I’m actually OCD and maybe it’s my medication, but the notch doesn’t bother me.
You're OCD, so what? Do you spend you're time observing the environment for imperfections? And if you perceive them then what? "Oh I don't like that, it's not correct" Get over yourself that you've blessed a phone.

Said it for months.. there's nothing new here. It's a greatest hits package with a couple remixes.. I can't see a reason to buy any of today's items except.... the new sport loop bands. Went ahead and put my order in for the black one, will be here Friday. Next year's keynote is the one to watch and drool over.

What are the overall dimensions of the X vs 8 plus and 8? I mean is X no bigger overall than 8 plus?

I noticed they didn't show the screen of the 8 and 8 Plus at all. I guess they wanted to make the X's screen stand out even more. Maybe they thought the 8's screen in a presentation would actually look better because it is squared off at the top. OR maybe it's the opposite. 8's screen would look too old if they showed it because I just saw it on the webpage and it does look dated already once you have seen the X's screen.

Also are we going to be able to slide up from the bottom to go to home screen on the iPhone 8/8 Plus too? It would be nice but maybe that's X exclusive especial

To be fair, I think that Face ID failed the first time because he had just turned the phone on. It says in the image 'Your passcode is required to enable Face ID.' So it might be the same rule as Touch ID that you need to enter your passcode the first time you turn your phone on in order for Touch ID to work?

FaceID had better be flawless. Didn't work too well during the demonstration. Te second time, he tried it, I wasn't that impressed with the speed. The idea I have to raise and authenticate is not as convenient as just touching as I raise to unlock. But I'm sure I'll get used to it. I wish he would have demonstrated how it would work on a flat table. THat's the other situation where I wouldn't want to have to raise the phone in order to access it.

They didn't dispel my one concern that ApplePay won't work without looking at the phone during the transaction. In many cases, the POST is away from my face.

EDIT: never mind -- the second demonstration with Apple Pay showed that it can be authenticated before extended to the POST. It's not as convenient as Apple Pay is with Touch ID now, but it might actually be more reliable. I do wonder how quickly the Face Authentication will time out though. That could get tricky.
I like the face id better than touch. For me particularly, the touch id does not work all the time. I have sweaty hands and as a result the touch button gets dirty very quick and does not recognize my finger print..so i endup having to polish the button off or just enter pass code.
Also if my hand/fingers are wetter than a certian degree same thing happens ..touch id does not work.

So as long as face id can detect my face from reasonably varied angles.. it should would be a better solution for me

I think some of the awe factor has been taken out of the X presentation because there are already phones with edge to edge displays and OLED. The phone looks like all the other phones to me. I am more interested to see what iOS 11 looks like. I'm keeping my 7 plus.

So when he first picked up the iPhone X it failed to unlock for him, then he tried again, failed again. Then he put that phone down and tried another which unlocked but it wasn't as fast as TouchID, not even close.

Dreadful. I often buy new iPhones that have big new features. iPhone 3GS, 4S, 5, 6 and 7 I purchased. But this? It's not even about price I don't care about it being $1000+. This iPhone just feels half baked. The really crappy looking camera bump that bad top notch above the screen.. and the janky Face ID.

I'm sure it'll still sell out, I'm probably in the minority with my thoughts like most of the time lol but for me this is a swing and a miss.

Agree. Got a perfectly functional 6 and I saw nothing tonight that would make me fork out the money for either the 8 or the X. But then again, I'm an old fart :D, not a snowflake. I don't play games on a phone, I don't care for a turd mimicking my face which is turdy enough as it is, I don't watch movies on a less than a 42" screen. So nice. But for me, the question is: why??

One thing I saw in the event is unlocking with wet fingers. Something currently not possible with Touch ID. But probably will be possible with Face ID. Current Touch ID is almost too sensitive and too fast anyways ('premature unlocking, LOL). If Face ID works with sunglasses, goes around wet fingers, and is faster than Gen 1 Touch ID. I think it's a winner.

The on-stage fail by Craig is not Face ID fail. Seems to be that the phone was fresh rebooted and needed a passcode to 'Enable Face ID'. So yes, like the other poster said, it's a setup fail, not a Face ID fail.

How iOS will take care of the rounded corner and notch spacing will be the make or break on whether this thing is worth $999 for me. Pricing-wise from Apple it make sense. They can't make enough of this thing anyways. It's quite possible that once supply catches up they lower it by $100 or so.

Pre-order is still a bit of time away. We can see how the reviews comes in from Verge and the like and reserve judgement until then.

I believe the FaceId failing on his first attempt during the demonstration may in fact be because his face wasn’t actually in the phone, that is why it didn’t unlock for him. Accidents do happen as it may have been an oversight when they were setting up

By calling this the "iPhone X (Ten) and skipping 7S to iPhone 8, what is going to happen next year, iPhone 9 or 11 or go by the model year like they do with Mac releases......
Maybe they could go back to when Mac OS releases were named after big cats -- except, they could use animoji names instead. "iPhone Talking Poop" has a -- ring -- to it.
