Or the iphone 9 never exists, and next year they go to the X and the 11.
No, they won't call those phones with 5 years old design 11 when the new one is called X(10). Most probably it'll be 9 or 8s depending on how fast they want to abandon those models.

Very similar to BlackBerry 10, circa January 2013. Swipe up to unlock even from a blank screen, swipe up for multitasking, slide from the left to go back in apps, swipe from the top to get system toggles or settings, etc. I always loved how BB10 worked from that standpoint, no home button taking up space on the screen or bezel and it works very smoothly. Had a couple Z10's and now a BB Classic I keep around for the OS and as a spare and I still enjoy using it.

Glad Apple took it and ran with it as I like this implementation.

Nokia N9 immediately jumps out as the inspiration to me.

It truly is a beautiful and exceptional device. I am ordering on Friday.

iPhone X is the best phone Apple has ever made.

They'll be accepting preorder in late October, so you're a month and a half away from placing an order. And probably several months away from actually holding one in your hands.

I can't believe this big crowd gathering around a... phone release! A p-h-o-n-e! What's next? A kitchen coffee maker event? GEEEZ... Humanity is going backward and fast. And this "we make peoples life better". I'm sorry Apple, you DON'T make my life better. And no phone will, ever. Neither an Apple TV or watch will. Pfff, still can't believe this. An iPhone mass with a priest celebrating the coming of an iPhone on earth.
lol the amount of hate on this forum is beyond me

You know the smartphone have changed the way we behave as a specie forever right? We have access of the world's information AT OUR FINGER TIPS, anywhere, any time. And vice versa, you have the potential attention of the entire world, inside your pocket.

That is progress.

Same for those complaining about the price. You pay upwards of a thousand bucks for your computer/laptop. And here's a more portable computer that you use WAY MORE. Why can't it cost the same as a computer?

And if you say you don't use your phone that much, simple, don't upgrade or get the much cheaper models.

He didn't do a passcode. He switched to a backup device.

All I know is I thought I saw him entering a passcode to get into the phone. I do recall him saying, now that you mention it, "Let me go to a backup device". Still, it looks bad. It's a good thing most of the general public doesn't watch these keynotes. It'll be interesting to see what the hands-on impressions are of Face ID.

If you're the kind of person who buys a new phone, then I agree that the smarter move may be to buy an 8 Plus.

I keep my phones for at least two years, though. At that rate, I don't think the X is necessarily so bad.

It’s not terrible. It’s got some points of concern in terms of interface and design. Next years model will be the one to get.

This year the 8+ will the safer bet.

Wow, I literally fell asleep during the iPhone 8 demonstration. Impressive how they could ignore how everything had already leaked....
I'll get the X for sure, but we'll see when it's actually available in Spain. The new watch certainly isn't for the time being :(

"5.8-inch Super Retina OLED edge-to-edge display with 2436 x 1125 resolution and 458ppi"

A super Retina screen!

I'm actually more impressed about the way Apple use the edge to edge display. No on-screen buttons, all with gestures. Google can learn from that. I really hate the ugly implementation of Android with on-screen buttons.
I think most people prefer for Android to work like that with the on-screen buttons. Its the simplest way to navigate the user interface without having to reach your finger all the way up the display, especially with phones getting larger.

Regarding the iPhone, it's beautiful.

I love the metal borders and the glossy finish, it looks very high end.

The swipe textures, I'm still doubtful about it. That's the only thing I didn't like, I can think of many ways you swipe by error or by simply using the phone, for example when scrolling a web page or using a swipe intensive app like fruit ninja.

Or get 4 Xiaomi phones and the Xiaomi book pro, better specs and a fraction of the cost. But no Apple logo on it :(
Curiosity, have you ever found apple troll on xiaomi rumor site (if there is any) just wondering why an happy xiaomi customer should spend his time on another phone forum...android must be very boring these days

I love the notch. So often I need to exit an app because I want to see if wifi is connected or remaining battery. If the info always flanks the notch except for in full screen video then that's a huge usability plus for me.

I'd bet the cost of a new iPhone X that the majority of those here at macrumors who are complaining about the notch will buy an X anyways. Reminds me of the reaction to the antenna bands on the 6.

But the face ID? That could be a serious dealbreaker for many. So could the price.

That's what I always thought and of course you have some people who have a "curious" twin as referenced in the introduction.
The difference is that what a person sees as "he looks just like you" is not the same as what a computer sees. Phil noted that the odds of it working are 1 in 1,000,000. That'll only get better with time.

I imagine it will work just fine with sunglasses, since they'll pass through the glass. If it works with regular glasses (and they said it does) I'll be very surprised if it doesn't also work with sunglasses.
