on a demo model yes but in real life they say it can't in the release model.Samsung facial recognition is not even close to Apple's. Photos can fool a Samsung.
Pre orders start 27 October. It is this Friday for pre orders of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.
FaceID can't even work on a perfectly controlled demonstration hahahhaa
Apple decides SUNGLASSES don't exist.

Phill Schiller is the most boring person for presenting a new product...
I really want an iPhone 8 said no one ever.
The X is the only way to go if you want an iPhone. It finally competes with Samsung S8 in design.
They're literally the most valuable company on Earth. So, yes, they apparently do.I thought I was done with Apple after they "courageously" ditched the headphone jack. But now that I can turn myself into a talking poop emoji, I may have to reconsider. Obviously Apple understands what the consumer really wants.![]()
Look closely at the image. Face ID didn't fail, it just needed the passcode to be entered for it to work.
Same happens with touch id if you restart your iPhone.
Will FaceID work in zero light? Bedside table, don't want a light shining to unlock phone if I want to check email or browse web.
Agreed. I would say this was the only letdown for me. Face ID maybe be more secure but it doesn't appear to be more convenient, especially using Apple Pay.FaceID had better be flawless. Didn't work too well during the demonstration. Te second time, he tried it, I wasn't that impressed with the speed. The idea I have to raise and authenticate is not as convenient as just touching as I raise to unlock. But I'm sure I'll get used to it. I wish he would have demonstrated how it would work on a flat table. THat's the other situation where I wouldn't want to have to raise the phone in order to access it.
They didn't dispel my one concern that ApplePay won't work without looking at the phone during the transaction. In many cases, the POST is away from my face.
EDIT: never mind -- the second demonstration with Apple Pay showed that it can be authenticated before extended to the POST. It's not as convenient as Apple Pay is with Touch ID now, but it might actually be more reliable. I do wonder how quickly the Face Authentication will time out though. That could get tricky.

So what's so special about this thing that you can't do with an iPhone 6s or 8? Cool, it has a 5.8" screen. But it still runs iOS which means you can't do many useful things with it and it's treated and used in pretty much the same way as an iPhone 6s. A 2 year old device.
"Unless you have an identical twin" you see, TouchID doesn't care about that since even identical twins have different finger prints. So there's that. Now we're waiting for a price.
edit aaaaaand it's $1000. $1000 for a ****ing phone. What a joke.
I dunno, but it's more expensive than the same weight in goldWhat is the weight of this iPhone?
No. If Touch ID fails it will tell you to enter the passcode to ENABLE Touch ID again.Look closely at the image. Face ID didn't fail, it just needed the passcode to be entered for it to work.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my friend. In the iPhone 8 announcement, some were disappointed and wanted Apple to shut up about it and get to the iPhone X..
When they did, the masses were underwhelmed. It's an underwhelming device unfortunately. But who am I? Vote with your wallet. I, personally am not impressed this time around and will avoid this release like the plague.
The GBP is slumping big time....
CDN - $1,529.00 for the 256GB version... just wow. Way too expensive for a phone. Even the 64GB is $1300.
I don't understand why Apple is using inferior AMOLED technology.
If you ever want to deactivate Face-ID or Touch-ID for that matter, I think you can press the power button 5 times in a row and it will push you back to having to type in a passcode.
