residing inside the header. Unbelievable how they didn't think this through.

If you are going to rip off Palm/Nokia/Blackberry then at least do it right. iPhone X manages to become worse in usability than all three of them by having a weird mixture of onscreen swipes for basic OS navigation while still some of the basic OS functions reside on screen as pixel buttons and use of hardware keys where you still have to tap two times. three times, hold and what not to get to something.

Probably shouldn't point to 3 dead companies for your example of a better phone.

Pretty cool. Sure it has a lot of comprimises, but it’s got to start somewhere. Can’t wait until 1-2 years this stuff will be standard and perfected, which is what they’re aiming for.

For $1000 it feels very beta/unfinished.

Why they bothered with an iPhone 8 i don't...well i guess they're struggling to make the X but really who would want an 8 over the X

So they can upsell you better.

This way "new iPhones start at ..." can still be said with a straight face and as the wishes of the customer get interviewed you sneak in the higher price points gradually.

At this point I want them to go as high as humanly possible on this stuff so it eventually blows up in their face and we can have reasonable pricing again.

It wasn't a buggy phone for crying out loud. Clearly the first phone he grabbed had been rebooted at some point, and just like with Touch ID you have to enter your passcode to get in the first time. He probably blanked on the passcode and that's why he grabbed the spare.

Face ID.... Touch ID can be used without even looking at the phone or on a flat surface.

It will look like everyone is taking selfies all the time just to unlock their phone.

Face ID is slower than touch ID. (that's even if it works the first time. Thanks Federichi!) The notch is distracting. Jobs wouldn't have approved that.
