So after three generations of more of the same, Greedy Timmy decides to jack up the prices.

Nothing gives a middle finger like a $999 iPhone

Thanks, Timmy.

I disagree - it's not greed. There is a lot of high technology in there. They want to keep the company strong so a 40% profit margin ensures that they can continue to bring us the latest and greatest.

You might be happiest with a used phone, or the iPhone SE model if you want to "save money" - but I don't think you really do save money in the long run using old equipment.

Any cell phone is a bargain when you look at the tech in it. Get the best value for the dollar and your time spent by getting the latest and greatest as soon as you can.

What if you are an international spy but your head has been reconstructed to make you look like a Russian dignitary?

What if you are a serial killer who wears the faces of your victims and you can't take a call from your mother?

What if you have an accident and have to replace your face every morning with Lego?

What if you're Rorschach?

So many problems...

Do those new photo lighting features require any new hardware on the iPhone 8. I wonder if Apple could of made it available on iPhone 7s but decided to keep it to as an 8/X exclusive.

That top notch is not embraceed into the display. looks ugly

This one have looked better.

Had it looked like that I would have bought one for me and one for my gf and maybe even one for family members. The way it looks now is just beyond me and I can't believe Apple of all companies have released a product this unpolished... Looks like I won't be buying into this edge to edge iPhone game for a few years. Hopefully by then it will have been perfected

Look closely at the image. Face ID didn't fail, it just needed the passcode to be entered for it to work.

Same happens with touch id if you restart your iPhone.

Agreed, but it was still a bit slow once it did start working.

My biggest concern is that they are fragmenting their UI. iPhone X will stand alone in its gestures. Of all the iPhones in the lineup it will be the only one with swipe up to go home and swipe down from the right side of the notch to get to control center. Also, swipe up and pause to get to app cards.

I think iPhone 8/8+ will sell better then people expect and the iPhone X will be scarce due production delays. As a 6s Plus owner I might jump into an 8 Plus. The iPhone X is a maybe but not totally convinced.

Before anyone calls it out, yes I still have my Samsung S8+. I like to use both ecosystems.

Why is there an iphone 8 when this could have been that? This isn't that special. If it were actually edge-to-edge I'd understand the special/premium release. This is a fine a phone, but is it really that much different than a Samsung?

So what's so special about this thing that you can't do with an iPhone 6s or 8? Cool, it has a 5.8" screen. But it still runs iOS which means you can't do many useful things with it and it's treated and used in pretty much the same way as an iPhone 6s. A 2 year old device.

"Unless you have an identical twin" you see, TouchID doesn't care about that since even identical twins have different finger prints. So there's that. Now we're waiting for a price.

edit aaaaaand it's $1000. $1000 for a ****ing phone. What a joke.

Yes, it would be a lot of money for just a phone. But I think there are some additional functions.

So now if someone wants to unlock your phone while your sleeping all they have to do is hold it up to your face and it will open?

Why do people keep repeating this "it was a demo model" nonsense when even Samsung acknowledge it can be bypassed with a photo. Anybody can do this

As someone above said, you can use iris scan instead though it's slower, more fiddly and less reliable.

I'm talking note 8 not S8

They tested it and said it can't but not sure it matters.

People with S8 use facial recognition when it's easier around the house and use FP or iris when you want proper security

Least there's options

You kid but people aren't far from unironically posting stuff like this.
