FaceID glitch asside... Someone can hold your phone up to your face and unlock your phone without your consent. I'm not liking that. I suppose you could look away or close your eyes or something. They need to have a means of recognizing a face you make to invoke the phone to require a passcode.

Remember, Apple products are not priced just 'For the Rich', also poor people who won the lottery.

Yep.
That being said, I don't have a price sensitivity.
I've been Android since I switched from my BlackBerry Storm.
The iPhone X is the first one that has made me want to switch.
I bought the Essential Phone from Andy Rubin.
I'm returning it and waiting to buy the iPhone X in October.

The main selling point of this new iphone, are animojis. Think about that for a second. And that animal voices impersonation on stage? Apple has become a parody of itself.

I think the display was actually the selling point.

I just hope the carriers take note they have over a month to get their systems ready.

I'll just use a PIN.

Apple could have, and should have, done better. As I've been saying since 2012, Apple does not have anyone at the top who is paying any attention to the details. Cook is a great bean counter and logistics person, but he sucks at products. So he leaves product decisions up to his minions. I sorely miss that one last critical eye that was Steve Jobs. I've never missed him more than today.

iPhone 8 has no reason to exist and should not have been in the keynote. The iPhone X should have been the only new product announced today, on iPhone's 10th anniversary, and as a replacement for iPhone 7. It should have had the same pricing structure as iPhone 7. At $1,000 I don't see the iPhone X selling in any impressive quantity.

As to FaceID failing the first time during the demo, give them a break! He switched to a backup and it worked fine. Even Steve Jobs had demos fail and was forced to go to a backup device. This is not a valid point of criticism, it is simply something people are picking on because of their disappointments elsewhere.

I'm normally the first to queue up to buy Apple products, but not this time. No Mac Pro in over 4 years, iMac is being completely ignored, and now we get this idiotic iPhone X with a "notch" where there should be screen. And what is all this talk about the phone being "all screen" and having "no bezels". Was I looking at the wrong phone? There is still a border around the screen, I don't see an "all screen" phone.

Overall very disappointed and am concerned for Apple's future if this is the best they can do.
I laugh every time I read something like this because it’s the same thing that’s said EVERY YEAR.

Btw, there isn’t a phone on the market that is all screen. Plus camera & sensors have to go somewhere. That notch isn’t there for the hell of it and can’t be covered up by screen.

iPhone X is only $1529CDN for 256Gb.

$200 more and I could buy a 13" Macbook Pro.

They should have just done a keynote where they laughed at how obsolete desktop computers are, and then told you that the future of desktop computing was the phone.

Did anyone else find it ironic that Apple claims Super Retina Display is an industry leading display when Samsung are the ones producing it! I wonder if there is any difference between their OLED displays?

The notch while watching video is downer for me. That is so weird. :(

Wonder if the the 10s or whatever they call it next year will be available in novernber or earlier. If so the 10 could be a short lived flagship like the 5

It's not "nice" that eyeglasses are supported, it's essential. No one wants to take their glasses off to use a phone.

Do we know that sunglasses aren't supported? It's possible the infrared will suffice, for at least some sunglasses.

It depends on the sunglasses.. so many types.
If polarised lenses with high tint, fairly resistant to infrared.

lol the amount of hate on this forum is beyond me

You know the smartphone have changed the way we behave as a specie forever right? We have access of the world's information AT OUR FINGER TIPS, anywhere, any time. And vice versa, you have the potential attention of the entire world, inside your pocket.

That is progress.

Same for those complaining about the price. You pay upwards of a thousand bucks for your computer/laptop. And here's a more portable computer that you use WAY MORE. Why can't it cost the same as a computer?

And if you say you don't use your phone that much, simple, don't upgrade or get the much cheaper models.

Maybe you use it way more. I do not use a smartphone more than my iPad or MacBook.

The difference is that what a person sees as "he looks just like you" is not the same as what a computer sees. Phil noted that the odds of it working are 1 in 1,000,000. That'll only get better with time.
Actually, he stated those odds based on it getting a false positive with a real person. I don't think that is really a concern for most people. The real concern is if there is a way to trick it using other means. And Apple didn't go into any detail in regards to that.

iPhone X is such a boring design Apple, c'mon. It looks like the first iphone minus the bezels. Display doesn't even get close to the "edge". Really disappointed from a design perspective. Who cares about how you unlock a phone. Yeah!!! Only 1/1,000,000 people will be able to unlock your iphone X with their face but what are the odds the average person ever loses their iphone AND some bad guy tries to open it?The people have been duped. Now the Watch Series 3 on the other hand is something to get excited about!!!

I really wanted to update to iPhone X, you know what? I still might get it in a few months.
But 8 Plus is 200$ cheaper, and honest to God what are the distinct differences that warrant such price hike besides the screen and that amazing poop emoji thingy?

Is there wireless charger bundled in? Heck I'd take Apple care or maybe Music subscription too?
I guess I will be waiting for the official reviews and the hands on experience, and I really had an open mind about face ID but it did fail on stage? Did that ever happen with Touch ID?

To be extremely honest, I wish I could just live off my iPhone 6 by just replacing the batteries lost 15% cycle.
But my 64GB 6 is filled upto the brim, and I don't think I can get without losing stuff.

There this funny feeling in my head that tells me 8 and 8 Plus might actually outperform the X, also the fact that 7 Plus would be really enticing now for its price.

We don’t know what happen
Again there were two phones on the table, the first one didn’t work, the second worked flawlessly.

Apart from that, software is not finished and NO touch id is not infallible, just get sweaty fingers or slightly dirty button and there you go, 2 or three attempt are necessary

I'm guessing in full screen videos they can just hide the indicators and turn the status bar black

Ooops. Craig fumbled that one. I could see Face ID annoying people=having to hold it a certain way.

FaceID for federighi.

Works second time EVERY time :D :D :p

FaceID can't even work on a perfectly controlled demonstration hahahhaa

and the first live FaceID unlock failed....
hopefully it's gonna work in real life...

Whoops. Looks like Face ID isn't quite as seamless as Touch ID.

So much for face ID didn't work on 1st or 2nd try had to go old fashion route to get in

FaceID first live fail video will be everywhere soon. Will be next new big meme.

I haven't posted on this site for quite awhile, mostly due to the ignorance and immaturity of so many of the users here... and it's sad to see that it hasn't changed one bit.

For all of you who didn't get what actually happened; FaceID did NOT fail in the presentation. Just like TouchID, if you haven't used it for a few hours, then you have to unlock it with your Passcode. And that's exactly what happened in the demo (it even gave that message on the screen of the iPhone; that you must enter your passcode to use FaceID.) Always so much FUD here anytime a new Apple Product is released...

As for the Notch, yeah, I have mixed feelings about it, but I will actually wait until I can see it in person and have hands-on experience with it before making any judgments... you know, like a reasonable person.
